As both of their swords clashed against each other, their determinations evident on their faces.
But, the dark-skinned boy was looking at something else, staring directly past the young heir of the Hachiman clan like he was nothing but air.
[Ding! Talent copying has initiated... 0%]
'So as long as an extension of my body touches them it will still be regarded as physical contact.' Jason thought as he stared at the new message.
Initially he planned to use every small chance he had to touch Zane and hope that it the percent would rise until it met the requirements.
Only now he would use his sword instead of his body.
"You shouldn't get distracted when facing someone who isn't your match." Zane said in annoyance.
He dropped his sword before spinning around and landing a strong kick in Jason's ankle.
Before Jason could react he picked his fallen sword and moved backwards.
'That actually stung.' Jason thought as he felt his ankle.
Jason was much stronger than Zane, however, his handling with the weapon in his hand was poor making even someone whom originally wasn't his match able to beat him.
Zane cracked his neck as he lunged again.
'I have to fully focus or I'll lose.' Jason thought as he struggled to keep up.
Zane charged forward, his hand going for a swipe. Jason raised his sword, blocking the attack awkwardly.
"Are you sure you're part of the clan, you act like you haven't used a sword in your whole life." Zane mocked as he performed a leg sweep, knocking Jason off-balance.
Jason due to his origin had never picked a sword up in his life as he wouldn't even be allowed to, but he still preferred a katana due to the difference between the sword and a katana.
A sword was made to clash against another sword, that was why they were used by knights, people who had pride to uphold and did not attack someone who was not armed.
A katana on the other hand was made to stay in the hand's of an assassin, someone whom would not hesitate to strike down his opponent despite the fact that they were handicapped or even stronger than him.
The deciding blow for someone who used the katana was which one was faster.
"You little brat." Jason growled.
"Little?" Zane looked at him with a puzzled expression. "I'm eleven and you're ten. I'm supposed to be calling you kid, kid."
"How do you know that?" Jason couldn't help but ask, for some reason he began to feel that Zane wasn't letting everything out.
"My mother told me that bedtime story when I was five years old and she also described the date, only an idiot would be so dumb that they can't even do math." Zane said charging forward.
Jason looked at the percentage.
[10%]
He would need to make contact with Zane for a whole second for it to rise by a percent.
Jason smirked leaving Zane confused, he was losing so why would he smile.
"First form: Kamikaze!" Jason shouted as he charged towards Zane with reckless abandon.
He stopped caring about his moves, leaving many openings but his attacks were too unpredictable...
He moved without care for his form or anything, this led to Zane forcefully using his strength to try holding back Jason, but his opponent was a stronger than him.
The tables had turned, Zane was constantly on the offensive because his opponent acted like someone trained in the wilderness rather than a fighter who learned from a master.
[50%]
Jason grinned...
"Crazy." Zane muttered as he held out his left hand, a small condensed blast forming in it. "You act like a monkey you know that."
"Are you racist?" Jason muttered.
But his eyes focused on what stuck in Zane's left hand.
"Mana... You're using magic! Isn't this supposed to be a sword fight between family?" Jason said.
He didn't want to know what would happen if he was hit by that, he still had some questions about his vulnerability to magic.
"You said I'm crazy? Well, it runs in the family!" He declared as he dashed to the side, trying to dodge the spell in his hand.
"You're not faster than lightning magic!" Zane declared as the condensed orb of mana left his hand.
It materialized into something akin to what one would describe lightning as; pure light.
In a flash, it hit Jason, however to everyone who was present's shock Jason was still alive and kicking, something Jason himself didn't think would be the result.
Dumbfounded, he checked where the lightning struck, it struck his gut leaving a whole in his chest. Jason pulled his shirt up, also seeing something akin to burn marks.
It had stung quite a lot, but it wasn't something that would bring him immense pain.
[Due to host's mana stage being at stage 000, mana is repelled from his surrounding and lightning magic was significantly weakened]
As soon as the notification popped up Jason smiled, he understood that the tables had turned to his favors.
Using the confusion that occurred after Zane's attack failed he moved towards Zane at an incredible speed before subtly grabbing him.
"What are you doing! Let go of me!" Zane yelled as he was restrained.
Due to the fact that Zane couldn't even use mana due to Jason's low affinity for it and Jason's strength outclassed his he was easily held down.
[60%]
[60%... Failure! Host has no affinity for magic...]
Jason's face contorted once he saw the screen.
'I've seen this two times already... Yet, it always feel like the system is mocking me.' He sighed in his heart, praying that he would get used to this screen.
[Host can choose a talent to copy: Null eyes, Unwavering Will, Spirit Steps.]
Due to the fact that he was a magic cripple he was unable to use lightning magic, a skill that almost turned him into dirty fireworks.
'I choose Null eyes.' Jason thought as he let go of Zane subconsciously.
The Null eyes were one of the very few special eyes in the technique, depending on the clan that possessed them their abilities varied.
The Null eyes allowed one to trap them in the null; a place where nothing exists, it also had many other skills in its name but this was the most important and useful.
However they all required a large amount of mana to use, and a large amount of mana to sustain them while in use.
But since the system showed it there he was quite confident that there was a way he would be able to use it.
[Copying... Copied]
The tab made Jason smile subconsciously, something that was creepy to his onlookers.
Zane couldn't help but shudder as he looked at the face of the person that was so focused a while ago, now his gaze was more distant than his parents.
Zane looked at the person in front of him and helped back an urge to wake him up, he looked like he had just reached the peak of his life and was recounting all the experiences he had felt.
"I thought that I would undergo a change, I-" Suddenly he was hit with a mind-splitting headache as he felt something leave him.
"Oh damn me and my big mouth!" Jason cursed as he fell onto the floor, rolling as he held his head in pain.
His eyes became void, null to be exact, losing their original color of black and becoming more of a lifeless gaze.
But the owner of the body moved like he was very much alive, trying to get rid of the pain that gnawed at him.
Suddenly, in a burst his eyes suddenly regained color, but now his eyes were deep blue, seemingly carrying something different.
The pain vanished, as if it was never there in the first place, leaving not even a trace to prove that he was feeling pain before.
He looked up, facing the heir of the clan. His eyes now bearing the same color with the boy – blue.
"As I thought." Jason said out loud, Zane hearing him clearly. "You really are a talent."
