Chapter-X

Thunder rumbled and lightning struck, elucidating the ship a brilliant white. The buzz of electricity in the air added to the tension of the ship's crew as Cadence positioned the few water wielders onboard in equal spaces around the deck to provide the best possible coverage of the waves. The ship lurched and a resounding boom sounded through her ears. The rain was cutting through the gummy air and assaulting her already chilled skin into icicles.

The first surge of water was harsh. The next one even more so.

The wielders barely kept the ship from sinking from the continuous onslaught of waves.

The brewing storm was on their heads.

"Cadence!" Twyll yelled over the din of the waves and the rain. "Let me help you hard-headed fool!"

"No. MY JOB IS TO GET YOU TO SHORE SAFELY!"

Angered over his dismissal of her contribution and condescending tone, she swept her feet under his legs causing him to fall. Twyll quickly scrambled over him and struck the side of my hand against his pressure points rendering him unable to move.

"You bitch. What did you do?"

"It will wear off after a few minutes, but till then let me help."

"Fine." He bit out, clenching his teeth in frustration.

Taking a deep breath in, Twyll gathered her energy for the first strike. Element wielding was the easiest of all. Water was the simpler one. It needed clarity and calm. It was similar to lightning in the sense that it needed precision and poise.

She lifted her arms gathering the thrumming energy from her element crystal and then she threw it out in controlled shields of it.

She directed the waves away from the ship. Her focus was solely on the movement of the waves, her senses only hearing, smelling, feeling the tides and movement.

The ship had started gaining ground as the other wielders followed her example and focused on one wave at a time. Soon the shore came into the picture. She sighed in relief, but that momentary lapse in focus cost her. A large wave made for the area of the deck where only Twyll and two more wielders were present. Terror coated her insides as she barely managed to avoid the wave with a burst of adrenaline. Water wielding and adrenaline did not go hand in hand. She crashed to the deck as the ship almost turned. The water nicked the sides and splashed overboard as she was dragged in deep. Gathering the last dredges of calm from her body and mind she made a weak air bubble around her and spotted a silver form sinking deeper and deeper.

Cadence

Twyll thought.

She swam towards him when she heard a voice in her head.

Use you wielding to push him up girlie. And be quick about it.

The voice was sultry and hot. It was a woman's voice.

Pushing these thoughts to the back of her mind, she willed her breathing to settle and the coolness of the water to spread through her body. She imagined the pureness of the water invading her senses and lulling her energy to its former stores. Using the illusion in her mind she propelled Cadence put of the water. She felt the burning guilt of paralysing him and the blame for it. She knew that he could have escaped if she had not disabled his limbs and make him unable to move. As soon as she saw he had reached the surface two pairs of hands reached inside to pull him out.

Her vision darkened around the edges as water seeped into her bubble. The burning in her body became intense and her head felt like it was bursting. She slowly closed her eyes smiling that she was leaving at last. Leaving behind this life and beginning a new one somewhere else. A better place.

That was profound and philosophical. Now, would you like to cut the bullshit and come up for air?

Laughing inside her head she nodded in compliance as she propelled herself put. Immediately as she resurfaced she was pulled out and then she proceeded to cough put vile-smelling salty water out of her throat and lungs. She flopped onto the rocky sand and started up at the sky. She turned her head coming face to face with a pair of familiar sunset eyes.

"The Bastard Brother." She croaked out.

"I see my brother's big mouth has been at work." He started wryly.

"And how accurate it is!" The same sultry voice exclaimed. The one which she had heard in her head.

She turned her head to the other side.

"You are Bren Dearth. The Immortal." Bren made a delighted sound. "The Immortal. It makes me sound so mysterious."

"There Is as much mystery around you as a clownfish, Brenneth." The Young man taunted.

"Where's Cadence?"

"Here." Another voice croaked.

Laughing, Twyll closed her eyes and blacked out.

Trystan's eyes twinkled with an unknown emotion.

"She's a heck of a wielder. A little uncontrolled and wild, but remarkable still."

"She can wield all four elements. And it's natural." Cadence stated blankly. His voice is still rough from the saltwater.

"Vittu." (F*ck in English)

"She is possibly the Heir. The one that our father has been hunting his entire lives."

"And wants to eliminate," Trystan said in a deathly quiet tone.
