“He who fights Monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a Monster. And if you gaze long into the abyss, the abyss also gazes into you.” ~Friedrich Nietzsche However, what if the one fighting the Monsters is already one himself? ~~~~ Ethan is a seventeen year old teenager who is currently living at a church, seeing how he was abandoned at birth and found by one of the nuns who worshiped the Goddess of Light. The clergy often treated him differently than the other orphans because his appearance was unnatural. He knew nothing about who he truly was, however, what he did know is that he was not Human like the rest of the people in the church. For years he searched for the answer to find out what he was, but all the clues didn't go anywhere. Until the night where he had a dream, or one could say a vision, where he was walking past many books and stopping in front of one. Written on the cover was a single word "Bloodborne". Ethan was determined to find that book and read it, however, is obtaining knowledge always a good thing? He would discover more about himself than he wanted to after finding that book, and many hardships would follow. ~~~~ I do this as a hobby in my free time or when I feel inspired, it will likely not turn into anything serious in the future. So be ready for it not to update daily or for a few months. Since ten chapters have been released, I'm putting the Discord Link in here: https://discord.gg/gkbWjRVmEW

After Ethan had listened to Sasha's warning of making his life a living Hell, he surprisingly had a soft smile on his face. Sasha could sense the change in his Mana, it gave a gentle feeling around him.

Sasha knitted her brows as she turned towards him, completely confused as to why he'd give off a gentle aura even though she had just threatened him. She thought he'd be angry in some way or wouldn't take her threat seriously.

"What's with you? Why aren't you pissed off? Instead, you're giving off a sense of safety and warmth." She then mumbles the following to herself. "To be honest this is more chilling than if you were mad at me for the threat."

Ethan gave a little laugh, then slowly opened his eyes. After a few moments, he began to respond to her in a gentle tone.

"Your threat is valid. I may sound and give off a cold feeling recently, I'm not oblivious to that, but I still have emotions. Even though you know that I'm a Monster that feasts on blood, and from the sounds of it will be much stronger than you in the future, you still have the courage to threaten me.

With the current emotions I have, I agree with your threat. If I was to do something to harm her I'd want you to hate me and make sure I pay for what I did. She's the only person throughout the years that had constantly stayed by my side and accepted me for who she knew me to be.

You were never mean or abusive, even helped and taught me many things as a kid. But even if that was the case you always seemed distant or hesitant in a way. It makes sense now because you've always known what I was."

He turned his head to look at her and could tell from her face that she was surprised by his response. He never thought she assumed him to be a cold, unfeeling Monster because of the tone and air he mainly gave off now.

He looked back up at the ceiling and closed his eyes again. Once he did that Sasha could see the Mana go calm and cold again, then realized he had figured out what she was thinking. She looked forward and sighed.

"So do you plan on taking all my advice?"

Ethan sighed as well and waited a few seconds before responding. "Yea I'll listen to your advice. Despite us looking the same age, you've got several more years of experience in life and knowledge so it'd be stupid not to listen to it.

Besides that, you're still keeping some of the knowledge of my origins a secret from me. At least some of the advice you were giving has to be tied to those secrets."

Sasha locked her fingers together and set them on her lap, then looked down at them. "And you're not upset at the fact that I'm keeping the truth of your origins a secret from you, after all, you've spent most of your life looking for the answers behind who and what you are."

Ethan sighed once again, then leaned forwards with his elbows on his knees and his hands clasped together. Then he turned his head to look at Sasha, he could tell that she was nervous from her heartbeat.

"Sasha, you've never known me to be a violent person, right? I don't hold it against you for keeping this stuff a secret, after all, you promised a good friend of yours to do that. You have no need to be nervous around me because I wouldn't hurt you."

He could hear her heartbeat begin to steady out, then heard her take a deep breath.

'You have no idea who or what you truly are…. It only makes sense for me to be nervous around you….'

Sasha stands up and turns her body to face him.

"You should either talk to Hazel tonight or tomorrow, that way she can adjust to the knowledge and then you can leave with her in a week. I don't know how she'll react but we both know she already has suspicions about you.

Because of a certain someone, not naming names, stealing a tome from the Forbidden Library, I am extremely tired and want to sleep till tomorrow…. Since it's likely going to be dark soon."

Sasha began to walk away, however, stopped after a few steps. She then turned her head around back at Ethan and could see that he looked up at her after noticing that she stopped.

"Forgot to mention, if you are to live with Hazel you'll likely be able to accompany her to her senior year of high school. You've never been to an official school or been around lots of Humans, so this will be a good learning experience for you.

After all, you can't hide in your room and read light novels every day for the rest of your life."

Ethan let out another small laugh. "That's true, no matter how much I hate interacting with people, I likely have a very long life ahead of me and will need to experience what the world's like firsthand."

Sasha had a gentle smile after hearing how he understood and was taking that final advice of hers, then walked out of the room. Ethan leaned back and closed his eyes again, then as Sasha said, he tried to stretch out his senses as far as he could and improve them.

After a few minutes he could make out members of the clergy talking, however, couldn't understand what they were saying because they were muffled. He listened to them for about ten minutes before he could sense a familiar heartbeat and scent approaching him.

He looked up and smiled at the person, seeing that Hazel was slowly approaching him. Where she then sat next to him and laid her head against his arm before speaking.

"You were taking a long time so I went to look for you, Sasha said you might still be here."
