Assault on the Town

"Sir Thomas, are you alright? What happened to your eye?" Auric exclaimed, his voice filled with concern.

The turmoil unfolding around him sent waves of unease through his being.

"It's just a scratch, young master. Don't worry about me. Come with me right now. I need to get you somewhere safe," Thomas reassured him, trying to remain composed despite his inner turmoil.

As soon as Thomas spoke, a menacing growl reverberated through the chaos, and a Dire Wolf pounced on him from behind. The knight stumbled momentarily but quickly regained his balance, unsheathing his sword as he pivoted to face the ferocious creature.

"Stay behind me, young master. I'll dispatch this beast swiftly," Thomas assured Auric, though anxiety coursed through his veins.

Auric carefully assessed the formidable monster before him:

Howl (debuff) - Lowers enemy defense by 10 for 3 turns

Charge (movement) - Rushes towards target, dealing 30 damage and stunning for 1 turn

Description: Dire Wolves are fearsome predators renowned for their colossal size and unparalleled strength. Often found in packs, they tenaciously defend their territory against intruders. With razor-sharp teeth and powerful jaws, they can swiftly overpower even the most formidable adversaries. While their thick fur offers some protection against physical assaults, they are vulnerable to magic. Beware when facing a Dire Wolf, for they should never be underestimated! ]

The wolf snarled, revealing its menacing teeth as it circled the knight. Its fur was singed and tangled from the inferno, yet its eyes glimmered with a primal hunger that sent a shiver down the knight's spine. This was no ordinary wolf; Dire wolves were larger and more ferocious than their common counterparts.

Bracing himself, the knight engaged the charging wolf, skillfully parrying its initial strike with his sword. However, the force behind the attack caused him to stagger. Seizing the opportunity, the wolf lunged once more, but Thomas swiftly caught it by the throat, tightening his grip until the creature yelped in pain.

With a mighty roar, the knight hurled the Dire wolf to the ground, raising his sword to deliver the final blow. Yet, in that split second, a resounding rumble shook the earth, causing a nearby building's roof to collapse under the weight of the raging flames.

Caught off guard, the knight hesitated momentarily, providing the wolf the chance it needed to escape his grasp, darting away swiftly. Thomas cursed under his breath, scanning his surroundings, struggling to orient himself amidst the pandemonium. The village burned around him, but he knew he couldn't yield—he had to save his young master.

"Young master, let s go," the knight urgently called out.

Nodding, Auric picked up his sister, silently praying for her safety. As they cautiously navigated the debris-laden path, fear coursed through Auric's veins, the sight of destruction and chaos instilling a deep sense of dread within him.

Auric witnessed the town consumed by raging flames, its inhabitants embroiled in a desperate struggle for survival. Smoke rose ominously, cloaking the sun and casting an eerie, orange glow upon the land. At first, he could scarcely comprehend the scene unfolding before his eyes—a monstrous assault upon the town and its people.

Amidst the chaos, Auric observed men battling relentlessly to extinguish the spreading fires, while others frantically searched for their loved ones. The air resonated with anguished cries, and the crackling flames drowned out every other sound.

Fear paralyzed Auric, for he had never borne witness to such devastation. The overwhelming sight before him quickened his heartbeat, torn between the urge to flee and the desire to contribute in any possible way.

As the chaos continued to unfurl, Auric realized he could not simply stand idly by. He had to escape; he couldn't offer any meaningful assistance. Countless formidable monsters swarmed the area, rendering his own strength insignificant. His sister's safety took precedence, even if it meant sacrificing himself or the lives of others.

While the trio of monsters approached, the knight valiantly engaged them in combat. Overwhelmed by the sheer number of adversaries, he found himself overpowered. An agile kobold slipped past the knight's defenses, poised to attack Auric. The kobold, armed with a rusty spear, wore a savage expression upon his face. Although the knight recognized his blunder, he remained pinned down by the relentless onslaught of monsters.

While their physical strength is not impressive, they make up for it with their intelligence and cunning. They are able to use magic to hurl fire bolts at their enemies and can set traps to catch unsuspecting foes. Kobolds prefer to attack from range, but will use their spears in close combat if necessary. They are not very resilient and can be taken down quickly, but their agility and trap setting abilities make them a dangerous opponent if underestimated. ]

Cradling Ellie in his arms, Auric, despite his fear, discovered the resolve to fight and protect his sister. As the kobold swung its spear, Auric deftly evaded the attack, delivering a swift kick to the creature's face. In a sudden twist of fate, the kobold's head was sent soaring through the air, and its lifeless body crashed to the ground.

Crimson droplets splattered Auric's visage, but he had no time to contemplate the macabre spectacle. Amidst the chaos, another knight, Luke, emerged and aided Thomas in dispatching the encroaching monsters. With urgency, Luke rushed over to Auric to ensure his well-being.

Though Auric assured him of his safety, the knight insisted on examining him for injuries, breathing a sigh of relief upon finding no major wounds. Determined to escape, they pressed onward. As they ventured forth, Auric learned of the fallen knights and guards who had perished in the midst of battle. Along the way, he caught sight of his uncle and some guards fighting the monsters and two men in black while his aunt assisting Max and the guards by providing buffs.

But as soon as Aunt Lu saw them, she came running towards them and hugged Auric and Ellie. "Are you and Ellie okay?" she asked, grabbing Auric's cheeks as if to check for any injury and checking up on Ellie.

"I'm okay, Aunt. Ellie just fainted. There is no injury on her. I think you should heal Sir Thomas' eye. He's badly injured," Auric replied.

Nodding, Aunt Lu healed Thomas' left eye that was red with blood that was flowing out of it. Although she managed to heal him, it seemed that Thomas could no longer use his eye. Despite his regret, the knight's priority was to save Auric first.

The battle between the two men and uncle max was fierce, no one was backing down. But with the relentless attacks and also another man in the vicinity that he had sensed, he knew he couldn't hold on for long.

"Lu, get them out of here. Thomas, please protect them!" Uncle Max called out amidst the ongoing battle. Auric was watching the deadly battle unfolding but with his meager strength he couldn't even follow the attacks.

His eyes darted around, taking in the chaos and destruction around him. Suddenly, he caught sight of a figure perched on the edge of a burning roof. For a moment, their eyes locked, and Auric felt a chill run down his spine.

The man's gaze was intense, and it seemed to pierce right through Auric. He could feel the weight of the man's stare, and it sent shivers down his spine. In that moment, Auric was filled with a mixture of fear and unease, wondering what thoughts might be going through the man's mind.

Despite the chaos and destruction around him, Auric found himself transfixed by the man's gaze. It was as though they were the only two people in the village, and the man's piercing stare made Auric feel as though he were completely exposed.

For a brief moment, Auric felt as though he couldn't move, trapped in the gaze of the man on the burning rooftop. But then, the man disappeared from view as the roof collapsed beneath him, and Auric was jolted back into action.

He then heard his uncle calling out to him, "Brat, survive and protect your aunt and your sister." Auric could see his uncle smiling even with those brutal wounds on him, fighting the beasts and the two men shrouded in black clothing. Auric's respect for his uncle rose.

'I will be as strong as him, no, more than him' Auric thought. But first, I have to get out of here. He knew he could not survive if he met that man who was sitting on the roof. Just thinking about him sent chills down his spine.

"Go!" his uncle shouted at them.

Aunt Lumina had tears falling down her cheeks, but she knew she had to go for the children. Even with those emotions, she turned around and started running, carrying Ellie whom she took from Auric's arms, and dragged Auric out of the town.

The knight followed them, protecting and fighting off any beast that dared come to them.

They made it out of the town and were going straight to the river beside it.
