Chapter 6

Just as he was about to turn around and leave, the woman suddenly turned back and ran towards him. He stared at her for a long time and said, "Why are you back again? Don't worry, I won't chase you this time, just run away."

Jennifer sniffled. She seemed to have caught a bit of a cold from the beer splash. She opened her own bag, pulled out the last 100 dollars, and shoved them into the man's hand. "That's all I have left. I'll pay you back what I owe you later. You give me a contact number." She didn't want to owe anyone, especially being a runaway guy; she would look down on herself.

"No!" He had just been talking to her. He didn't want to have any more dealings with this woman. "Just go away and keep what you owe me in mind." After saying that, the man handed her a hundred dollars and said directly, "I don't wish to see you again!"

"Huh?!" How could he say such words? This was a severe blow to her self-esteem. Jennifer shoved the money into the man's hand again, "I don't want to see you again either!" Making a face at the man, she turned around and quickly ran away.

The man stared at Jennifer until her figure disappeared into the night. He looked at the hundred dollars in his hand and wanted to throw it away. But with his raised hand, he couldn't let go and finally stuffed the hundred dollars into his pants pocket.

Arriving at his door, Jennifer hesitated for a long time whether he should go in or not. If she went in, she would be picked up tomorrow, and she didn't know where she would go, what kind of place the Andersons would be, and how that older man, her future husband, would mistreat her. She felt sick to her stomach. Pulling her hair with all her might, she screamed but took the keys out of her bag and opened the door.

The light in the living room was on, but her mom wasn't in the living room. Tomorrow, she would be leaving. Could it be that after her mom had money, she would no longer care about her as a daughter? Looking at her dad's picture on the wall, she cried, "Dad, why did you die so early? If you were here, Mom might not have sold me."

Dad died before she was even born. Mom had always told Jennifer that Dad was a mighty man. But, about the cause of Dad's death, Mom never mentioned it, and whenever she asked about Dad's death when she was little, there was always a lot of hate in Mom's eyes.

Hate for whom? She didn't know and didn't want to know. Hatred, she did not want to touch half. The light in her mom's room was already dimmed. Lost and uncomfortable, she could only go back to her room.

She couldn't get to sleep this night. The thought of her future being completely ruined made her feel like her heart was dying.

Grace knocked on Jennifer's door early in the morning. "Someone has come to pick you up. Pack your bags and go with them."

Jennifer cried. Didn't Mom even have anything to say? She opened the door, and all her mom said was something that broke her heart: "You put your makeup on in the car. It's rude to be seen like this, especially with the red bags under your eyes. It's best if you wear your eyes; it's better to cover a little bit of them."
