Chapter 106

The moment Lucifer finds himself in the library, he decides he needs something to break. Breaking things always puts him in a better mood, and it certainly can't put him in a worse one.

With a swipe of his hand, he throws all the books off one of the bookshelves, scattering them around the floor. Just pointing at one causes it to spontaneously combust. He picks it up telekinetically and flings it at the bookshelf, enjoying the satisfying thud it creates.

K9 rolls into the room and looks over at him questioningly. "What happened here?"

Lucifer glares at him. With one quick movement, he kicks the dog across the room. He turns off before he hits the ground, though whether that's because Lucifer broke him or because he deactivated himself, Lucifer isn't sure, nor does he care. Unfortunately, K9 doesn't shatter as Lucifer had expected, so he goes to kick the thing again and again until it does.

Before he does, he hears a quiet voice in the doorway. "Uh, hey, Lucifer."

He turns around to see Charlie standing there, almost trying to hide behind the doorframe. She gives him a small smile, but it's very obviously fake. She seems terrified of him, and rightfully so. He's Lucifer, Prince of Darkness. She should be scared.

His eyes glow red, and with the flick of his hand, she's flung into the wall. She lets out a scream, and then disappears. Chuck shows up a moment later, looking pissed.

"What the hell?" Chuck demands.

"Right back at you!" Lucifer snaps.

"I know you're upset —"

"Yeah, that's an understatement," Lucifer interrupts. "For once in my entire goddamn life, I was genuinely happy, and then you and your big mouth had to come down here and screw it all up!"

"I didn't screw it —"

Lucifer's eyes flare red again, and this time, they don't return to their usual icy blue color. He pushes his hand forward, and Chuck flies into the wall behind him.

"The hell do you mean, you didn't?" he demands. "Everything was going fine until you had to give your two cents!"

Chuck tries not to show his surprise that Lucifer actually managed to push him into a wall. Apparently, rage is a hell of a motivator. Instead, he says calmly, "Lucifer, listen to me."

"I listened to you once this entire time I've been stuck here, and look how that turned out!" Lucifer takes a few steps toward him, until he's close enough that Chuck can't miss the intimidating height difference between them. "I'm done playing by your rules, Chuck. Every time I think I've found even some semblance of joy in life, you have to take it away, and I will not stand for that anymore. Do what you want to the rest of them, I don't care, but leave me out of it, or I swear, the second you let me out of here, I will take you down. I don't care if it takes the rest of the universe with you. Do you understand?"

Chuck just looks up at him for a few moments. Finally, he says, "You know, that would be a lot more scary if it were true, but trust me, Lucifer, that's not going to happen." He frees himself from Lucifer's telekinetic grasp. "You will do what I want, whether you want to or not. I'll make sure of it."

Chuck disappears, leaving Lucifer alone once more. He slams his foot into the wall Chuck had been pinned to, breaking a hole in it. He just wishes he could have broken a hole in Chuck instead.

He senses a presence nearby, one of the perks of being an archangel, and he recognizes it as Jo. He's not sure how long she's been here, but it's entirely possible she was eavesdropping on the whole conversation.

"I'll give you five seconds to walk away before I punch a hole through your stomach," Lucifer says loudly.

Instead of walking away, she walks into view, not seeming frightened, which is surprising.

"Where's Charlie?" she demands.

"Don't know, don't care."

"Bullshit," Jo snaps. "She was just here. What'd you do to her?"

"Take it up with Chuck," Lucifer says. "He took her, not me."

"Right," Jo says sarcastically. "The same way he took Jess and Kali?"

Lucifer's eyes glow red, and he's about to passive aggressively throw her into the ceiling, but he stops himself, taking a deep breath and calms himself down before saying, "I'm going to give you one more chance. You have ten seconds to walk away before I make you walk away."

"And when I'm still here when those ten seconds are up?" Jo asks.

Lucifer's eyes glow red. "Don't be."

"Ooh, I'm real scared," Jo deadpans.

Lucifer lift a hand, ready to snap. Jo looks between him and his hand, almost looking unphased, but Lucifer can see a hint of nervousness in her eyes. But, when it doesn't scare her away, he sighs, dropping his hand by his side."Can you just go?"

"Wait, that's it?" Jo cocks her head to the side, confused. "No force choke? No throwing me into a wall? Just 'go away'?"

"Yeah," Lucifer says. "That's it."

"But… why?"

Lucifer just shakes his head to himself, and, with a flap of his wings, he disappears.
