Classes and Professors

After Arthur was revealed to be a part of the Disciplinary Committee, or DC for short, there was not a single student who wasn't talking about him.

Who wouldn't when a first year is promoted to a DC member before a single class could be conducted.

"So what's the deal behind your brother joining the DC?" Nathan asked.

"Well the DC is comprised of the strongest members, so he was offered a choice to join it and...gain the benefits that come along with it," I reply.

"What about you, you're pretty strong from what you told me,"

"Eh, I rejected," I say non chalantly.

"You what?!?!" He seems surprised, well its not everyday one gets the choice to join the DC.

"I rejected the position, it comes with too much popularity, and I'd like to avoid anything like that." I say.

"But still, to reject such a position of power..." He trailed off.

"What can I say, I'm not exactly like other people," I say, smiling at him.

I notice the professor enter the class.

He's a conjurer, judging from the wand holstered on his waist.

I can't sense his core level.

Either he's got a pretty good control over his core or he's in a higher level.

He thumps the books he was holding, effectively silencing the class.

"Now that I have everyone's attention, allow me to welcome everyone to fundamentals of mana theory. I am Professor Avius."

Next we had Practical Mana Manipulation.

The room, if it can even be called a room as it was more of a coliseum, with a fighting area in the middle, surrounded by a protective barrier and rows of seats.

"Oh boy, I'm looking forward to this class!" Nathan exclaimed.

"Yeah, this might be more interesting," I say.

Following Nathan we settled down in a random seat.

'May I sit here?" I hear someone ask.

Turning to my right I see Kathyln standing beside me.

I shrug, "Sure why not,"

To my left Nathan has a face full of confusion.

"I knew my class would be popular but wow! We have quite the crowd of students!" The professor said, though he looked more like some of the low class adventurers I encountered on my journey.

"As you all know, this class is Practical Mana Manipulation, or PMM for short. Which means we will be doing things very practically, that is through example." He continues.

"What better way to learn through hands on experience right?" He asks rhetorically.

Throughout his speech I notice him giving a dirty look to Arthur, who was seated a bit away from us.

What's his deal?

"And its especially an honor to be teaching our own Disciplinary Committee," He says.

Huh? Is he targeting us or something?

"But I can't be the only one curious as to what sort of ability the members of the newly formed DC have right? After all they will be the ones responsible for protecting the students of this academy."

Can you be any less subtle with your taunt?

Who would ever fall for that?

"I volunteer!" Feyrith says.

...

I'm changing my nickname for you to 'Idiotic blond one'

"My name is Feyrith Ivysaar III. I am more than willing, on behalf of the Disciplinary Committee, whose members have been chosen personally by director Goodsky, to demonstrate our abilties," His voice booms.

Idiot, can't you see he's a light yellow core mage?

Shaking my head I let out a sigh of exasperation.

"That's more like it! Feyrith right? Come down to the stage!" The professor answered.

Now that I think about it he never even gave us his name, isn't he a bit too eager?

I have a bad feeling about this.

Feyrith bows as he gets to the stage, "It's an honor to receive your tutelage. And by the fact that I cannot sense your mana core level, I assume that it must be quite a bit higher than mine,"

"While I am an augmenter, I'll only use long range attacks in this demonstration," He replied, "That way, if I were to lose, I'll at least have an excuse,"

Saying that he activates the barrier.

"My pleasure," Feyrith replies as he prepares to cast his spell.

"Water Serpent!"

Water circles around him before it took the shape of a giant serpent.

"Flood Domain!"

Feyrith casts another spell in succession, as water pools in the arena and the serpent dives in.

"Fireball," The professor casted.

One of the weakest fire spells, yet his wasn't.

The blue ball of fire was way deadlier than the generic orange one.

As the fireball shot towards Feyrith he said, "You'll have to do better than that professor!"

Fool.

He conjured a thick wall of water to protect him, but it still didn't stop the ball of fire, which hit his leg and left a hole in his uniform along with a burn.

"Do you surrender?" He asks Feyrith, who had stumbled and fallen down.

"Y-Yes...I-concede..." Feyrith replies, his head hung low, no doubt ashamed of himself.

All around us students murmured, doubting the DC's capability to protect them.

"Let this be a lesson to all of you. I had assumed that with his elemental advantage, Mr. Ivysaar would be able to protect himself against my spell. Clearly I had misjudged."

Do you have to rub it in?

"Would anyone else like to volunteer?" He asks, looking specifically at Kathyln.

She was about to raise her hand to volunteer but I beat her to it.

"I volunteer,"

"Ah, but I was hoping someone from the Disciplinary Committee would-"

"I think you will find me strong enough." I cut him off.

"Very well,"

"Hey, what are you doing?" Nathan asked.

"Volunteering for a demonstration," I deadpanned at him.

"I know that! But are you sure?" He asks, concerned.

"I'll be fine, relax." I say.

I go down to the stage.

"Fayden Leywin, Solid yellow stage at age 12, very impressive, conjurer with....dual elemancy in water and earth?" He says, surprised.

"Now thats rare," He says.

As we get into position he asks, "Will you not be using a wand?"

"No, using a wand hampers my fighting style," I reply.

He nods, "Let us begin!"

Only after those words were spoken did I realize that if I beat him, I would become as popular as Arthur.

Shit!
