Swimming Prodigy’s Return

Life isn’t fair and Kim Min-chul knows it...except it isn’t for the reason you are thinking. ...Min-chul is just too damn PERFECT!!! he has a tall height of 184 cm, a fast metabolism, perfect swimmer’s body without even trying and is unknowingly a ladies man! He makes girls fall for him without even knowing!!! How do you even do that?!?! Unfortunately however, he let this all get to his head. Not starting his swimming career until he was in junior high and barely making it into the international leagues. Even then, he would neglect his training regularly. With his 184 cm height, his constant slumping caused him to lose some height, eventually reducing to 176 cm. Even with his fast metabolism, he ate too much and rarely exercised; giving him a potbelly at 29. Despite his natural swimmer’s body, his shoulders got narrowed down and social skills now non-existent. Looking back at his life in high-school and college as a 40 year old salaryman making just above-average wage, he stares over Wariss Bridge and contemplates. Contemplating whether life is worth living or not... “Bwahahahaha!!! What the hell, author? Contemplating what, you liar! I just thought that the view was nice!” “...y-y-you...you’re courting death; insulting me, ancestor koppa!” That day, a strong gust of wind started the chain of unlikely events that would eventually take Min-chul’s life. ‘.....I died, huh?’ [beep boop zorp... I am making robot noises!] “What the hell?!?!” [Oh! You are host, yes? I am your system! Your swimming system!] NOTE: This story isn’t one of those “ sport is life” novels. This is the story of redemption for a man who lost everything due to his own negligence. He isn’t a swimmer, he is a regular guy with a life who is also happens to be a swimmer. Don’t get me wrong though, there will be tournament arcs and swimming tournaments but I will focus on a more slice of life type story for this novel.

Min-chul Time Share

(3rd POV)

It's been 15 days since Ji-woo admitted that she liked Min-chul and...nothing truly eventful happened after. They both met up, they swam together sometimes and more often than not, little So-young found a way to intrude.

So-young regularly found a way to join in on Ji-woo and Min-chul's activities, taking away her Min-chul time.

Despite discussing this with So-young, she refused to abide by their agreement.

The little girl has no concept of agreeements.

Seriously, So-young seems like the person to say they will keep a secret and then immediately tell her parents, her friends and everyone in the same country.

It's ridiculous! Just thinking about it was making Ji-woo want to pull her hair out.

(9 days earlier...)

A few days ago, Ji-woo's mother refused to use her connections so little Ji-woo could get So-young's address. So, she had to resort to more...dirty tactics.

Ji-woo knows that So-young won't meet her if she knows who is calling her and she actively either avoids Ji-woo or tries annoying Ji-woo as long as Min-chul is not watching.

So, she devised a little letter to convince So-young to meet up with her.

9 days ago, So-young did her usual routine of waking up, showering, eating breakfast, brushing teeth, and kissing her Min-chul picture goodbye.

She was walking happily along the street while humming the tune of a romantic song and trying to match her little steps with the beat.

Everyone who saw her, young or old, man or woman, immediately felt their day lightened up. It isn't every day that you see such a happy sight.

'She must have had a good day yesterday~'

Was what they were probably thinking. I don't know, I'm the narrator and don't care about anyone else besides the main characters.

It's life. The life of a background character is really hard, okay? Just ask Sun-hee, Min-chul's auntie.

She was a background maid that became important in only one chapter!

Of course, this was right after her stint as a haughty young master, but we are going off topic.

As So-young enters through the gates of the primary school, the old security guard greets her as he usually does and sits back in his chair. She smiles lightly and continues on her way.

When So-young reached her locker to place her swimming stuffs for later in the day, she found a beige colored note.

On the front, it read "To So-young~♥". She already knew what this was since she was a very popular girl.

Even though she would usually throw these out without thinking twice, she saw the little calligraphy on the front and decided to entertain the admirer.

Inside the letter read:

"To, So-young

Hi So-young. I'm a bit embarrassed to tell you in person since I have known you for so long.

I sincerely want you to come behind the school so that I can tell you something important. I will be waiting.

From, Min-chul~♥

P.S: please don't mention this letter to me, I will be embarrassed. Ahaha...thank you again for reading...and don't forget to go behind the school! ♥"

After reading the letter that most likely took a while to construct, she had to read it again. Was this correct? Did the sender mean it for her?

She reads it for the 3rd time and final sees the sender; Min-chul. Her childhood friend, crush and swimming buddy, Min-chul.

She realizes that she is still standing in the hallway and runs into the classroom, reading the letter over and over while hiding it under her desk.

"Heya, So-young!"

"Eeekkkk!...uhhh, hi Young-jae"

Since they have known each other for a while now, Young-jae knows that something is up with So-young. She isn't usually this jumpy.

Well, unless it involves...

"Ohhhh ehehe...I got it I got it. Min-chul was talking with Ji-woo, huh? Yeaaahhh, I sometimes get jealous as well, but don't let it get to your head!"

"Th-that's not the point! It's, uhhh, it's nothing!"

"Uhuh, alright then. I'll leave you be!"

Running off, Young-jae returns to talk to his fellow rough playing buddies. She looks at the boy next to her and starts thinking about his letter.

She blushes and tries to get this over with as quickly as possible. It's impossible for a little girl like her to handle this kind of pressure!

And just like that, her day passed quicker than the Olympic 100 meter sprint. She tried her best not to show her nervousness to Min-chul since for some reason, it didn't look like he was nervous talking to her.

Is he really this confident? Since when was he able to keep his cool like this? Isn't the boy usually more embarrassed than the girl?

All the k-dramas she watched from her mother's collection got to her head and somehow corrupted her view of reality. A very common occurrence.

The little So-young quickly rushed out of the swimming pool and changed as fast as she can so she won't make Min-chul wait.

After all, he did leave about 20 minutes early due to him winning the friendly competition.

Oh yeah, since Min-chul usually wins the competition, they stopped calling it the "friendly competition" and now, it's unofficially called the "Min-chul massacre".

Obviously, Coach Kwan didn't mention this in class, but he knows of this.

As So-young arrives behind the primary school building by the dumpster, she gets a bit nervous as Min-chul still isn't here?

Maybe he's buying drinks for the both of them? Is he hyping himself up? Yeah! That's what he's doing.

Soon, So-young hears some footsteps approaching her. Her heart starts beating, her back sweating and her knees feel like they are twigs about to collapse.

All of this anticipation, all of her practicing her lines during class, all of her nervousness and all of her expectations, they were shattered like sugar glass.

Like a cliche villain, Ji-woo comes around the corner to show herself as the mastermind behind this scheme.

"clap...clap...clap...you actually came, So-young. Obviously, that clap was sarcastic"

"Tsk tsk tsk. Kuh! You...you villain! You dare use Min-chul oppa's name? Haaahhh???"

While Ji-woo voices out her clapping, So-young clicks her tongue in anger. Her sweet, blushing face now replaced by a grimace that would make a gangster shudder.

"Ohoh? What an ugly face. I wonder what Min-chul would say when he saw that side of you, you angry sow"

"As I said, you vixen. A thief is always a thief. So what? Did you call me hear to taunt me? Annoy me? How childish"

"Annoy you? Well, that is a bonus, but it isn't my main goal. I may be stupid in some aspects of life but-"

"ALL aspects of life...you needed Min-chul's teaching and even then, you barely passed, you stupid gyaru. All you know is thievery and mockery, huh?"

As So-young surgically dissects Ji-woo's patience, it's getting harder and harder for Ji-woo to not just get Jiji, her butler, to wreck this little barbaric bovine.

"Alright alright, let's calm ourselves, wild girl. This isn't a roasting contest since I just had some of your relatives. Ahhh, bulgogi is good~"

Rubbing her belly, she sees that So-young doesn't try retaliating this time. Now, Ji-woo is sure that So-young knows that they aren't getting anywhere being so childish.

There are more important matters at hand.

"Good...now, I'd like to propose a solution to end our feud and have Min-chul for both of us"

"!!!...both of us? What if I want all of him?"

"Then you are selfish, stupid, stupid and selfish. Hear me out at least?"

"...fine then. Explain yourself"

So, Ji-woo took an entire 20 minutes explaining the plan, all of its exceptions, nuances, any possible loopholes and why this is beneficial for Min-chul and them.

"So, whatcha think?"

"It seems good, but that's in practice. There is no punishment if someone breaks the rules. We both know that utopias aren't real"

Even though Ji-woo doesn't know these complex terms such as "you-to-pia" or "mok-karey", she can mildly know what So-young is talking about.

"Yeah, the punishment will be the ire of Min-chul. Think about it. Let's say I break the rules and we fight over it. What do you think Min-chul would feel that both of his closest friends are fighting"

"Hmmm, I guess that is a very good punishment...I'll agree to you"

So, after their long and rigorous debating session of whether this would be an effective solution, they finally shake their hands and agree on the solution now known as "Min-chul's Time Share Plan".

And so, this takes us back to Ji-woo now, lying in bed and making herself expander by thinking of So-young's stupid face.

"Grahhhh...you know what? Fine. If she wants to play, I'll play her game. Let's see how Min-chul would feel..."

Muttering into her pillow, she slams her fist and gives off a grin that could rival that of a psychopathic main character or the scheming antagonist.
