Sword Arts Online: Darkness

What if the creator of Sword Arts Online had controlled Kirito and his friends, turning them into evil, and brought the game into the real world, turning it into a giant game world? Well, this is the situation where our ordinary protagonist Roxas Nietes, or Spark78Reformed, as his player username, had found himself. Being a foreign high school student living in Japan with his friends in a shared house owned by his school would make his life there difficult, but his intelligence on basically anything instead made him prepared and an actionist. He was an ambivert who loved music, art, writing, picture taking, philosophizing, and best of all, making scenarios of all kinds in his mind. So, the day before SAO was brought into the real world, Roxas had unknowingly received a mysterious-looking email from a player named Anko Tachibana, who was a deceased player. That email is a request for help because he, who knew Kirito and his friends before, wants someone to help them, who are now known as the Elite Players, snap from their state of being brainwashed by the game. Roxas accepted it after some thinking, but there’s one condition: he will be Anko’s vessel because Anko is now a spirit after his death in the game. To be free from Anko’s ghostly possession, he needed to complete the task in any way he could. Now that he was Anko’s vessel, what would Roxas do to do this big and seemingly impossible mission? Well, he will use his intelligence, ambivert personality, and scenario-making mindset to do it, plus action. That combination sounds ridiculous and unorthodox, but for him, it will be a good one. So, join him, Anko, and their friends in a now-altered reality fighting monsters and bosses across Aincrad-ridded Japan and getting into the Tower while trying to get Kirito and his friends out of their brainwashed state. But the dark side of Sword Art Online was slowly revealed as Roxas and his friends went deeper and deeper for their mission through their spirit guardians. One of them was the origins of Eugeo and Alice (This was what if Eugeo and Alice were once humans who were killed and were forced to be bots in the games?) Warning: This story is dark, and the cover photos for this are NOT mine! Credits go to the original owner!

Chapter 56 - A New, Customized Add-on?

Third person POV

The next morning, after waking up, Shuto went to Roxas and his friends, who were making breakfast in the kitchen, and informed them of his recent dream with Keita. His friends, alongside Anko and Hideyoshi, were taken aback by it with shock.

 "Woah, what?"

 "No way…"

 "Oh, no…"

"Yes," Shuto responded back while nodding, "and that guy told me that we should aim for the 80th floor of the Tower because that floor contained the monster that has the keys to free him, Kirito, and their friends."

Roxas and his friends were shocked even more.

 "What?"

 "No way! The 80th floor?!"

 "That sounds too hard."

"I know," responded Shuto back, "but if we want to finish our given mission, we must do it."

While her friends were pumped up with determination, Koyuki felt behind, now wanting to search for her potential spirit guardian to do her part in this mission.

Later on, while eating breakfast with his friends, Shuto went on to explain that, to free Kirito and his friends, they must defeat their evil selves that were fabricated by the game's creator. Roxas and the others were stunned but understood that side note, keeping that in their minds as notes. Roxas then wrote it in his notepad later on.

After that, at the school rooftop during lunchtime, Roxas was reading his usual book while Anko was reading it when the system's screes appeared before Roxas, showing him a new "official" feature that was added in the game: Add-on Mods Chute. As the name suggested, it is a horizontal chute that allows any players who can make mod packs to add little changes to the game to make it more enjoyable. Here are the steps:

1. Write, draw, or both, your mod pack ideas on paper, either typing or writing by hand for linear form, while hand draw or digital draw it for visual, non-linear form.

2. Submit them to the Add-on Mods Chute, which will process them according to their current ability to interpret their meanings and ideas and make them into reality as mod packs.

3. The chute will turn them into reality in the game.

4. Label your mod packs and add a passcode to keep them secured and safe from anyone who wants to steal or remove them.

5. Enjoy the game with your customized mod packs!

Roxas and Anko were stunned, and Roxas, having experienced with small-time mod packs in his favorite games like Minecraft, decided to cash in.

So, while lunchtime was still on, Roxas made his own by typing a document on his laptop, which was luckily brought to school by him, and printed it out at the school's library printer, before feeding it through the Add-on Mods Chute, which turns it into reality in the game. His is called Music Morale Boost, which boosts the morale of players according to their taste and preference for kinds of music. This boosted their morale, and in turn, their stats temporarily. And then, the Chute took effect and action, adding the mod pack into the game with immediate effect. Now, every player has a meter that fluctuates depending on the player's taste and preference for music. If it was high, it would boost the player's stats. If it was low, it would maintain the same stats, having no effects at all. The duration of the effect will vary, of course. And so, the players suddenly had that, and some of them had high ones when listening to their favorite tunes, while others had low ones that didn't have any effect on their stats. As a result, those who had temporarily boosted stats became more efficient in their fighting with swords and other metal weapons. Upon seeing that effect and good fruit from the school rooftop, Roxas was positive that his idea had worked well. Anko was stunned, knowing that Roxas was smarter than he thought. Roxas then labeled his mod pack as Music Morale Boost and put a passcode for it, making him the owner of it.

The game became more enjoyable than ever thanks to Roxas' radical innovation. But as for the Add-on Mods Chute, no one knows who added it, adding a layer of mystery to the game.
