“He who fights Monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a Monster. And if you gaze long into the abyss, the abyss also gazes into you.” ~Friedrich Nietzsche However, what if the one fighting the Monsters is already one himself? ~~~~ Ethan is a seventeen year old teenager who is currently living at a church, seeing how he was abandoned at birth and found by one of the nuns who worshiped the Goddess of Light. The clergy often treated him differently than the other orphans because his appearance was unnatural. He knew nothing about who he truly was, however, what he did know is that he was not Human like the rest of the people in the church. For years he searched for the answer to find out what he was, but all the clues didn't go anywhere. Until the night where he had a dream, or one could say a vision, where he was walking past many books and stopping in front of one. Written on the cover was a single word "Bloodborne". Ethan was determined to find that book and read it, however, is obtaining knowledge always a good thing? He would discover more about himself than he wanted to after finding that book, and many hardships would follow. ~~~~ I do this as a hobby in my free time or when I feel inspired, it will likely not turn into anything serious in the future. So be ready for it not to update daily or for a few months. Since ten chapters have been released, I'm putting the Discord Link in here: https://discord.gg/gkbWjRVmEW

That Woman

Ethan stopped picking up a glass of orange juice and could feel his heart begin to rapidly slow down. Even though he never really interacted with the clergy, he could always tell that Sasha was keeping an eye on him when she was around. And when she did interact with him when he was younger, she always seemed to be on guard.

He finally realized that she was doing this because she knew he wasn't Human. Of course, Ethan could tell that he wasn't Human or Hybrid himself, but he never put it together when she would watch him and his actions.

"It's okay kiddo, if I wanted to tell the church I would've done it by now." Sasha placed her hand on Ethan's and he looked over at her, seeing a soft smile. "We should talk more at length later, for now, go eat with Hazel and tell her that you're planning to speak with me after you eat."

Sasha moved her hand to grab her tray and began walking to a table with other members of the clergy. Ethan finished putting food on his tray and then began walking over to Hazel, trying to act normal despite knowing that Sasha knew about him.

He sat across from Hazel and sighed, then looked up at her.

"I think I'll take your advice on talking to Sister Sasha." Ethan gave her a soft smile, and he saw Hazel's face light up for taking her advice.

"Really that's great, thanks for at least talking to her." She grabbed his hand and continued to smile. Ethan continued to give his soft smile to her, however, his eyes soon glossed over and he seemed to be in a daze.

Ethan found himself in a dark space and the only thing he could see was two people; Hazel and himself. However, he was violently biting into her neck and gorging himself on her blood.

After watching this scene for a few moments he snapped back to reality and felt Hazel grabbing his hand quite tightly, then heard him calling his name.

"Ethan. Are you okay?"

"Huh? Yea, I'm okay." Ethan pulled his hand away from her and looked at her worried face, she was clearly concerned because he wasn't responding to her.

"Good, I was trying to talk to you but you weren't responding. Were you zoning out or something?" Hazel placed her elbow on the table and then rested her cheek on her hand.

"Yea, you could say that." They both ate their food and after several minutes Ethan sighed then grabbed his tray and stood up. "I think I'll get going for the time being, meet up later?"

"Yea!" She smiled at his words, however, she also still felt worried about his actions before then.

Ethan entered a room with many benches and a marble statue of a beautiful woman wearing a provocative dress. He walked past the rows of benches till he reached one near the front and sat down next to a nun.

For several moments both of them were silent before the nun began to speak.

"I'm not sure if you know this, but I was the one to bring you to the church when you were an infant. I never found you like I told the church, instead you were given to me by a woman who was a close friend of mine at the time.

I served her family and was originally at this church under another mission; it was to investigate if there was Vampiric activity in the church and to eliminate everyone here if it was the case. Even though you were my secondary mission I felt like looking after you and protecting you while keeping my cover was more important than my original mission here.

I know some of your origins and was confused why she'd give you to me to look after you here. However, she explained that it would serve as a good cover until your bloodline fully awakened. Don't ask me what your origins are either, because I was given strict instructions not to tell you anything."

Sasha sighed for a moment before continuing to speak. "To be honest I thought you'd awaken it in a few years and kill everyone here, however, you proved me wrong and shrugged off the abuse given to you by the clergy and other orphans. I found that a very admirable trait of yours."

She then stopped talking, likely trying to figure out how to what was next. "The woman who gave you to me was kind and had a child of her own a month later, however, she didn't get to have a happy life with her child because she was brutally murdered and her child would've been killed too if it wasn't for her husband.

Sadly I know that she was killed because of her connection to you."

Sasha looked over at Ethan and could see that the Mana around him was calm, she could sense no guilt from him or any other emotions at that moment. She could sense a coldness from him though, and it gave her chills down her spine.

'He's changing too fast. He'll likely realize the truth about himself soon.'

She could see his soul look over towards her. "Are you able to tell me who this woman was, or were you given instructions to keep that a secret as well."

Much like the aura around him, his voice gave her goosebumps, and even though she couldn't see his eyes she felt the coldness from them. She slowly looked away from him and towards the ground.

"I was never given instructions to keep her identity a secret, however, I won't tell you at this moment. I will likely tell you in the near future, though that's just a guess right now."

"I understand."

They were both silent for a few minutes, then Sasha soon broke that silence.

"Ethan, I know what you are, however, I don't currently know what's going on with you. If you'd like to tell me, I'll gladly listen and offer my advice. Not because of the promise I made with the woman but because I genuinely care about you."
