Tears of Guilt

Rake Ignicius is the number one hero of the kingdom ‘Ardjestyn’. He is powerful and is also incredibly young, the youngest out of the other ten heroes. Despite the short length of age, he has been living with a pain in his chest, the feeling of loneliness and the need for his father’s attention. In the face of such emotions, a dark path awaits. Receiving an impossible ‘holy mission’ and committing the greatest sin known to mankind. Genocide, to the enemy race that had been battling his kingdom for several centuries. All that was left for him was his physical body, where not a shred of sanity and soul was left. His father’s abandonment, and the guilt rapidly eating his heart. But, the survivor of the very race he greatly took part in slaughtering suddenly appeared. Elicia Velborn, the last surviving ethelen and the crown princess of the Velborn kingdom. As such, Rake found a way. A way to remove the pain from his chest, a way to turn his mind away from the guilt. He protected her, and their journey for vengeance began.

Tyland Sylphon (part 1)

Ch. XI - Tyland Sylphon (Tyland)

-----

Where the hell is that stupid human!?

Before me and Kirnos decided to go to Velborn together with him, I promised to the rest of my friends that I will try to control the human's behavior.

Even though he is probably so much stronger than me… I still have to try, for the sake of the innocent people at Velborn.

That man is an assassin… who knows what kind of behavior he will be having once he is in an enemy territory.

He could be killing anyone he came across… he could be killing innocent men right now, just because he disliked them.

I have to find him… I need to make sure he isn't killing anyone.

That thought continuously lingers inside my mind as I look for him in this wide gigantic city. Velborn was by fact the largest city in the entire continent, and right behind it is the human kingdom's capital city, Ardjestyn.

Looking for a disguised human in the middle of this giant ass city is like finding a yellow grain of rice in a whole bucket full of white ones. It's simply impossible.

But, I still have to try. I've been looking for hours already. It is now sundown, but I don't care.

I have made a promise, and I had to--

JREBB!!!

"Khh!!!"

All of a sudden, I felt an incredible pain on my left arm.

I was just running on this tight alley, when all of a sudden, an arrow landed right on my left upper arm. I pulled the arrow out with rage, and turned around to look at who fired it.

A group of knights can be seen on the roof, with one of them holding a bow.

Ethelen knights, but their capes are black.

"Hunters Division!!"

I shouted towards them, and one specific knight stood more forward than the others.

"It has been a while, Tyland Sylphon. Can't believe you still have the balls to come back to Velborn."

Their leader said as he jumped down, and I took off my helmet.

So they knew who I was… of course they do. Otherwise, they wouldn't shoot arrows at random nobodies.

"You… are still going after my head, huh?"

"Well, what do you think? I have to say, it is very convenient for you to just casually walk into Velborn. Going around, showing your identity card to people… seriously, what were you thinking?"

"Does my father still pay you… even after all that!?"

"Well, we did chase you out of Masqueren and got you running into Calibra's territory. We were hoping that the dragon ate you, but then we heard that Calibra got killed by a human hero. Still very rad to think about… but that's not the point here.

You were presumed dead, and your father has already paid us. But when he found out that the guards at Velborn saw you flaunting your identity card… Well…

He became mad at us. At least that's what it looks like.

We were about to go and hunt you down, but what do you know! Our meal came to us conveniently…"

"How embarrassing… Exactly how long are you going to become my dad's dogs?"

"As long as possible, probably. He did pay us a good amount."

Tch. In the end, James and the other human assassins weren't the only guys hired to kill me…

The knights in front of me began to jump down from the roof, and they were all unsheathing their weapons. I can see the space around us getting warped as they cloaked us within a subspace where neither light nor sound can get through.

The magic has been casted. To the outside world, we are invisible. The sounds happening inside the subspace cannot leak, neither can our magical pressures.

But, if the pressure is big enough…

"Tch!! Looks like there is no other way… then I'll die with your blood all over me!!"

I shouted as I unsheathed my sword. I then released a very powerful pressure, with the hopes of it actually breaking out from the subspace.

"Fuahahah!! You really think that puny pressure can break through the barrier? Don't forget, you are merely a Tier Three Magic Swordsman!! You need two more levels in order to break it!!"

That guy isn't wrong. This barrier is a tier four barrier, conjured by either a tier four creation mage or through a rune. Either way is a possibility, since I don't know how strong these guys actually are.

If it's through a rune… then maybe I have some chance. But if it is indeed a tier four barrier mage… then I'm as good as dead.

What should I do…?

"Hehh~… a tier four barrier magic, huh?"

Suddenly, a voice can be heard from the roof right above me. I turned my gaze upwards, and found his blonde hair being swayed by the wind.

His red eyes staring sharply downwards towards me and the hunter knights, and a slight curl can be seen on his mouth.

He… I couldn't detect his presence at all!!

"Who the hell is… is that a human!?"

The hunters division leader said after he saw James just sitting on the roof, watching us. Meanwhile, the guy on the roof was simply waving his hand to me.

"Hey, there. I thought I saw something interesting happening from afar, didn't expect it to be you. So I stayed watching silently."

"J-James!?"

I must've looked quite shocked, because James looked quite happy and calm up there. On the other side, the hunter leader became more and more enraged.

"So you brought a human here… How ridiculous."

He said as his pressure became more and more powerful by the millisecond. His eyes turned blood red as rage can be detected leaking effortlessly from his presence.

"To be related to a human… How disgusting. I can now see why your father wanted you dead… you disgusting ex-ethelen."

The leader is getting angrier by the second, which worries me quite a bit. This guy is definitely a tier five combatant, which means he is incredibly dangerous to me who is a tier three.

"Ooo, he is strong."

That voice came from right behind me, where James had suddenly arrived. I didn't even hear him jumping down, and I didn't even sense him getting so close to me.

"J-James…"

"Relax, I'll help you. Just this once though, since I also needed your help."

I immediately became surprised by his words. Here I thought he is an enemy, that he must never be trusted. And yet, here he is offering his help to me.

I don't know how strong he is, but if he is still this confident against seven strong knights of Velborn's hunters division…

All I can do is believe.

"I… Thank you."

"You're welcome. Now then, can I kill them or not?"

"You are allowed to kill them… anyone else, please ask for my permission first."

"Well… not like I needed your permission to begin with, right?"

"Y-You…"

Seeing me chatting so casually with the human, the hunter leader couldn't take it anymore. The veins in his head were already popping so hard, and he dashed forward without hesitation. Behind him, his knights also followed, all with their weapons enchanted and ready to kill.

But to their surprise, the human next to me is not weak.

"Then, I will make it quick."

James lifted his hand, and poured in a ton of his mana.

T-This is-!!!

VWUUUNGGG!!!!!!!!

A bright yellow light was conjured from thin air, and gradually scattered around him before turning into swords. Swords of light appeared from thin air, and they floated in the air beautifully around James while pointing towards the knights.

The sheer amount of mana being used alone already tells me how dangerous these swords are, but I know that's not all there is to these swords.

James then flicked his hand forward, and all the floating blades began flying towards the knights in front of us.

The speed of these weapons are fast, but to a tier five combatant like their leader, it was nothing.

Seeing the weapons being conjured out of thin air, the hunter leader expected them to be weak and destroyable. In slow motion, he swung his enchanted sword towards the incoming sword that was flying to his face.

TINGG!!!!

The leader tried smacking the flying light sword away, but instead of the sword shattering or bouncing away, his own sword was flung backwards.

His sword… bounced off?

The blade is… still intact?

The hunter leader turned to shock. He expected the conjured blade to shatter upon contact, but what happened instead was his own sword to bounce off the conjured blade. Not just that, the trajectory of the conjured blade only changed slightly.

His sword wasn't even strong enough to push the flying blade away…

Then, he can only dodge.

The hunter leader tilted his head to the side at his highest speed possible, and the sword is now passing next to his ears.

The hunter became glad that he was able to move his head in time. He turned his eyes back forward to dodge even more blades.

But what he didn't know, was that the conjured blades had an extra ability.

It can stop midair.

FYUNG!!

And it can turn and do anything at high speed.

ZRING!!!!

The conjured sword that was passing through his ears, stopped mid air and immediately turned sideways at high speed. The blade easily sliced through the hunter leader's brain very quickly, completely cutting his head in half horizontally.

SPRRT!!!!

As blood fell to the dry soil ground, the conjured blade continued to fly towards its next target while spinning.

SRESHH!!

"Gaaahkk!!!!"

"Aaaahhkk!!!"

James whipped his wrist, and all the blades then stopped mid-air. The frozen blades then began to disappear into bright yellow particles as the magic was retracted from them.

So this is… the power of a human assassin.

Definitely… at a level I cannot comprehend as a tier three.
