--Carl's Perspective--
Mandi and I moved up right behind the main forces fighting against Orion's soldiers. We kept a close eye on the right side, she watched behind us, while I watched the front. "Can you tell me more about June and Amera? I wasn't paying attention that much during the debriefing." Mandi stated.
"Not paying attention during a time like that... I can tell you, but why?" I couldn't help but smile while asking.
"It's easier to do than explain... sometimes I just get distracted, but my concentration can be deadly!" She proudly said.
"Well, June uses a lot of shielding abilities, while Amera uses this weird weapon that acts like a boomerang. We should watch out for both. I think I could fight against June, but I'm not sure. I'm pretty limited with one hand and one eye." I admitted.
"Are you sure? Maybe we should work together?" Mandi suggested.
"No, the synergy between June and Amera would definitely kill us. We need to keep them separated as much as possible. I have a tactic for fighting June anyways." I told Mandi.
Just as we finished talking, I could see June and Amera running through the forest to reach our backs. Tavian was right!
"HEY! YOU TWO! I SEE YOU!" The soldiers marching in right behind us turned their heads at my shout to June and Amera. They remembered the plan and continued marching forward. Mandi and I slid down the side of the glacier to meet the two as they came out of the forest and onto a snowy field.
There were dead trees and rocks everywhere. "You got a sharp eye, kid. What's your name?" June asked me.
"It's Carl. That's Mandi." I told her, but June dismissively waved her hand.
"I don't care about her. I care more about you. Orion has really good vision too, you know. It's a shame I'll have to kill you. June stated.
"I guess the same could be said about you two. I never liked killing people anyways, but you two should surrender and make this easy." I told June and Amera. Amera sighed, but June stood silent.
"You should let me handle this, June. You should go keep Lily hidden from that Failure of a friend she has." Amera told her friend. I engaged by swinging my axe overhead and colliding with the metal on June's body. She looked shocked by how I engaged. I knew Amera would try to counterattack... but if I was right-
"Gah! You little bitch!" Amera yelled at Mandi, sliding back while holding a bleeding cut on her face.
"Your opponent is me. Don't focus on that hunk of metal, focus on me." Mandi's concentration was amazing. Her eyes narrowed down and the smile always stuck on her face had vanished.
"Sure. Don't yell and cry when I cut you into bits." Amera pulled out that weird weapon Tavian explained to us and threw it. From her left hand, a blade shot out of a gauntlet and she went to close the distance on Mandi.
I couldn't pay attention! I had to fight June! She swung her broad shield at me and it collided with my left arm. Since I didn't have a hand on that arm that could be broken, I stopped the shield mid-swing with my metallic replacement and stared at June. The moment she didn't instantly bust this prosthetic I had, the moment I stood a chance.
I couldn't draw this out, as the hand would eventually break, but I stood a better chance now.
June repeatedly swung her shield at me and I swung at it to put some resistance behind her hand. The one thing I have over June right now was that my hand wouldn't fall to fatigue. She couldn't hold that shield forever.
Using the metallic corner on the sharp edge of the axe, I grabbed onto the edge of her shield and pulled her closer, slamming the metallic hand into her face and causing her to stumble backward. She held her face, then uncovered it to reveal a smile.
"FINALLY! SOMEBODY JUST LIKE ME!" June ripped the shield off of her arm, yelling out in excitement. "YOU SHALL UNDERSTAND!"
The metallic pieces holding the shield to her arm all fell off like it was a puzzle piece and June threw it at me. The force of her throw pushed me back and crushed the middle finger on my right hand. I don't know how she hit only one, but it was instantly broken beyond belief. There's no way I could lose this hand too!
"You're starting to piss me off," I told her, charging in again. June started to charge in again to slam her shield into me.
June was a bigger woman, she stood tall and was thicker than most women I had seen, so I took advantage of that height and slid under her open legs. That's right... to brace for an impact, it's easier to secure your knees and tighten your muscles by opening your legs as she did. She was waiting for a strong attack but judging by the armor with no dents on her body, those attacks weren't coming for me.
She noticed what I was doing, but I had already attacked her back by swinging the axe upwards while sliding between her legs. By doing that, I struck a weak point in her elastic armor and chipped a piece off. There was a tight, black article of clothing underneath the part I chipped off.
My theory with June was that her armor was invincible, but she was not. If I slammed this axe into her over and over again, I would eventually bruise her enough or cause internal bleeding of some kind. Her weaponry seemed a lot less like a blessing, and more like a curse. With a weakness like that, I stood a chance now!
"Boy... you better watch yourself," June told me. She repositioned now, heaving in her heavy set of armor.
"It would be a lot easier if you would just willingly surrender, you know?! Just give up and we can leave unscathed, and you can be a part of our new world!" I told her.
"Long ago, Orion fell victim to people who preached the same thing. They killed his wife, left him without an adopted child, and ruined everything. Those people are the ones we want to kill, it's not that we want to murder all of you, but you stand in our path of exacting revenge on those who deserve it, so you are on their side." June explained to me.
"I'm sorry, but you need to understand there are more than just you and the bad guys. We woke up on this Isle almost three months ago and were attacked time after time by your forces." I told June.
"You were attacked because you didn't bow and listen as you should've. That's why all your friends are dead or will be dead." I scoffed at her attempt to get a reaction out of me.
"That's a weak attempt. I'm a better person than you, that may have worked on somebody with your mindset." I told her. "If we should've bowed and listened, then why are you fighting against people who would do the same thing? After all, everybody is the same." I asked June.
"Sorry, I'm a soldier, not a philosopher. My children deserve to live in a world without Nova." She told me.
