3.

Kian Grand messaged me. Oh my word. What do I do? What do I say? I'm freaking out! I could close my laptop and go to sleep, but I really want to know what he said. I open it, seeing that he's typing.

Kian - No recent pictures of yourself, huh?

I stare at his message. I really don't have pictures of myself. I prefer uploading content of nature or the beach, animals or buildings. Just about anything. Anything but myself. My fingers hover over my keyboard when I see that he's no longer typing.

Me - yeah, I prefer not to :\

Kian - Don't apologize. your page looks really amazing.

Me - Thanks!

Me - Happy birthday!! <3

Kian - Thank you!! Are you a photographer?

Me - Oh, no, I wish I were. But I don't even own a camera.

Kian -Oh? then your phone has great quality.

Me - lol, thanks. your man-buns look hilarious.

Kian - ah, yes, I could rival Chris Hemsworth B)

Me - and you'd win by a longggg shot ^^

Kian - Mind telling me more about yourself? :)

I look at the time at the bottom of my screen. It's almost one in the morning. Today is Friday and I unwillingly have to show up at school soon. I don't want to attend extra classes after school to get my records straight again.

Me - maybe tmrw. I have to go to bed

Oh, trust me to ruin the moment. I have a PhD in that field.

Kian - before you go, how old are you?

Me - 17y/o

Kian - and where do you live?

Me - England, you?

Kian - New York. I don't want to be the reason you fall asleep during your lessons tomorrow. Good night XD.

Me - Good night

And with that I close all my other open tabs. I am about to close Instagram when I see that he's typing.

Kian - it's 18:54 this side :-/

Me - Then keep it till your bedtime, yeah?

Kian - Alright. This isn't goodbye

I release a strangled scream. I wasn't expecting him to want to continue talking to me.

Me - No, it doesn't have to be.

I click send and before he can respond, I close the tab and shut down my laptop. I plug my phone in the charging socket next to my bed and switch the lights off. I guess he isn't so bad after all.

As I am about to sleep, something that I should have realised from the start hits me. I, Kira Gonzales just spoke to a guy. Yes, I do speak to tons of guys on a daily, but this was far from the usual, typical 'can-I-have-an-extra-pen-but-not-really-a-pen-I'm-trying-to-get-in-your-pants' talk I have with guys. This was a short, simple, casual conversation.

Kian's POV

The morning bell rang, marking the start of yet another school day. Most learners are making their way into the school doors now only. Ryan De Mont, Miguel Gibbler and I are walking out from the recreational hall. We played table tennis today, and of course I beat Miguel's ass 7-4. I pull out my phone again.

"Waiting for a phone call?" Ryan asks me as we take our seats in the 10 o'clock class - Advanced Maths 1004.

"Nah, just checking the time," I lie as I put it aside.

The class fills in with filthy rich kids. Their parents range from being ministers, lawyers, astronauts, scientists to marine biologists, ornithologists and large-scale business men and women. The teacher walks in shortly after and the class falls silent. I look at my phone again, sighing as I put it on silent as the class commences.

"Did you do your homework, Mr Grand?" Mrs Lu asks me. A few heads turn to look at me. I clear my throat discreetly.

"Yes, ma'am. If you'll give me a sec, I can find it," I say as I start looking through my binder. I find the paper, release a relieved breath because for a second there I thought I didn't pack it. Then I get up and walk to the front to hand it in. She always chooses a student at random to check their homework, and I guess today was my lucky day.

"Here," I hand it to her and she smiles at me.

"Mind doing the following equations in the meantime?" she says as she starts marking. This is so that the other students can mark theirs according to what I did. I suck my teeth when I face the board and it was at that moment that I knew I should have spent more time practising last night. I take the black marker nevertheless, and start solving the equations.

"I have finished," I turn to her after a while.

Great," she hands me my homework back. "Perfect performance, as always."

I smirk and step aside. I notice Ryan trying to get in my phone, that cocky idiot. His eyes meet mine and he smirks, reluctantly setting it down where I'd left it. "Excellent," Mrs Lu announces after verifying my answers with her memo.

"Still your favourite student?" I whisper as I walk back to my desk.

"I'd be doomed if you weren't," she replies, shaking her head.

I take my seat again at the back of the class and check my phone again. It's 10:12. That means it's 3p.m. in England. I discreetly unlock my phone and open the chat at the top of my list.

Me - My teacher said I'm the best student she's ever had and that my face blesses her every morning

A small smile creeps up and forms on my lips as I await her response. Miguel nudges my shoulder and I look at him, his eyebrows raised as he looks at my phone on the table.

"Who got you smiling like that?" he wriggles his eyebrows.

"No one," I shrug, facing the board.

"Oh, please. Don't even think we didn't notice you checking your phone every two seconds," Ryan whispers.

"And so? It's mine, so I don't need a reason."

"Pass me your phone," Ryan says, his hand outstretched towards me.

"No," my voice comes out a little high, causing some girls to look at us. I ignore them as I put my phone in my jean's pocket. They look at each other and smirk knowingly. Luckily for me, my phone vibrates in my pocket. I pull it out and read the text from under the desk.

Kira - no she didn't

I smile as I reread the response. Miguel and Ryan are distractedly talking to some blondes.

Me - okay fine, she only said i did well on the homework

Kira - did you copy the answers off the net?

Me - *gasp* I'd never!

Me - Are your classes done?

Kira - yes, I'm in the library trying to study.

Me - subject?

I feel like someone's burning holes in my skull. I look up and meet Ryan and Miguel's eyes staring at me with big goofy grins.

"Guys," I say, rubbing my temples.

"Who you textin'?" Ryan teases. Miguel gives me a swift glance before grabbing my phone. I try to snatch it back from him but he leans to the side and smiles as he scrolls. Fucking bastard. Ryan tilts his head to the side and reads too.

"Hm, an English girl, huh?" Ryan sniggers as Miguel hands me back my phone. The bell rings, lucky for them.

"I'm just talking to her," I correct them as we get up.

"Does she have a boyfriend?" Miguel asks.

"No," I say, creasing my forehead as I realise I actually do not know that for sure.

"This her page?" Miguel asks as he shows me his screen. My face falls.

"How on earth did you find her?"

"She's the last person you followed, see?" he says, showing me the people I followed recently. And sure enough, her name is the first on the list.

"What do you think you're doing?" I hiss at him when he follows her too. Then my eyes lift up and I see her. Strutting slowly from the Economics class. She flips her blonde hair to the side and waves at other students in the hallway. Everything about her is superficial and it's nauseating.
