Swimming Prodigy’s Return

Life isn’t fair and Kim Min-chul knows it...except it isn’t for the reason you are thinking. ...Min-chul is just too damn PERFECT!!! he has a tall height of 184 cm, a fast metabolism, perfect swimmer’s body without even trying and is unknowingly a ladies man! He makes girls fall for him without even knowing!!! How do you even do that?!?! Unfortunately however, he let this all get to his head. Not starting his swimming career until he was in junior high and barely making it into the international leagues. Even then, he would neglect his training regularly. With his 184 cm height, his constant slumping caused him to lose some height, eventually reducing to 176 cm. Even with his fast metabolism, he ate too much and rarely exercised; giving him a potbelly at 29. Despite his natural swimmer’s body, his shoulders got narrowed down and social skills now non-existent. Looking back at his life in high-school and college as a 40 year old salaryman making just above-average wage, he stares over Wariss Bridge and contemplates. Contemplating whether life is worth living or not... “Bwahahahaha!!! What the hell, author? Contemplating what, you liar! I just thought that the view was nice!” “...y-y-you...you’re courting death; insulting me, ancestor koppa!” That day, a strong gust of wind started the chain of unlikely events that would eventually take Min-chul’s life. ‘.....I died, huh?’ [beep boop zorp... I am making robot noises!] “What the hell?!?!” [Oh! You are host, yes? I am your system! Your swimming system!] NOTE: This story isn’t one of those “ sport is life” novels. This is the story of redemption for a man who lost everything due to his own negligence. He isn’t a swimmer, he is a regular guy with a life who is also happens to be a swimmer. Don’t get me wrong though, there will be tournament arcs and swimming tournaments but I will focus on a more slice of life type story for this novel.

Personal Trainer

Waking up in the morning, I start my intense training routine. For this, I need to always sleep at 7:00 p.m. and wake up early at 6:00 a.m. I started this to train myself for when I go swimming.

"Hooooo....haaaa...aaarrrghhhhh!"

Finishing my 3rd push-up after doing 5 sit-ups and 2 squats, I lay down on the floor and remember about today's exciting agenda and possibly, tommorow's swimming session.

I've already calmly convinced my mother that I can swim and I won't drown with words and my superior intellect.

(How Min-chul Convinced His Mom)

"MAMAAAAA!!! I wanna swimm!!!"

"Oh baby... are you sure? I don't want you drown or hurt yourself..."

"mama, I wanna swim"

"Oh bu-"

'Hooooo??? It's not working on mom? I guess I'll have to play my trap card!'

"mama..."

Titling my head, looking down from time to time, widening my eyes to make them sparkly; looking like I'm about to cry. This is the way. If you want to convince your mother, or women in general, do this.

'This is called the Min tilt...Milt?'

[I like the name so much that I think it's so utterly stupid. What in all that is holy is the 'Milt'? Sounds like something you throw away after cleaning your house. "Did you get all the milt, oppa?" or "aishh! You left your room filled with milt, son!" Something like that]

'Alright alright...I'm sorry you feel that way Feelie, but this works! It's proven by science that 9.5/10 women will fall for this charm!'

[oh? What's the 0.5 that don't?]

'Obviously...they are either lesbians or they hate cute things. Both of which don't exist'

[oh...isn't that joke a bit too edgy for Webnovel?]

'Is it? I think the readers know I'm kidding though, right? I'M KIDDING I'M KIDDING!!! Hello!?!? IT WAS A JOKE!! Lesbians are real!!!'

"ara ara...how cute. Uuuuu... I guess I can let you follow mommy while she jogs and maybe... maybe I'll let you swim"

'Oh... I almost forgot about mom. See, Feelie? It works'

[whatever, you suck-up]

'Uhuh'

First I gave mom the stick and now it's time for the carrot. You must be thinking...

"Why is your cute face the stick, Min-chul Oraboni?" Well my cute little reader, it's the stick because who wants to see a cute baby crying? Not women that's for sure.

This technique is to activate their motherly instinct. By the way, this only works in steps:

1. Have a cute baby face that 1/2 every woman you meet will want to squish your cheeks.

2. Widen you eyes to looks sparkly; the crying effect is amplified by switching the eye you look at every 5-9 seconds. Remember! Eye contact for maximum effect!

3. Tilt your head about 15° and pout your lips ever so slightly. After this, ask whatever you want.

This my friends, is the way to woman's heart.

(End of Flashback)

Putting on my baby sneakers with the help of mom, I start jogging beside her while she slows down to let me catch up. Again, how did I not jog in my last life? The air really feels great on my face.

"How is it, Min-chul ah? Are you tired?"

"No!"

Smiling, she leaves me by a wall to wait for her to use the bathroom. Wandering around and sitting down by a nearby tree, I watch the scenery. Lush, green grass, buff dudes doing pull-ups, hot girls running about and old people dancing. It's really scenic.

"Ara ara~~ what do we have here~?"

"What a lil' cutie~"

'Oh God no...'

Right now, while waiting for mom, I'm being surrounded by 2 shotacons...yes they are good looking and young but when I reach their age, they'll probably be in their 30's. No no no...leave before my mom comes back...

'This for your own good'

Hoping they heed my mental warning, they still keep crowding around me; asking questions such as "where is your mommy~?" and "why don't you follow sister~~?"

'Ay yay yay...I'd better hope that these women keep all their teeth'

"Min-chu-.....what's happening? Why are you two crowding my son?"

"Huh? You're his mom? Is that true, little cutie~?"

"Yes yes. Don't follow strangers, okayyyy~~?"

"Un! That's my mom!"

Hearing my answer, they run off into the sunrise, never to be found again. However, my mom's eyes look a bit...off. Like she's trying to remember something or is trying to scan something.

Weird.

Continuing our jog, I see my mom greeting various people of various ages and genders. Seems she's a very active person in this park, huh?

"Oh! Morning, Min-hee sshi!"

"Ah! Morning Seung-ri nim"

'Who? Seung-ri? Wait... Go Seung-ri? Go "Bigman" Seung-ri?'

Obviously, hearing Seung-ri's name, I'm surprised. Why? He was my high school coach in junior and senior year! He was also the coach that encouraged me the most when I didn't follow my routines.

So that's why he was so strict and supportive of me, huh? He knew mom? Is he her personal trainer?

"Oh-ho! If it isn't little Min-chul. Waaaa~, what a cutie. What's he doing here with you?"

"Ahahaha... this little boy was begging me to take him on a run. I didn't want him to hurt himself but he seemed so determined to exercise"

"Oh really? What a good habit your boy has...say, why don't you hand him over sometime if he wants so exercise?"

"You? Don't you think you're a bit too intense?"

"Me? Pffftttt.... I'm not intense"

(Seung-ri just 1 hour before meeting Min-hee and Min-chul)

"Yo! Can you spot me, bro?"

"Sure, bro!"

Standing above Seung-ri is one of his close gym buddies, Nae Kwan. Both of them are Physical Education teachers making regular amounts of money while taking pride in their fitness; always pushing their limits and breaking past it.

Right now, Seung-ri has 2 red colored weights on each side of his barbell. Each weighs 50kgs...that's right, he is bench pressing 200 kilograms. To put that into perspective, that's about 1/5th of a Mini Cooper or in imperial measurements, 1/12th of a Ford Raptor pickup truck.

The point is, it's very heavy. So heavy in fact, that dropping it hard enough will probably indent the floor.

"Grahhhh!!!"

"Go on!! Come on!!! Push push! One more! This is the last one!"

Like a husband encouraging his wife during their child's birth, Kwan enthusiastically eggs Seung-ri on while saying that this will be the last one. He has been saying this for 3 reps already.

"Graahhhhhh!!!! Huuuhh... huuuh.... ahahhhhaa.."

"Nice!! A new personal best, eh? 6 reps? Nice job"

High-fiving each other, Seung-ri heads out to do some cardio in the park since he prefers the fresh air to running on a treadmill.

(Back to present)

"I'm not intense..."

"Uhuh...oh, I hear you swim, right?"

"Oh, yes! It's a very fun exercise! When I'm not bulking up, it's perfect for maintaining my physique. Why? Do you want lessons?"

Hearing Seung-ri's enthusiasm, Min-hee shivers inside with fear. She still remembers when he got her to try deadlifting 40 kgs one time. Needless to say, her back wasn't in the best shape for walking for almost 1 week.

Ever since then, she has been reluctant to take lessons from him but seeing that Seung-ri's wife just gave birth to a second child, she thought that maybe he'll know how to hold back when Min-chul, a boy the same age as his daughter, is the student.

"Oh no! My son was very interested in swimming so I was wondering if you could teach him sometime"

"Ahahaha!! I'd love to"

'Yes! Coach Seung-ri! Get!'

Talking for a bit about unimportant subjects such as the weather, Seung-ri's family, my family or fitness for another 5 minutes, we say our goodbyes and head back home.

Satisfied with my current haul of a coach, some exercise and getting familiar with the park, I lie down in my bed and take an afternoon nap. Suddenly, a familiar voice sounds in my ears.

'Huh. Nice. Almost forgot about that daily quest'

Sleeping off the tiredness from the workout after a shower, I wake up to my mother calling me for dinner. Again, the same old same old dinner, watch TV, listen to English words and TV shows then it's night night time. Oh yes, the bedtime song.

"And if that cart and bull turn over~

Mama's gonna buy you a dog called Rover~

And if that dog called Rover don't bark~~

Mama's gonna buy you a horse and cart~"

"Huuuuahhhh....night mom"

"Hehe...good night, Min-chul ah"

'Ahhh, I wanna grow up quickly'
