First battle (2)

From behind us, I could hear swearing, but I chose to ignore it.

As we ran through the halls, I could see that all of the people around us were ignoring us.

It was as if they couldn't see us at all.

That was most likely what the layer of silver energy around us was for.

This was how Yan Ling had been able to avoid all those people last time.

We quickly made our way through the halls of the school and then out the front.

Holding my hand, Yan Ling jumped over the wall and pulled me up with her.

We landed outside of the school grounds, but Yan Ling didn't stop as she rushed forward while still pulling me. The two of us quickly ran through the streets and in no time at all, we had crossed half the city.

We were even running faster than some of the cars that were on the road.

But since we were moving so quickly, it was hard on me since unlike being in a car, there was nothing that blocked the wind that came with running that fast.

Still, I was able to endure until Yan Ling suddenly stopped.

When she stopped, I noticed that we were standing in the middle of an abandoned factory.

I looked at her with a confused look as I asked, "What are we doing here?"

But before she answered, there was a noise that answered this question.

Katunk.

It was the sound of something falling to the ground, something that seemed to be made of metal.

When I turned to look in that direction, I found that it was a metal pipe that had fallen to the ground and it seemed like there was something crawling in that direction.

"Skitter, skitter."

It seemed as if it was something with many legs with the sound that it made as it crawled across the ground.

Then all of a sudden, as we were looking in that direction, there was something that came from behind us.

Yan Ling immediately raised her hand and there was a silver energy barrier that appeared around us.

This silver energy barrier stopped the thing that came at us.

As it stopped it, I was able to see just what had suddenly shot out at us.

It was a part of a centipede with all the legs that it should have. It seemed like the end part of the centipede that had shot out at us.

It was still even skittering as it was being blocked by the silver energy shield.

Yan Ling couldn't help revealing a look of disgust when she saw this, so she quickly gathered the silver energy in her hand to form a sword and she slashed out at the centipede.

But before she could reach it, the centipede suddenly went back into the darkness of this abandoned factory.

"Ge, ge, ge, it seems like the Qilin's Descendant is really impatient and dumb. Rushing into an obvious trap like this and even bringing someone along with you? Do you think that you're here to play?"

Yan Ling knitted her brows slightly when she heard this, but she didn't say anything in response.

She just had a focused look on her face, as if she was trying to find the source of this voice.

However, all that could be heard was the skittering of legs all around us.

The sound of these legs skittering was just too loud that it was hard to pinpoint where the voice was coming from. At the same time, it seemed like the skittering was coming from all around us, so there was no telling where it was moving.

All we could do was stay there in the center.

I knew that this was a bad situation for us, so I went closer to Yan Ling and whispered, "I'll distract him and you use that opening to…"

Before I could finish, Yan Ling suddenly jumped back with a soft scream.

I couldn't help being surprised by this, but I was surprised even more when she said…

"Not now, you can't give me this kind of reward now. We can do it after, but if you breathe on my ear like this now, it'll be hard for me to control myself."

My chin dropped when I heard this.

I never thought that Yan Ling would say something like this…

I had always thought that she was a stoic and calm person, but it seemed that this was just a facade…

I shook my head with a bitter smile before softly hitting Yan Ling on the head and saying, "Focus, we can talk about that kind of stuff later."

But I never expected her to say, "You stop it. You're giving me all of these rewards, how am I supposed to focus like this?"

I really didn't know what to say when I heard this.

At the very least, my previous image of Yan Ling had been completely shattered because of this.

I shook my head with a bitter smile again before saying, "Like I said, I'll go and distract him. You use that opening to find him and land a hit."

Yan Ling shook her head and was about to say something, but before she could, she suddenly turned around and raised her hand.

There was a silver barrier that appeared in front of her that blocked the attack that came from behind her.

It was the tail of the centipede just like before.

It had stabbed out at her with its venomous barbs, but it couldn't break through the barrier that Yan Ling had set up.

However, this wasn't all that happened.

There was a sound that came from above us and when I looked up, I found that there was another centipede tail that was falling towards me.

Yan Ling raised her hand, but it was already too late.

She wouldn't be able to form a barrier in time to stop it.

It seemed like I had been rash in coming along with her…

"Ah!"
