Spiraling Thunder

"Alright.." Rai uttered, he'd finally found the perfect training grounds where he could train uninterrupted, it was in a forest just south to the entrance of the Ronowa Empire. Usually no one was granted permit to exit or enter the kingdom by this time of the night, however Rai didn't exactly attempt to leave the kingdom in the most proper way.

"Status." He said.

A blue holographic panel appeared on command, he wanted to evaluate his abilities and skills to determine the course of his training.

Rai took a look at his current abilities to determine which one he'd be able to figure out before the exams the next day.

"Stealth is something I've been dealing with since birth, I have already attained mastery in this skill so practicing any further is pointless, What's Neuro Echo?" Rai flustered with confusion questioned.

"Assassin mode?" Although Rai had previously made use of this skill in his previous life it still laid dormant within him, the Azashi modo or more commonly spoken as the assassin mode technique; was not a technique the user activates at will.

The factors that allowed the use of such skill were demanding and no one in their right senses would comply with those factors just to acquire temporary strength.

"Judging by the name of the technique itself it's obvious it's an ability meant for killing, therefore it's no longer an option. I'm guessing there's a rule in this exam that prevents the killing of participants." He sighed.

He had little options in his stats and 99% of it proved to be inadequate, he only had one option left.

"Raisen?" He muttered.

In literal meaning, it translates to spiraling thunder. It is an electrokinetic ability that entails the concentration of electrical energy within the users palm in the form of a ball. It was a close range ability.

The spiraling thunder was a default ability chosen by the system to Rai so he had no idea what the ability could do.

"Alright I guess I'll work with that, seeing as I have literally no options left." Rai spoke as he took a stance before taking in a deep breath. He extended his right hand forward as he had no idea what the ability could do yet.

"Raisen!" He exclaimed.

An ominous sound escaped his hand as electricity flowed from his arms and through his veins and into his right palm, sparks of electricity spiraled around the palm of Rai and a blue ball of energy manifested in the middle of those sparks.

"Alright!" Rai exclaimed with joy on his face. Finally he had come across an ability that actually proved to be useful in the course of him taking part in the exam.

POW!

A miniature explosion occured in the right palm of Rai which knocked him down to his buttocks. His hand had little scorch marks on them given the electricity in his hands had gone unstable and he was exposed to a mild electric shock.

"What just happened?" Rai questioned, trying to figure out what went wrong. He stood to his feet and shrugged his right hand which became a bit sore from the electrocution.

"Raisen!" He exclaimed attempting the technique again and the spiraling ball of thunder was generated on his palm once more. However, each time he attempted increasing the mass and size of the ball of electricity, it back fired at him and he ended up being electrocuted. At his fifth attempt Rai slumped to the ground, white smoke emitting from his body after so many electrocutions.

"W-why can't I....get this right." He tried to catch his breath, his right palm was beet red and he could barely feel his hand.

2 hours had passed since he attempted to grasp the concept of the spiraling ball of electricity but it took a huge toll on his body. Rai decided to take a break, asides his essence his only other chances of surviving in the Essenmages exams were his Kenjutsu, Taijutsu and his agility. However this honed skills would be branded as useless if his injury reaches a certain point where he couldn't fight anymore.

Rai scoffed. "I should have known from the start that learning this technique with this short amount of time left was close to impossible." He grunted as he struggled to get to his feet.

He stared at his burning flesh and grinned his teeth trying to hold in the pain. "I'll still need some time to master this technique, till then." He scoffed again. With his minor injuries he couldn't proceed with his training as of now which led to the conclusion that he'd be highly dependent on his skills for the first round of the exams.

He headed home and attended to his wounds before resting for the big day. Morning approached swiftly, well it was already 4:55 in the morning by the time he returned so he had little time to get some rest.

The exams were to begin at noon and Rai and Selena were yet to register for the exams. Registration for the Essenmages exams ends two hours before the exam commences. After freshening up and having their baths, Rai and Selena headed for the registration centre which was not far from where he lived.

They were given their registration number after registering, for Rai his was "507" and for Selena her's was "512". There were a total of 700 aspiring participants in the exams who hoped to climb the ranks and become an Essenknight.

"What happened to your hands Rai?" Selena asked noticing the bandages which covered his two hands.

"Oh nothing serious, I just tripped that's all." He replied her.

"You tripped? And both your hands got hurt so bad that you had to bandage it?" In disbelief she interrogated him.

"Such is life." He responded plainly.

The participants including the duo had already begun heading for the examination hall where they were to commence the exams. Nobles, Royalty and all the Essenknights had gathered to witness the rebirth of those who will be chosen above the others, those young heroes who would join the kingdom in the fight against the paradoxes. All nobles including Count Deskus and his son.
