Chapter Eighteen - Due Date

Two Weeks Later

Roxy sat in the bedroom staring at the test she had bought on her weekly shopping trip.

'Positive! There's no way, surely!' She thought to herself, trying not to cry from excitement. She took another stick from the box and headed into the bathroom, praying for the same result.

Struggling to keep her excitement, she began dancing around the kitchen while waiting for the results to come through.

"If this is positive, our old life is behind us!" She whispered to herself. Hearing the front door unlock and slowly open, creaking gently, her Hunter instincts tried to rise. Telling her to grab a knife, she ignored the thoughts and began to move closer to the test. Scared of what the final result will be, holding one hand over her eyes as she approached, she slowly lowered it and read the conclusive impact - Positive. She let out a squeal of excitement and sprinted to the front door, knocking Tyler to the ground, leaving them both lying next to one another, giggling.

"What has gotten into you?" He jokingly asked Roxy, who was kicking out and squealing like a child.

"So, I did a test! A real test! At least I hope it was a real test? What if--" Roxy began to spill out on a tangent, ultimately going off course of what she was trying to say initially.

"Rox!" Tyler said, laughing at her childish nature. This was the first time he had seen her so genuinely happy in a long time. "Rox, what's going on?"

"Oh right yeah!" She stood up and presented the test like a waiter at a restaurant. Tyler took a moment to read the result, realising what had just been shown.

"Oh my god! No! No way!" He exclaimed, his entire body filling with joy! Before he could get another word in, Roxy pounced on him, showing him with kisses before screaming from the top of her lungs, "I'M PREGNANT!" Leaving them both laughing hard.

"You're pregnant?" Tyler asked joyfully.

"Yes!!! I'm a hundred and ten per cent sure! I'll show you the tests!" Roxy sprang up and ran to the kitchen, picking up both tests, and ran back to Tyler, lying on the ground again. She handed him the tests gleefully and watched as he stared at the positive tests.

"Oh. My. God. YOU'RE PREGNANT!" He called it the very tip of his lungs!

Tyler took Roxy by the hand and stood them both up. He struggled to contain the excitement within, letting out squeals now and again.

Roxy leapt onto Tyler, wrapping her legs around him tightly, bestowing a gentle kiss on his lips.

"I have one question, though, and I don't mean to put a damper on the whole situation, but if you're pregnant, what does that mean for your time as a Hunter? Or the baby's?" Tyler asked, his voice began to fill with dread.

"I don't quite know. I assume the baby will be brought up like I was, trained to kill." Her voice grew softer and softer with every word. "But, let's not think about that and just be happy. How about some baby names to lighten the mood?"

"You know, I've always loved the name Lily for a girl," Tyler commented.

"Lily! Oh! I love it!" Roxy cheerfully cried, "And for a boy, I was thinking something like Noah?'

Tyler was about to agree on such a beautiful name, but before he could, there was a subtle knock on the door.

He approached cautiously and looked through the peephole. It took Tyler a few seconds to realise who was standing there: Thomas! Tyler threw the door open and welcomed him inside.

"Hey! How did you know that we lived here?" Roxy asked.

"I mean, I am Prometheus," Thomas remarked, making Tyler laugh but causing confusion for Roxy.

"I've got a job if you're interested?" Thomas continued, "Files all here. If you are, come find me at school tomorrow. Don't worry about the others. They'll love seeing me with you two." Without another word, Thomas let himself out.

Roxy opened the file, finding a local drug dealer dishing out a new street drug called 'Crimson', and the plan was to take him out.

Tyler looked at Roxy, confused at this side of Thomas.

"I'd love to join, but something like that will end badly for the baby."

She looked at Tyler and passed him the file, "Do you want to take this job?"

"I'll find out as much as I can tomorrow and decide. I don't think I'll ever get over Thomas being the Vigilante, let alone talk about killing someone." Tyler's face shifted into worry about his friend. He closed the file and threw it onto the sofa. He looked at Roxy's belly, where a bump would soon be forming. "This is gonna be fun to explain to the class."

She chuckled, "We're adults now, Tyler. We're allowed to live our lives alongside classes." With that, she kissed Tyler once more and walked to the kitchen.
