In a darkened room that had dozens of shelves with books chained to them was a teenager who was walking through the shelves and reading the covers of each book as he passed them. He was looking for one book in particular even though he wasn't sure it was even real.

After walking through almost all the shelves he finally found the book he was searching for and the cover read one word that felt very familiar to him even though he'd never heard it before.

That word was "Bloodborne".

The teenager reached towards the chains holding the book and using brute strength he snapped them, which released a wave of Mana throughout the room. He then grabbed the book and looked over the cover.

The book was old and slightly fragile from that age. Its cover was a dark scarlet and the title was in aged golden letters. There was a protection spell cast on it, the spell would protect the book from the reader and slow down its aging.

After tracing his fingers over the title, he took a deep breath and began to slowly turn the cover. The first passage he read in the book confirmed what he knew deep down and now could no longer deny.

"Bloodborne are intelligent Humanoid Monsters that evolved from powerful Vampires, and like Vampires, they feast on the blood of living creatures. The way Bloodborne evolved is unknown, though there were rumors it was due to experiments on Vampires."

The teenager lived among Humans his whole life, however, he always knew from his first memory that he was not a Human. Since he was abandoned and brought to the Church of Light when he was a baby, he never knew what he truly was and would spend many years hunting down clues to that.

Sadly none of those clues would lead anywhere, instead, a week ago he had a dream where he was walking through this library located under the church he lived in. There he found that book and he felt it could explain to him what he was.

Since that dream, he had been preparing for this moment.

If the clergy found out that he wasn't Human they would certainly kill him, possibly at any cost or using any means. The teenager gritted his teeth at the thought of being killed for simply being born a Monster, but after a moment he sighed and continued reading the book.

"However, unlike Vampires, Bloodborne crave the Mana which is inside the blood of living creatures and not the blood itself. This of course means that they're attracted to living creatures with high amounts of Mana in their blood.

This normally doesn't include Humans because they tend to have low amounts of Mana in their blood, instead, they crave the blood of Mana Beast, other Monsters, and Mythical Creatures. However, a starving Bloodborne will attack a Human regardless of the amount of Mana in their blood."

The teenager placed his fingertips over his throat and could feel a slight burning sensation. This feeling had only appeared after he had the dream a week ago and caused him to quickly prepare several countermeasures once he had broken the chains to this book.

He placed his hand back on the side of the book and continued reading.

"Also unlike Vampires, Bloodborne cannot be turned or turn others, instead they are born much like Humans. Bloodborne are also born into different ranks depending on their bloodlines: Slave, Common, Noble, Royal, or Ancient. These ranks determine their strength, Abilities, and appearance.

Slave Bloodborne are the weakest amongst the five ranks and don't differ much from Humans in appearance or strength. A Bloodborne with a Common bloodline looks exactly like a vampire, black hair and pale red eyes, and normally have the same strength and Abilities as them too.

Noble Bloodborne will have dark-colored hair in shades of purple, red, and rare cases blue. That color pattern also applies to their eyes as well. Their power can range between the power of a Common bloodline or a Royal Bloodborne.

Royal Bloodborne will always have pure-white hair and sapphire blue eyes, along with having more fangs than the ranks below them and slightly pointed ears. They are the second strongest in the ranks of Bloodborne and are the second rarest bloodline."

The teenager ran his tongue over the tips of his teeth, feeling that the tips of his canines on the top and bottom of his mouth were pointed. Over the past week, he noticed that the tooth next to his canines leading towards the back of the mouth were becoming pointed as well.

"Ancient Bloodborne are by far the strongest and the fewest in number. They have pitch-black hair and violet eyes, along with having more fangs like Royal Bloodborne. This bloodline is said to be the only one that could grow their fangs and nails."

The teenager narrowed his eyes at this passage. His hair was white like a Royal's, however, his eyes were violet like an Ancient's. He pondered on this for a few moments, finally guessing his parents were a Royal and an Ancient and that's why he looked like that. Though he wasn't completely sure of it.

"There's also records of a Bloodborne known simply as the 'Blood Prince'. He was said to be the only Bloodborne with the Primordial bloodline and the first Bloodborne to exist. Some records described him to take many different forms, while others reported he was immortal. The one thing they could all agree on was that anyone who encountered him would die in mere moments."

The teenager immediately looked up from the book and turned his head towards the door leading into the library. He could hear several pairs of footsteps going down the stairs. He knew that breaking the chains and the Mana released would alert the clergy that someone was inside the library.

However, even with that knowledge, the teenager took the risk to enter. However, he didn't do this without a plan of escape.

The teenager closed the book and tucked it into his jacket, then slowly his body began to sink into the darkness that covered the room. Finally, his body disappeared into the floor before anyone could enter the room.

Special thanks to "NoSane" and "God Knows" for being beta readers, where they pointed out mistakes and helped me improve the novel.
