Moment killer

She had only agreed to have lunch with him because they were in the company's kitchen. Although they had been quiet, they stole glances at each other when the other was not looking.

The prince didn't have a particular behavior. Most of the time he was Mr BossyPants; commanding, dictatorial and demanding. Sometimes he was obsequious and flattering. And then another time, you could see him with a grave expression on his face. It just didn't make sense. How could one possibly have different shades of character?

She was going to have to explore his different characters to know which one would work for her lucky day. Flashbacks of the morning with him in the car fleeted past her mind. If she would be honest with herself, she had gone down on him back in the car to salvage her thirst for him. She wanted him. She wanted it.

And doing it in the car with the driver and his head orderly within earshot only made it more thrilling.

But right after they were done, he didn't speak with her. Her thighs were clammy, and she had practically raced all the way to her office to clean herself up.

Now they were back from cloud nine to square one. Her emotions were getting in the way of her mission, clouding her vision and endangering her life.

She shuddered in her seat. The prince was yet to know her as more than just his personal assistant. This thing they had between was an entanglement. A situationship.

She wasn't supposed to stretch the sex part of the mission. She was asked to get into bed with him and get his semen from him.

Initially, the thought of going down on him had been repugnant and repulsive.

Her work tablet chimed, and she ditched her non-work related thoughts to focus on the email. It was a memo from a fast rising fashion brand that wanted a joint collaboration with Price And Prize on the latter's next fashion show.

Harold's Holdings was not yet out of the picture completely. She had to show the prince the latest development.

She rose from her chair, hoping to give him the news so he could give her feedback to relay back to the prospective business partners. He wasn't in his seat, but his tuxedo was draped over the headrest of his swivel chair. She thought about leaving to come back later but then, she would probably forget which was going to be very disastrous.

She heard the sound of something crashing. Her heart jumped and she held her chest. Another crashing and a loud yell. He was doing it again. His tantrums. A small voice whispered to her to leave, but there was another voice asking her to go in to check what was happening there.

She held her tablet to her chest and walked gingerly to the door of the executive suit. She pushed it open and it gave way. There he stood. In the middle of the chaos, shirtless and sweaty.

"What?" He growled angrily.

The hair on his arms stood on end. She had never noticed just how much hair he had on his body until now.

There was a bottle of alcohol lying on the ground. Esmeralda couldn't tell if he had drunk the contents or not because it was far from her. He bent and picked the bottle, ready to smash it. The contents had been drunk halfway, for only half of it was remaining.

"Kain."

Her voice tore through the chaos in his head and mind. She walked up to him. This was no Kain in front of her. This was the animal her mother had cursed. The beast her mother had tied down with her magic.

He growled, moving backwards as if afraid of her. The beast was not going to harm her, but it was going to do something to scare her away.

"Leave." He warned.

"No."

Kain knocked his knuckles together. He bent his back and growled. The walls were soundproof, but she still feared someone might hear. His nostrils flared. It was real. Everything about it was real.

"You can't shapeshift." She told him. It cut through his heart. The truth. He punched his fist in the wall. Esmeralda shut his eyes when he did it again. Grunting, growling and punching the wall with his fists. There was only one thing she could do. She flung the tablet carelessly on one of the plush sofas and lunged herself at him, hugging him from behind.

Her hands around him were refraining him from moving his hands because if he did, he was going to push her in the process.

Silence. Peace replaced chaos. Kain breathed hard. Her wild red hair tumbled down on his shoulders. This woman was his…his subconscious whispered. The beast was retreating. His shirtless back was clammy with sweat but she didn't mind. She didn't let go.

They stayed like that for a long time. Her hands wrapped around him on his hands which were plastered to his sides by her arms.

This Kain was different. This one was the broken and frustrated son of the Zander's. She unclenched her palms and spread it across his stomach. Her jaw was on his neck. She didn't want to leave. This was stupid, but she wanted to bask in this stupid moment.

The scorching heat of his back against her clothed front reminded her of the cold and hot spring of the West Wing's lake.

"Esmeralda." He called out in a whisper.

"Kain." Her voice on his hot skin was like a cool breeze.

He was letting his heart lead the way now, whether or not she was his mate. It didn't matter now. His wolf seemed satisfied.

"I'm sorry, am I interrupting anything? I didn't know you two-"

They both disengaged and turned to look at the intruder. It was Ravina. Esmeralda felt guilty. Ravina had seen them in their lovers' pose and she was going to know at once that Esmeralda was no longer on course. She would know that Esmeralda was derailing from the initial plan.

Ravina had her eyes plastered on the prince's naked chest. Even she was held bound by the strong and sculpted muscled artwork of his arms and taut abdomen. She cleared her throat when the prince caught her ogling him.

"Was I interrupting something?" She asked, looking at Esmeralda closely.

"No."

"Yes."

Esmeralda and Kain both answered simultaneously. Esmeralda gave prince Kain a hard look. Was he seriously going to switch to his cocky side?

"And if you don't mind, we will like to continue."

Esmeralda clenched her fists. How did he switch from vulnerable to cocky?

"I'm sorry, your highness. But Harold is here."

Kain gritted his teeth. Ravina left, shutting the door behind her quietly. As soon as she was out of earshot, Kain turned to Esmeralda.

They both stared at each other for so long a time. She had calmed him down. Wasn't that enough proof that she was his woman? He could be wrong. He had to be wrong. His personal assistant couldn't be his destined mate.

"Why did you help me?" He asked.

Esmeralda thought for a moment that he was going to say something really hurtful to her.

"Are you angry about it?" She asked.

He came forward and held her waist.

"Who are you?" He asked.

Esmeralda cleared her throat.

"I got a memo earlier. You might want to take a look at it after."

Just like that, she ruined their moment. She had killed the conversation. She was a moment killer.
