Things Changed

Seo-yeon casually walked out of the hospital with Ji-hoon's bags as well as hers. Ma-ri had volunteered to stay with Ji-hoon for the day while Seo-yeon went out for work.

Seo-yeon showed complete gratitude to her only loving friend before walking down into the underground parking lot and picking Ma-ri's car.

On the quiet road, she tried her best to focus on just getting back home and starting work as usual. Many thoughts were swirling around her head as she drove down the streets.

She didn't know what to do right now, her mind was completely messed up like a tangled earpiece, unable to figure out which end to lose first.

She was sure she wouldn't be able to get all the money needed by the time required at this rate. She had saved up since Ji-hoon was diagnosed with glioblastoma but every single piece of her savings went out on buying drugs for him.

As soon as Seo-yeon parked the car in front of her building, she had expected the sight that welcomed her. A full restaurant, but that full restaurant had nothing to do with the amount of money she was going to earn a day.

She doesn't make up to five hundred thousand won in a day despite having almost all these customers.

"Good morning Madame Seo-yeon." They greeted politely as she walked into the building, a sweet smile appeared on her lips as she exchanged pleasantries with them.

"Good morning ma'am." Her two workers greeted with a warm smile and she nodded in response to their greetings before walking up to her apartment.

She made it to the living room and sat on the couch for a while, thinking about what she was going to do before she went down to the restaurant to help out with the day's work.

After distracting herself with work for a few hours, she went back to the apartment to pack their things to a corner. She made sure if anything happens, she would be able to pick just the things she has packed and leave.

She quickly searched for ingredients on the top shelf to make dinner for Ji-hoon and Ma-ri before deciding to make samgyeopsal (pork strips) and ddukbokki (spicy rice cake) for them.

Ma-ri's Benz drove into the hospital's parking lot later in the day and Seo-yeon stepped out of the car, holding a bag that contained the food she prepared for them.

As soon as she disappeared into the hospital, another car drove in and some nurses quickly rushed to the car to assist the patient out.

Instead of taking the normal route to a ward, the nurses took him towards another direction, as if trying to hide him from people.

"Momma!" Ji-hoon squealed when he saw his mother walk into the ward. Seo-yeon's face beamed with delight while watching her little help Ma-ri in making her hair.

The drip connected to his hand has been removed so he could move freely on the bed.

"How are you sweetheart?" Seo-yeon kissed his forehead, placing the bag she brought on the table.

"Ji-hoon is fine." He smiled and Seo-yeon gave his head a motherly pat before shooting Ma-ri a deadly glare, who immediately raised her hand's up in complete surrender.

"He insisted on helping me make my hair and I couldn't say no to the cutie. It's not like I told him to help me with it." Ma-ri pouted, making Ji-hoon laugh at her, she retracted her gaze to the laughing Ji-hoon and shot him a playful glare.

"Oh yes, laugh all you want Ji-hoon."

"I brought dinner." Seo-yeon cut her off, carrying Ji-hoon out of bed to sit on one of the sofas in the large ward.

They all sat down and quietly ate dinner, well.. except for Seo-yeon who just fed Ji-hoon while Ma-ri and Ji-hoon were busy chitchatting.

Seo-yeon didn't even bother to remind him about his table manners, she just allowed the boy to have his fun because seeing him happy was what she wanted.

After putting him to bed and confirming he was fully asleep, Seo-yeon walked to the large window, viewing the magnificent night view of the city from that height.

"I've decided to leave the building Ma-ri." Seo-yeon announced firmly, causing Ma-ri to look up at her.

"I'll put all the money together and wherever it can reach, I'll use it for his payment. I also need you to help me draft some papers…."

"It is what I'm thinking right? You'll go to him and ask him to pay for his son's bills. He hasn't paid any allowance since you both left and it isn't part of the contract you signed right?" Ma-ri specifically asked while Seo-yeon nodded affirmatively.

"Okay then, I will arrange it immediately. So when will you be going?"

"By the end of the month. I'll be moving over to your place and closing the restaurant. I'll look for a better job that pays hourly. By the time I work for five weeks, I might have gotten enough money to take care of us after his surgery." Seo-yeon thoughtfully replied.

"Alright... I'll arrange the papers, It should be done by that time still..."

Ma-ri's phone beeped in the middle of her conversation and she picked it from the table and looked at the notification that entered with a beguiling smile. "They approved, Nice!"

"What is that?" Seo-yeon asked.

"I took five weeks leave to help you take care of Ji-hoon till his surgery while you work." She smiled and Seo-yeon blinked in amazement.

"You…."

"Of course if I'm needed urgently I would go so it's nothing much. It's the least I could do for you Seo-yeon." Ma-ri smiled reassuringly.

"Thank you so much Ma-ri. I really owe you one."

"It's okay. It's nothing compared to what you did for me back then." Ma-ri smiled.

Ge-un suddenly stepped into the ward with two nurses following his trail, they were both holding some hospital equipment in a tray which they already knew would be needed to treat little Ji-hoon.

Ge-un politely greeted the ladies before him and moved on to monitoring the nurses as they inserted the drip into Ji-hoon's body.

"Did you eat something already Seo-yeon? You look sick." Ge-un said after studying the pale-looking Seo-yeon.

"She is sick, you dummy. Her son is sick here and you think she won't be too." Ma-ri frowned.

"Come on Ma-ri. She really looks sick. If she continues starving herself like this she's going to turn into a matchstick and probably even become as pale as the season during the harsh winter." Ge-un emphasized, looking at the lady who was trying to get on his bad side late that night.

"I'm fine Ge-un. Thanks for your concern." Seo-yeon smiled in an appreciative manner, patting his shoulders before walking to Ji-hoon's side.

"You took five weeks off from work Ma-ri." Ge-un looked at his stubborn girlfriend who was busy gawking at him like she would beat him up any moment.

"I took it because I want to take care of Ji-hoon myself while Seo-yeon is out. I don't trust any of your nurses to take care of my godson well." Ma-ri stubbornly responded, which Ge-un found to be a little rude.

"It's your luck that I'm completely busy right now, else I would have had your time but I can't waste the little strength I have on arguing with you young lady." He retorted with the same stubbornness.

"Just get out already." She humphed and turned away from him, Ge-un definitely had more to say to this stubborn headed girlfriend of his but chose to remain quiet before stepping out of the room.

"The both of you haven't changed from your bickering attitude one single bit, arguing like cat and mouse," she smiled while looking ahead as though she just remembered something,

"Do-yun and I also argue a lot like this back then, how unfortunate things changed." Seo-yeon smiled sadly.
