SUPERHERO GETS A GRANDPA SYSTEM

It's not so easy to make it as a superhero these days. In the golden age of heroes, it didn't matter what kind of ability you had. If you had an ability, dressed up in bright colors, and came up with a crazy name; you had it made. You were a hero. The world isn't so simple anymore. Kyle Kane is finding life as a teenage superhero to be worse than a pimple on prom night. Eliminated from his team and forced into normal classes, Kyle's F class powers have doomed him to harassment and mediocrity. Then one day, he gets a cranky message from a system. "I'm your system, congratulations, blah blah blah." Is this Kyle's chance or just another new way to be humiliated?

New Mission

Kyle was already in the Stellar Center for a week; which meant he had been training in Miras for over three weeks.

The first two weeks he spent reading relentlessly. It was strange because he found it got easier and easier to retain information.

Even though the information became increasingly complex; he was still able to read quickly, retain the information, and understand it.

He asked Gramps about it and was told it was because of the medicine Dr. Heller made him take. Kyle was confused because he didn't think that made any sense.

The medicine was improving his brain's processing and retention abilities. His IQ was swiftly increasing, but he took all of that medicine in his spirit body. Why was his real body affected?

"It's because the spirit body is acting as a container for medicine. When you return to your body, all of the medicine is released into your real body," Gramps told him.

"Okay, but that still doesn't explain why I had to take it in doses over three days. If my spirit body was acting as a transport for the medicine, why not give me one big dose right before I left?" Kyle had asked him.

"Look, kid, the whole thing is complex and you don't know enough to understand it yet, but I'll tell you this much.

The regular doses teach your spirit body how to deliver the medicine to your body in a way that it won't kill you," Gramps told him.

Kyle had more questions, but Gramps refused to explain anything else. He just told him that he would eventually understand it himself as long as he kept up his studies.

He just needed to accept that things worked, and the adults knew what they were doing. These were the leading experts in Star Tear Village.

Their knowledge was way beyond any analogous knowledge in his world.

*********

Lemonjello, Kyle's roommate, was curious about him. Even though they were roommates, he rarely got to talk with Kyle. Around 5:00 am Kyle would leave to start his day with a really tough exercise routine.

He knew he started each day with a really tough exercise routine because he saw him working out one morning. After eating some breakfast, he would head to Dr. Yu's mysterious building.

It wasn't until about 3:00 pm that Kyle would return and he always crash not even getting under the covers. Around 6:00 pm he would get up and eat dinner. Then he would conduct another round of the intense workout.

After this, he would come back and immediately go back to bed. Once Kyle was asleep, even World War III wouldn't wake him.

At first, Lemonjello tried to keep things quiet for Kyle, but he eventually got tired of not being able to use his room. He started having friends over to play games and he would blast the sound.

If it bothered Kyle, he never said anything. When morning came, Kyle would pop out of bed full of energy and start the day off once again.

Kyle was equally interested in his roommate. He never had a roommate and was only beginning to enjoy having friends thanks to his experiences in Miras.

His friends in Star Tear Village were very precious to him, especially Sif. He liked her a lot. He just didn't know how to interact with her.

He couldn't figure out if she was real or a spirit body like him. Gramps wouldn't tell him anything.

One of the interesting things about Lemonjello was his main power. He had a super-regenerative ability. The interesting thing about it was the more he was injured; the stronger he became.

Say, for example, he had an arm cut off by a sword; his arm would regrow but that sword would have a harder time chopping off his arm.

The strengthening effect didn't just apply to his arm, his whole body became stronger. Eventually, the sword wouldn't even be able to cut through his skin.

There were some interesting side effects of his power. As a result of his body becoming more resistant to injury, he started developing a certain level of invulnerability and super strength.

Most would find this power amazing, "Stick me in a blender!" They might be tempted to say. Unfortunately, Lemonjellow, like any sane person, didn't want to be stuck in a blender.

He didn't want to experience the pain it would require to get stronger. He had an amazing ability, but because of his fear of pain, he never trained it.

The reason he was at the center was to try and find a way to help him train his power while not forcing him to experience the pain required to become stronger.

Kyle could appreciate Lemonjello's fear of pain. He still felt if he bore with the pain instead of trying to escape it; he would benefit much more.

"No Pain No Gain," wasn't just the masochist's motto. It was an important idea that what you had needed to be earned.

People might think his system was like being a kid born with a silver spoon in his mouth. They would be wrong. Kyle knew exactly how much 'pain' he went through to get where he was.

The last three weeks were torturous, but it made him even more grateful for his accomplishments. He finally understood how soft he was and this helped him whine less.

It was early morning and Kyle headed to the Miras building; at least that's what he called Gramps' special building.

Gramps wasn't around, but Kyle knew how to operate the machine on his own. He programmed the settings and entered the machine.

When he arrived, he immediately changed into his white workout clothes, but still put on his cape and mask to keep his identity a secret from everyone.

When he arrived, he was surprised to see his four teachers standing there waiting for him. Kyle respectfully greeted his teachers.

"G-Hawk, you've been training with us for about three weeks. It's time to put your skills to the test. To grow faster, you need to have a real-life and death experience," Master Khanda said.

"We have two missions for you to accomplish over the next week," Lady Galgaba said.

"First, you must collect all of the materials on this list," Mr. Davenport handed a list of ingredients to Kyle.

"Mpphgrop makpkel," the muffled voice of Dr. Heller said.

"Turn your squawk box on," Mr. Davenport said.

<<Pardon me, Ky...G-Hawk, your second mission, is to deal with the growing Goblin problem.>> His electronic voice buzzed.

Kyle was really amused by the way his teachers were talking. He almost felt like he was on one of those reality shows, and he was about to face an elimination challenge.

"Goblins kill and steal from traveling merchants on their way to Star Tear Village. This costs us a lot of money, and it is a sad loss of life.

Fewer merchants are willing to travel here knowing how dangerous it is," Master Khanda said.

"We don't expect you to accomplish these missions on your own.

To help you accomplish your missions, two more students of our Star Tear Village Academy will come along to temper themselves with you," Lady Galgaba said.

As she spoke, she indicated to her left. Kyle watched as two people appeared out of thin air. Kyle was completely stunned.

"How is it them?!"

Here's the second chapter for today. Who do you think will go with him on the mission?
