The Kings World

Wait a second. Did I hear that correctly? Did she just say she is my 'mother'? But that do not make any sense, my mother died a few years ago. She can't be serious, is she? 

"Fufufu~ I'm sorry little one. I just jest! You should look at your face earlier. It's so cute and hilarious!" 

The Goddess laughed. Did she just make a jest? What kind of jest is that?? I almost had a heart attack, you know. I sighed. But deep inside me I believe it. Probably, I still missed them. Although it is just a jest, I hope she is. 

"My apologies, my dear servant and Shinichi. I just want to light up the mood before the ritual. Hopefully, you two can forgive me." 

Asariel scoffed and said; "Huh?? Do you think I will forgive-" But I cut her speech before she finished her line. "It's okay, Goddess. I will forgive you." 

"What?? Shinichi! She makes fun of your late mother! You can just easily forgive her!" Asariel stepped in front of me with a pissed face. She got mad on behalf of me, huh? I smiled. How kind of her. 

I put my hand on her head and stroked it. 

"Listen, Asariel. I know why you mad. But it was just a jest. I know it's not well to make a fun of the death, but I am okay with it. All my friends also accidentally do it too. Besides, we can't always hold on to the past right? The strongest person is the person who is capable of forgiving. That's what I just realized by now. Forgive and let it go. Two different words but carried the same goal." 

Asariel became silent. She just stood in front of me and let me stroke her head. Suddenly she stepped forward and leaned on my shoulder. I am a bit surprised by her gesture. But for some reason, I can feel her feelings. Sadness and loneliness. 

I smile and hug her nonchalantly. Goddess silently watching our interaction. Her face slightly blushed as she smiled. Like a girl reading shojo manga (comic for girls). The Goddess was still watching us and grinning from ear to ear. 

Suddenly, Asariel wrapped my waist gently. Even, serious person can be this fragile. Maybe she is not the kind of person I thought. To be honest, seeing her soft side is so lucky! 

"Naive..." she started sobbing. 

"Ah..." 

"No. Don't say anything. You are too kind, too naive. Also, a pervert" 

Oof, straight to the point huh? I can accept that I am naive. But pervert? That's a whole another level of acceptance. 

Asariel pulled her away from the hug and returned to her normal self. The Goddess also sees the changes of scenery and goes back to her normal self too. 

"Ahem. Without further ado, let me brief you a bit about this world." 

A few hours of long explanation, this is what I can get. First, the world I was summoned to is called "The Kings". According to the Goddess, The Kings are the world that was created for entertainment for the 'Council'. 

The Kings were created for one reason, which is "Ranking". The law is simple. In The Kings's world, there are seven major kingdoms. These kingdoms have a one king or leader. Each kingdom has seven to ten countries under one ruler. 

Meanwhile, me, or 'Player' has been chosen to be the 'KING'. In others word, a massive multiplayer chess board. It was amusing and boring at the same time. The rules of the 'game' are simple. 

Each king has their own kingdom and subject. King needs to maintain his subject's morale, or they will flee to the next kingdom. Each king also has very high privilege upon his subject. Every year, each kingdom declares war on each other. The winners will get the countries based on pointer and expand their land. King who lost all his subjects or countries will be down rank. And the kingdom who gets last subject will be 'eliminated' by the Council. 

That's it. And I don't like it at all! I thought I just be a king and do what I want, but no! Suddenly I joined a death battle in this world! To make it worse, the people in that world never realize that they are chess pieces. It is just how the setting of the world is. 

"So, what do you think, dear Shinichi? Do you still want to get summoned to another world?" The Goddess asked. 

"Shinichi, this is your last chance. After this, I-we will erase your memory" continue Asariel. 

I take a breath to calm myself for a second and think. I stood silent while closing my eyes and put my finger on my chin. For some reason, it's a good deal but also a deadly deal. After a few minutes, swimming in my deep thoughts, I opened my eyes. 

With a confident smile and determined eyes. I spoke; 

"I will take the offer. I will dive into another world!"
