On Road or Off Road?

I started the car and slammed the gas pedal down in reverse. I swung the truck around and then switched to drive. I smashed the gas pedal again and I was flying down the road. The trip would normally have taken me two hours, but it was probably going to take a bit longer than that.

'I am going to drive down the road for as long as I can.'

There were cars in the road as well as Zombies that seemed to be fighting each other. Thankfully, there was room each time for me to weave between the cars, and I just rammed straight through the Zombies.

My bumper smashed their heads and there were little bumps as my tires crushed them. Some of their blood flew into my windshield, but strangely it was clumped up and was turning black.

'Does the blood really coagulate inside their bodies? That is so disgusting.'

I continued like that for several minutes until I saw something that made my jaw drop. There were two Zombies. I saw one hit the other over the head with a crowbar. The zombie fell flat on the ground and the other dropped its crowbar, fell down towards the corpse, and began to rip out the corpse's throat with its teeth.

'They are cannibalizing each other? That is so disgusting.'

I pressed on, but my mind ran rampant. 'Everything happened so fast. I feel like all of this shit is just going to disappear as my eyes open. This had better be a dream.'

There was an 18 wheeler off in the distance that had flipped over and was burning. It looked like it had held gasoline. I turned down another side road and continued on.

About an hour passed with me weaving around cars, splattering Zombies, and wiping their disgusting blood off my windshield. I had long since taken a country road.

There was just one problem. Ahead of me, there was an even more massive fire than the last and swarms of Zombies in firefighter apparel. I spun my wheel around. As my truck hurtled off the country road and into a corn field, I felt my truck's suspension protesting its treatment through screeching metal as my truck contacted the ground hard.

I could hardly see anything because my truck's height brought me just barely over the cornfield. After driving through the cornfield, I cut back onto the country road that had been blocked.

Another hour passed like that, and I came upon a highway. I revved my engine and merged onto the highway. I glanced over the numerous Zombies that were fighting each other and then I ignored them.

'I'm not going to bother them unless they get in the way. The ugly fuckers are eating eachother. I'm not going to let them take a bite out of me, instead, they can taste my bumper.'

As I began to speed up to 70 MPH, I glanced at a green road sign and from it, I could tell that I was just 10 miles out from Dallas.

'Now, I'm just glad my brother lives on the outskirts of Dallas. Such a big city as Dallas is sure to be a fuckfest.'

I took a roundabout way and eventually found myself on a smaller road. The road was slightly familiar to me because I had visited my brother a few times in the past.

'Zane always has been a dick. He is always saying I joined the lesser branch. The marines probably inject you with Testosterone, Dbol, Tren or something because that would surely explain his impulsivity and lack of brain cells. It is irrelevant now though. We are brothers. Rivalry is healthy, but this is a life and death situation, so there isn't time for that.'

I pulled my truck down his long dirt driveway. As I pulled out my keys, I noted that the gas was really low. I wouldn't be able to drive very far. I turned to my gear and brought everything out the door with me.

'Zane, you had better not have glowing eyes when I see you. I don't want to have to put you down.'

I walked up to the door and knocked. A few seconds passed and no one answered. I knocked louder and shouted. "ZANE, OPEN UP. IT'S ME, TRAVIS!"

A few more seconds passed and I heard steps behind the door. I heard the door's bolt sliding and then the knob turning. The door opened to reveal a man with blue eyes, black hair, and an imposing stature like a bodybuilder. The man was my brother.

I stepped forward and brought him into a hug. My brother embraced me as well and then softly pushed me away. "Now look Travis, it's nice of you to come down here, but what's the occasion?"

I had seen a woman over Zane's shoulder, briefly as I hugged him.

'When the fuck did he get a girlfriend? No, there are more important things than that I need to discuss with him.'

"Zane, did you happen to see a really bright green light?"

"What do you mean? I went driving today to pick up this lovely lady here and we went through a lot of green lights, I don't even think we hit a single red. After that, I showed her the bunker. And before you came, well, we were busy."

I shook my head and sighed. "Congrats big bro, you lost your virginity. But around what time did you go in the bunker? And, you haven't seen any Zombies or anything have you?"

"Haha, real funny Travis. This girl isn't some whore, she is a girl I've been dating the past few weeks. Also, the only Zombies I have ever seen have been in horror movies."

He peered a little closer at my eyes. "You aren't high, are you?"

I threw up my hands in exasperation. "I don't know how to tell you this, but we are now living in a Zombie apocalypse. It all started with a great green light in the sky. It did not affect me because I was wearing some really expensive sunglasses, which were burnt to a crisp. Regardless, that light made everyone go unconscious and when they woke up, they turned into cannibalistic maniacs with green glowing eyes. They are all in a frenzy, I'm telling you."

He rubbed his eyes. And glanced over my shoulder at the AR-15 and the holstered glock on my hip. "So that's why you have your AR-15 on you right now, huh. Are you sure this isn't PTSD from Iraq?"

"The fuck are saying? The only thing I'm going to get PTSD from is this fucking day, especially if I don't get past it. I'll be having PTSD attacks in hell."

I scratched my head and looked back up at him. "Why don't both of you hop in my truck and I'll show you that your doomsday prepping is really about to pay off."

He nodded. "Alright, let's go."
