Student Union

"Yes?"

Jiang Shen looked up from her notes.

"Oh hey, never thought i'd see you so soon."

Qing Yao, dressed neatly in his uniform, set down a form and said, "Advisor Pei asked me to give this to you."

"What's this?"

Jiang Shen picked up the paper.

"The form for joining the student union."

Qing Yao swept his gaze among the students, to which he met with a sharp gaze from a handsome young man, prompting him to frown.

"You want me to join?"

Although she did help out a lot at the student union, it shouldn't matter as she had done it out of her own accord. Besides, Advisor Pei should know that as a Liberal Arts Teacher, the amount of paperwork they had to do was huge.

Qing Yao nodded and retracted his gaze to look at Jiang Shen. He crossed his arms and said, "You can talk to Advisor Pei if you want to know more. All I know is that I was tasked to give this form to you."

Jiang Shen frowned. The responsibilities of being a student union member was no joke. If she joined, she would no longer have time to hang out after school.

"Excuse me for a moment."

Jiang Shen stood up and approached their class monitor. Then she hurried back to pick up the form and said, "Take me to Advisor Pei. Don't worry, I already got permission from the class monitor."

Qing Yao nodded and left the classroom with her. They disregarded the gazes and whispers thrown towards them as they briskly left to head towards the administration building.

Advisor Pei was waiting in the student union room dressed in a shirt and slacks, sitting on a swivel chair with his feet up on the desk. When the two of them arrived he sat up straight then said, "Ah, just the person I was looking for."

Jiang Shen looked confused.

"What's the matter, Advisor Pei?"

"Did Qing Yao already tell you?"

"He did."

She nodded as she took a seat in front of him.

"But why do you want me to join? Wouldn't that violate the handbook?"

The handbook was the holy book of Hua Institute that contained every single rule and regulations to follow. Advisor Pei, a tall man in his forties, was famous for finding the handbook's loopholes.

In Jiang Shen's eyes it would be easy for her to join, but why did they want to? And so late into the semester.

"Here's the thing."

Advisor Pei pulled out a folder from his drawer.

"Do you remember Ping Lao? The public relations officer in charge of the Institute's activities?"

Jiang Shen took the folder and checked the files, then replied, "She's a Year Two student in the STEM department, right? Did she back out of the position?"

"No."

Advisor Pei massage his temples.

"She's been expelled, the cause is cheating. I heard she's been helping the other students learn to cheat the coming exams."

Jiang Shen frowned. In all her years in Hua Institute, she had never seen someone so bold at breaking the rules. She glanced at Qing Yao and said, "Did you know about this?"

He nodded.

"It happened just last week when the teacher saw them exchanging papers during a quiz."

"Which is why we need a new public relations officer!"

Advisor Pei banged on the desk with his fist, agitated by the sudden vacancy.

He then looked at Jiang Shen and said, "And that's why I invited you here. If you had just answered the form then all is said and done with but I know you. So I asked Qing Yao to call you over."

Out of all the candidates that were chosen for the vacant position of the student union, they were no lack of talent and potential to let them thrive and handle the heavy load.

But what they needed was someone who already has the experience to tackle such a position. They had no time to train a newbie since the exams were coming.

After exams ended, there was supposed to be an event held at the Zen for all the students. Similar to a talent showcase, all of the clubs would present their skills and encourage students to join their club.

Clubs in Hua Institute were not mandatory and since the last seniors had left, clubs needed freshmen to keep their clubs alive.

"So, will you accept?"

Advisor Pei wouldn't force her to join but it would be better if she did. And as if sensing her doubts he hurriedly added, "You don't need to stay in the position for long! Just until the aftermath has ended will we find someone to replace you."

Qing Yao, who was more or less a semi-member of the student union (Advisor Pei treasured his talent so he assigned him to be the Financial Secretary's helper), nodded.

Jiang Shen didn't want to let anybody down and seeing as she won't have to deal with her grandfather until then, nodded and said, "But only until the semester ends!"

Advisor Pei nodded and shook her hand.

"It's a pleasure to have you join us."

"The pleasure is all mine."

News traveled fast and soon word of mouth spread of her joining the student union. When classes had ended and it was time to go home, Yang Mu approached her desk and said, "I heard you joined the student union?"

Jiang Shen smiled.

"I'm surprised news travels this fast."

"It's because you're popular."

"What? That's ridiculous."

Jiang Shen laughed it off and grabbed her bag.

"He's right you know," Shi Fen spoke behind her.

Jiang Shen rolled her eyes.

"It's just because of Qing Yao. He's the famous one."

Yang Mu had a perplexed look on his face as the three of them walked out of the classroom. He glanced at her and said, "Who is Qing Yao?"

He hadn't joined the student union yet and so was not aware of the leading figures in school. While he himself was a popular one in school, Yang Mu adjusted well to his status and his reputation spread for being kind.

"You don't know?"

Shi Fen looked at him incredulously.

"He's the genius from the STEM department. The guy who scores super well on his tests anddddddd," he looked around to seen if anyone was snooping before whispering, "has an ambiguous relationship with this girl."

Jiang Shen hit him and said, "We don't have an ambiguous relationship. We're friends, okay?"

"Why do people like hitting me!"

Shi Fen rubbed his shoulder. If his body wasn't resilient, he reckoned that it would've full of bruises by now.

Yang Mu found it a little hard to accept her words. Although she said that they were friends, he managed to catch the small smile on her lips and the slight blush on her cheeks.
