Chapter 7

At the end of my shift, Nance asked if I wanted to go out for a drink that weekend, to collectively drown our sorrows. I agreed before driving home and eating leftovers for dinner. Thoughts of Seb were the last thing on my mind, and I had more important things to think about, anyway.

By Saturday night, my head ached from trying to figure out my life and make plans. Nothing I saw online on the career sites was remotely interesting. I was more than ready for a drink or two.

Nance and I, along with a few other employees, headed to a club in midtown that typically had a mixed crowd. We didn’t have to wear uniforms at the store, so at least none of us stood out too much. Though maybe I did, with my khaki pants and white Oxford shirt, attire that I felt comfortable in professionally, but not so much in an environment like this.
