Talented necromancer

In the world of Harcanos, there is a man who just recieved his class. One forbidden by those upstairs; a Necromancer. Beyern, no last name, will now use this class and his talent, long left buried, to catch up, and even surpass, those with a head-start, squeezing every drop of talent he can. ---- Talented necromancer is the story of Beyern, now please note, I did not say; ‘Beyern and friends’. This is about ‘Beyern’, and him alone, no matter if he has friends or slaves. The journey of Beyern is not over the flick of a switch, it’s not that one day he’s the loser on everyone’s mind, the next he’s the most powerful person to ever live. Basically; ‘This is progression fantasy, but with only a small pinch of litrpg’ -Due to irl time constraints, this novel is currently paused.

Planned relaxation

Beyern yawned as he felt the cart he was sitting in stir, the raptor that was drawing it stirring with the pull of it's reigns.

Said owner was the one who guarenteed Beyern's character, by the shopkeep's hands of course.

He had a bag to his side as he layed down, as tried to get some shut-eye. He had gone through a few shops yesterday, buying rations, a rope, and two back-up daggers for whatever reason he might need them, you never know.

In that bag was also all the other things he had kept, another set of clothes, and 10 extra bronze that he had burried away somewhere incase a thief pickpocketed him.

He quietly resting, though in all honestly, he kept his left slightly open, just to make sure his bag wasn't stolen.

About three minutes later, he decided to take one last look for old time's sake, and stood up. Walking to the back of the covered wagon, he looked on as Hayseed village, the place he had lived for most of his life, fall under the horizon 'Quite meloncholic, but... Does it really matter?'

He turned back, and sat in his original spot, slightly annoyed that this caravan didn't allow the useage of magic unless necessary, something about mana-sensing creatures with often changing territory, and saving on effort by just banning the use of magic.

Though, as long as he didn't get a little roudy, cause chaos, or use mana, he was basically free to do whatever he wanted.

He's already sifted through the new knowledge given by necromancy's new level, though not to a sufficient level, so that's what he would do right now. Though he'd rather just increase his mastery even more.

===

In the last day he had not just been sitting on his ass and doing nothing, giving an extra star to both {Mana-manipulation} and {Spell-craft}, while two were allocated to {Mana-shaping}.

And since his mana rings were senseable by those annoying monsters, he couldn't have them in use, or make more of them as {Mana-manipulation} training.

But this problem did bring him knowledge of a new mastery he would attain at a later date; 'Mana-concealment'.

There were two mages who were allowed to use magic however much they felt like, because they had {Mana-concealment} at rank 1, which was apperantly a feat due to {Mana-concealment}'s lack of prestige and common use.

Like, litterally, why did they have {Mana-concealment}? It's only useful when facing mana-sensing foes, any other time it's just a little certificate on your wall, there just to fill up your portfolio.

Well, it's because the two of them were pretty much a staple for anyone who wanted to take this route. Why did they take that type of posistion? Well, this route was the premier route between two major cities; Becallu and Fret'ill.

After some in depth questioning, just asking, they just said how to get it and how to train it. Apperantly it was just open to anyone within the mages guild, and it wasn't even that hard to find information about it outside the guild, just not often spoken about due to it's lack of utility.

So; problem, you can't train {Mana-concealment} without using mana to, you know, train with concealing mana from sensors.

Now why was Beyern so invested in the idea; 1) Free mastery 2) So that something like this never happens ever again 3) A good amount of events have mana-sensing artifacts in use, to keep it all safe and family friendly. Definitely don't want a kid to see a magic missile rip through the lord's head.

"So, how's your day been?" The man, Beyern's guarantor, who was steering the cairrage asked.

Beyern's eyes flickered open, while he said "It's been good, though it's quite hot these days, I recently got to novice."

"That's why you're leaving Hayseed?"

"Yep," Beyern said, pretty relaxed while doing so "Going to register at the guild branch there."

"Must be quite hard," The merchant said "leaving all your friends and family behind."

"Nope, I'm an orphan." Beyern said, afterwhich planning to return to his thoughts.

"Oh, no offense."

"None taken, they died while I was still too young to remember them, they're basically strangers," He yawned, just to indecate that this didn't really matter without explicitly saying so "I think they were... Mercs? Some kind of warrior at least."

Done with said conversation, he half-heartedly dropped into his mind, keeping watch on the outside world in the meanwhile.

-----

Rayt gnashed his teeth, he had been sensitive to the weather, mostly towards summer, it being far too hot for him.

He had learned glacielomancy, magic outside of his mage caste, just to get some cooling for the hotter months of the year.

Now, he had to stop using said staple spell, just because of some monsters that probably weren't even close-by.

He gnashed his teeth even more.

'It'll be fine to just use a bit of glacielomancy, it's not like there are any of those bird-brains are close-by.' With his 'Astute' observation, he concluded that the use of glacielomancy was not outlawed, for him, and quickly aspected some mana that was taken out of his circuit, and used it to create his favorate cooling spell.

He released a sigh of relief, as the chill uncharacteristic of the season washed over him, hearing no signs of the Verlkey's he was warned about 'Knew i-'

A loud squal called out from above, quickly connecting the dots, jumped out of his sitting posistion, and looked out of the cairrage towards the sound, finding a bird in the sky, though looking normal sized from so far away, Rayt knew better than to think that.

Especially since it seemed to be rapidly growing in size 'What the hel-' He tried to think, but being interupted by a human-sized bird picking him up in the middle of a dive, quite reasonable if you think about it.

Many were shocked by the graphic scene that occured in the sky, which I will not describe just to keep this novel free from a r-18 rating, while others already frowned while getting ready for a siege, others felt their blood pressure mysteriously rise.

Though another category of people, one that included Beyern, was confused at the commotion.

Hearing the screech, he wasn't certain that this was bad news, but better to be safe that sorry, so he fluidly stood up while picking up his bag, moments after drawing his dagger.

He jumped out of the cart at the back, looking around all the while, he beheld a bird-like monster inhabiting the sky, many more comming from where the sun rose this morning.

Beyern couldn't help but frown, though he didn't recognize the birds personally, never going that far in this direction, while using mana, remember that he had never used mana before he got his class?

But with some common conjecture, he came to the conclusion that these were the mana-sensers "And there goes my calm and refresing break, you won't really be missed that much." He said to himself.

'Since they sense mana that's in use, they will probably be easy to trick with some too.' He quickly took out a bit of mana, around ten seconds worth, formed it into a ball with a bit of speed, noting that a few of those flying mana detectors were heading straight for him.

He shot the ball of mana out of himself, keeping it about 2-3 meters away from his person. In respone the Verlkey's eyes and route shifted imperceptibly.

There was just one question the lingered in his mind, one that lingered for a moment 'Should I fight for more mastery?'

He quickly noted the his own speed, then the speed of the others, then the speed of the birds, even if he ran, he'd be one of the first to be picked up, better to have initiative if he would be required to fight for his life anyways.

Though, sadly, he didn't know how to give his mana a punch, so he had to resort to more traditional methods, such as stabbing, and using the weaknesses hidden within strengths, aka; The way his anscestors once fought monsters while lacking the system's help.

Of course he would add on the bonus of having masteries, but he was probably weaker than most mages from that time.

He started to create another 10 second ball while running towards the direction of the flock.

Within 4 seconds, one of the front of the pack swung down, anticipating the second meal of this buffet. Beyern sensed this with his eyeholes, and quickly shot out the accumulated mana, and forced it to mix with the original mana ball.

He quickly turned around, and started to run away while looking behind his back, a plan in mind.

A calm smile appeared as he saw the bird as it got close enough to note whether the trick had worked, and it was right on the mark, this thing trusted it's mana-sense more than it's eyes, though he wasn't sure it had bad eye-sight or not.

If they did though, this'd be so much fun.

He tightened his grip on the dagger in his hands, took a deep breath, and jumped to the side, making the mana ball come closer to make it look like it was still going it the same direction as moments before.

And with impeccable timing, his dagger stabbed into the bird's right thigh as it tried to pick up it's illusionary meal.

Beyern was dragged along as it fell to the ground, unable to properly control it's wings due to the panic induced by having knife in it's leg. But this was easily overcome by letting go of the dagger.

He rushed after the rolling bird, taking his ball of mana with him, taking a few moments to reach it's resting place, where he quickly jumped towards it's front end, and gave it a strike with the back of a closed fist, just to give it a concussion for some extra time, he needed it for a little scheme.

He scrounged out one of the extra daggers he had bought, quickly fufilling their purpose, as he stabbed it inside of the bird while taking the mana ball into his hand.

Then, through the dagger, he pushed the mana ball and some extra mana into the bird, though there was more resistence than within the air, it wasn't impossible to play around.

He quickly used the extra mana to make an anchor, transformed it into a linkage, and then turned both the link and the ball into a spell. Taking a total of... About 7 seconds, all the practice he had done in the last day really upping his proficiency in this particular side of magic.

He took out the dagger, and appropriated the dagger he had donated to it's leg earlier for a greater goal in the middle of standing up.

He rushed out of the altercation, and felt through the connection he still held to the ball, the bird stired for a moment, and then stood up.

It seemed to fly up, and then it shook, as if something else had attacked it, Beyern's experiment was a wonderous success!

It'd be fun to watch an animation of this, so if I ever have time, I'll try to make one that isn't garbage. And, give me my power stones!
