Fate Breaker

Waging war for peace.

Killing to survive.

'The system is but a reflection of the human's darkest nature, huh', Kaito thought, 'But I do not mind it'

Without wasting a second, Aki and Kaito nodded to each other. A string of chakra linking Kaito's hand and Jinx flickered, causing a huge cloud of transparent paralysis poison to surround the Konohagakure's team. In the meantime, Kaito had also casted a jutsu, the legacy of the Tanigakure Emi Clan [D], petrification gas.

Iruka reacted promptly and immediately tried to retreat from the ominous cloud, but to his surprise a wall of water erected in his path.

It was none other than Eiji's Suiton No Jutsu : Water Wall [D]

Although it was just a D-rank jutsu, it was very dense and without a proper jutsu to counter it, it was impossible to breakthrough.

Turning around, Iruka realized with a tinge of fear that they were surrounded by a terrifying tempest. Arya Akimichi, his teammate, immediately enlarged her hand and tried to punch through the wind tempest, but immediately winced in pain and countless cuts appeared on her flesh, crippling her arm in a matter of seconds.

*SPLASH*

Out of the four jutsu, Futon no Jutsu : Wind Tempest [C] was Aki's trump card and her signature move taught by the platoon leader Taki's daughter, a chunin. Adding to that the Kameyo Clan Fan [C] a chunin-level (C-rank) weapon raising her wind ninjutsu effects by 40%, this was a display of strength that far exceeded genin level.

"Akimichi or not, they will not be able to break through", Aki smirked, seeing the strength of her jutsu in action.

Even though they could not see through the opaque grey petrification cloud from the Emi Clan Hidden Art jutsu that Kaito had casted, the latter knew that it was having effects.

[Paralysis ailment is increasing]

[Petrification ailment has reached the target's lung...Vitality is decreasing by 8%...]

Inside the cloud, Iruka reacted promptly and distributed the best antidotes he had in hands, as Konohagakure had a long history of pharmaceutical prowess, mainly coming from their vast amount of medicinal herbs. In a way, Konoha was a counter to Sunagakure thanks to its medical achievements, a prowess that was proved times and times again with Tsunade Senju finding a new antidote in days to every new poison brewed by Chiyo, arguably the strongest puppeteer from the village.

However, no matter how many antidotes Iruka had in hands, he discovered that the effects were persisting, with shock.

"There is not just poison ! This is smoke !", he realized shouting, but this careless act caused him to breath in more petrification smoke, his skin starting to show signs of charring, his throat burning from the temperature. Looking around, Iruka realized that Mizuki, the least resilient of the group, had already fainted, saliva coming out of his mouth at a worrying speed.

'Is this the end?', Iruka thought, completely helpless in the situation

However, it was not the end, as Kaito had had the time to summon a new puppet of his, [Crow], the small aerial puppet which could rain down shuriken.

Iruka and Arya Akimichi's visions completely sealed off from the opaque Emi clan jutsu, they could not defend against this aerial attack of fire shuriken, taking them by surprise once more. This time around, Kaito was surprised as he heard a wave of notifications.

[You have killed [Mizuki - Lv. 22 Konoha Genin]. You have earned 430 EXP]

[You have killed [Arya Akimichi - Lv. 25 Konoha Genin]. You have earned 650 EXP]

[You have killed [Iruka Umoni - Lv. 28 Konoha Genin]. You have earned 800 EXP]

"They are dead", Kaito assured with a bit of surprise showing on his face, not expecting their combination attack to work so well and taking out one of the strongest teams of Konoha like that. He only planned to take out Arya or Mizuki in this ambush, but it seemed like he had overestimated their capacity.

He really only planned to kill Mizuki at first, which would have been enough to change Iruka's fate and perception of the shinobi world. As an unwise man once said, he had to experience Pain. But...It seemed like he had achieved a much bigger shift of fate by cutting its future altogether.

Iruka was not weak by any means. The fact that he was evaluated as a Lv. 28 Genin showed that he had already surpassed the standards of elite genins and stepped into the realm of chunin. Though the title had not been given to him yet, he should have received it in this exam, that is, if he had not been defeated so easily.

After all, Konoha was not a warring state like Sunagakure. Because of Suna's poor relations with the wind damyo for the past four years, shinobi of the wind were forced to take out the most difficult and dangerous missions, the easy and rewarding ones taken by Konoha nins.

While it dealt a huge blow to Suna and its inhabitants in terms of economy, shinobi who survived this period of hell were given an opportunity to accumulate experience and battle insights beyond what the average nin could hope to get. Team 146 from the Sungakure Genin Corps, third platoon, was the epitome of this sacrificed generation, one that had risen from these ordeals.

[You have completed the quest [Fate Breaker - B-rank]. You have earned 20 000 EXP. You have earned 30 points of reputation with Sungakure. You have earned the S-rank artefact [Ring of fate]. Your existence grows stronger. Fate is changing. Oracles are disturbed. Sages' sights are lessening...]

Waves of notifications popped in front of Kaito, but he focused on two things.

[You have levelled up]

[You have reached Lv. 28. Your chakra has risen by 3 points. Your existence grows stronger...]

[Ring of Fate - S-rank Ring Artefact

An item which should not belong to this world, yet appeared in your hands. Rumors have it can aid someone shift his fate by growing his talent.

Effects : Proficiency rises 100% faster]

Proficiency was the mastery of a skill. By increasing the speed of proficiency by 100%, this item basically had the power to double someone's talent. It did not take long for Kaito to blink in shock. For the past few years, he had been working harder than anyone else, pushing his team to do so as well, and only after years he finally managed to overcome the genin barrier that seemed so huge.

Yet, he knew for a fact that in the grand scheme of things, team 146 did not amount to much. In a real war, they would be easily killed if they encountered the path of an experienced jonin.

However, this item could change everything...

It changed the core of what prevented him from becoming truly strong : talent.

Kaito was not the only one who was happy about this spoil of war, as Eiji quickly exclaimed: "Huh? I think I just found a scroll of Konoha shurikenjutsu! I think it will complement my kenjutsu a lot when I am not fighting in close combat!"

Inspecting the scroll in more details, Kaito felt like he would faint:

[Konohagakure Ryuji Shurikenjutsu Scroll - C-rank]

It might just be a chunin-level scroll, but the fact that it was associated with a clan meant that it was surely a very valuable technique.

'How the hell did Mizuki came into possession of such a scroll...', he wondered.
