Prologue

As frost purged through the air of an ebony night. A woman, with tattered clothing, ran through the thick wilderness. A long shot from a firearm was heard causing her to flinch as she fell to the ground making an impact on her shoulder.

Hissing a deep breath in. She sat up against a tree nearby as she heard the group of men failed to notice her. "She went this way! The tracks are still fresh!!" Boasted the men as they ran past her with nets and torches at hand. Thunder broke the sky as rain threatened to fall now.

Having no more place to run, a frosty breath escaped her lips as she felt something move inside a poach she had forgotten about. Hurriedly she opened a bit to see the face of her newborn child whimpering weakly.

With a soft touch, she warmly let some tears out as she combined the small hair her child possessed.

"Don't worry, I'll get you somewhere safe… even if it costs my life my little beast."

With great hesitation. She gave her baby one last kiss inbetween his eyes as tears draped his face. She placed her sleeping child in a rabbit den she managed to find as she placed a bush over it. With a long sorrowful whimper. She got back up as she began her limp away from the spot she hid her kin.

It wasn't long till she could see the mob had locked on her position and surrounded her. With a few tries, they managed to throw nets on her as they were instructed to not hurt the "property" as they dragged her away. Fortunately, they didn't notice she had been expecting or had hid her kin.

With a sad smile she looked afar as she was taken away in the direction of where her child must have been.

"You will be safe now… my little beast…"

The dark clouds finally began to let rain fall as they cried with a separation of a child from their mother. The air thickened as rain turned to snow as everything turned white.

"Ohh, what bad timing for a night stroll.. I was hopping it would not snow tonight.."

A middle aged woman grumbled as she past the outskirts of the forest near her hometown. She decided it was better to turn back and start heading home. When a distant cry caught her attention.

"A baby?.. no, it can't be. Such small thing would not be here out in the cold.. " Ignoring the cry, she began to walk back until she heard another cry. She slowly came to a stop as she felt anxiety and guilt build inside her. "What if it is a baby? What if it's alone.. abandoned.. it wouldn't hurt to go check Beth.." she finally came to a conclusion as she argued with herself as she marched into the woods.

The cries began growing weaker as Beth began to quicken her pace as she knew the cold was starting to affect the baby. She can't let this child die in this cold.

Finally, she arrived at a bush as she heard the wailing softly cry for it's mother. She moved the bush as she saw a new born child in a den with rosey red cheeks and nose. The child opened his eyes as black orbs filled with tears stared at her blurry silhouette. Beth hurriedly picked up the child as she carefully stuffed him into her clothes to warm the little thing up.

She shushed the child on instincts as she bounced him softly to calm him down. She looked up now to look around for any traces of where his mother could have gone. "Oh.. you poor thing, don't cry now. I'm here, surely we will find your mother soon." As she began her walk out of the forest. Beth was stopped by a man who startled her.

"May I help you?" Beth questioned as she shielded the baby in her jacket away from the man. Snow began to build up on her hair as she waited for a response. "Sorry lady, but I need to ask why a granny like you is walking in the woods at night.. " he leaned over as he caught a glimpse of the baby's midnight blue hair as Beth quickly pulled up the vest to cover his view.

Angered, Beth took the opportunity to throw him off. She knew this man was looking for something.. and that something gave her the nasty feeling that it was the baby in her arms. "Who do you think you are calling a 'granny'?! I'm 37 and I just so happened to want to take a stroll with my son. I knew I should have brought my husband along if I knew I would encounter a scoundrel brat!!" With this she huffed a big cold breath as she marched past him. Shaking with fear she dared not look back as she knew she would be found out if there eyes met again. She was a terrible liar, but she would do anything to protect this little thing from that bad man.

"Don't worry… I'll be your new mother from now on if we can't find yours.. you are not alone anymore."

Snow quickly began to feel like warm dewdrops as those words spoken with love reflected back at her feeling a strange sense of soothing warmth as she led them back to her cabin. Where she lived alone after loosing her husband in a 'incident' of demuns who have invaded the woods.

Not aware, the child she had saved that night. Was the only 'demun' child born with the appearance of a human… Finally…

•••

The world of today was something similar to anyone from the present. But one thing that was "not" made public knowledge was the rise of deumuns…

Demuns where a special breed of hybrid humans that possessed the strength of a tiger, the snout of a bear, and the stamina of a wolf. They would almost go unnoticed if it wasn't for their appearance. A full grown demun male was said to sport horns on his head with elongated claw like fingers. Almost appearing like a "demon". While the females where more petit and had characteristics of small bulb like horns and sharp fangs instead of claws.

They lived in secret like a village on a island till the 1800 when they were captured and sold like property. They would be tamed and trained to become guard dogs, or entertainment for the wealthy in underground societies. The rich made sure to never let one grow knowledge beyond a 3 year old as they domesticated them as pets.

This was mostly for fear of them rebelling and killing their masters…

Their nightmares would come true as a male grew more confident then the rest becoming their "alpha". In one night, over 55 men were reported to have been killed by 10 demuns that had broken out of their cages. One of them being Beth's husband who was hired as a security at the gates of the facility. Sadly, all those demuns had been put down as they captured the alpha to execute infront of the rest that whimpered underneath them. With the alphas last words, made the rich realize… this would not end tonight.

"My child shall come for your necks one-day.."

With a sinister howl. He was shot in the head as the members quickly searched for any offsprings or mates the alpha had mated with. That's when they found out that a female had managed to escape in the confusion as they brought her back empty handed.

It was too late,

'that' child was free and would be coming back to kill them all…
