Kai got released earlier than he expected. Luke said to him multiple times that he shouldn't try to enter the dungeon or tell anyone about the footsteps.
"This might be big, and I don't want the students gossiping about. That might scare the people we are looking for," Luke said.
That was a fair point. Kai wanted to keep everything he knew a secret too, so for him it was easy to do what Luke asked.
The first thing he did after getting released was to walk through the academy's vast courtyard, seeing the flowers and the trees. For him, the cell itself and the treatment the guards gave him wasn't bad, but the problem was staying locked there. The feeling of being trapped was one of the worse for him.
Trevor was happy when Kai returned. "How's the investigation? Did you find anything?" he asked.
"We might have found something, but Luke isn't telling me all the details, and he wants me out of the investigation. You know, I am just a student," Kai said.
