Substitute Luna

"Genova is missing!" Sally yells so hard that she doesn't need a gong and a trumpet to make this announcement. These three words and audible gasps of shock from the workers outside put us all in panic. "How did you know?" Damon lets go of her, and she goes crashing on the floor due to her ill-judged movement. "She dumped the wedding dress inside a bathtub full of water, and I've spent over an hour searching everywhere for her," My stomach squeezes and tightens into knots, as I try to properly align the words I just heard. "Can it be that she eloped with an old lover?"  "Did she possibly develop a tad of cold feet before the wedding?" "Aside from smoking which of course is a bad habit, Genova is a nice girl. Alpha Cahill might be abusive because of his alleged monstrous nature," "Fucking worse timing of the century, isn't it?" Several uncertain questions are flying in the air, until my mother, Meredith Rose, slams her fist against the table in front of everyone, startling us all and gaining silence almost immediately  "Enough!" She bellows, her veins bulging out along her neck in exasperation. "We've got to figure out a way out of this, Or Alpha Cahill will shred us into pieces. The loans we are owing, your father's uncleared debts after his death. My fucking god, I can't believe Genova will do this to us," mom facepalms in distress, tapping her feet against the floor in frustration. "Let's go find her, it might be she's homesick already and wants some time alone," Archibald suggests, while he's being stopped by Sally with a raise of the hand. "Few of the workers formed a search party and one came with the news of someone seeing a tomboy who bears a striking resemblance to Genova, running away with a man." Sally points this out, and all three of my brothers exchange knowing looks, with their lips thinning. "Jack Snyder," they chorus and I gasp. I cannot believe she's ran away with that psycho ex of hers. Who in their right state of mind will ditch her own wedding with Alpha Cahill and run away with a man who's lost all sanity? My mom who has been silent all these while suddenly shivers-jolts, her eyes sparkling with certainty, then she points at me, the youngest Brewer sibling.  "You, Mathilda...you will have to take the place of your sister to marry Alpha Cahill." *** Mathilda's life changes when her elder sister runs away on her wedding day and she's being persuaded by her mother and brothers to protect them from an impending wicked fate until she reluctantly agrees to marry Alpha Cahill. Will she be able to cope with Alpha Cahill who doesn't regard her in any aspect, but is enraged and wouldn't let her go while he's in search of her elder sister? Mathilda

The car pulls up in front of the Nolan's mansion, and Alpha Cahill hops out at first.

So this is it? I mutter to myself inwardly, then take a hard hurtful gulp, with my legs shivering because I will have to live with Alpha Cahill from now on.

The thought of sharing the same bedroom with him, send chills down my spine. Because he's rightfully my sister's husband and not mine.

Will he touch me? This question is tugging deep inside of me and making me sick already.

I swear to the Moon Goddess and the Sun God, that I will faint if he attempts to touch me tonight. I know that newly Weds do have sex on their night together.

I am being interrupted from my thoughts when Simone, Alpha Cahill's Beta, opens the door for me, and I am being helped out by the maidservants who were already waiting for me.

"Welcome, Luna," they all chorus, giving me courtesies.

The word 'Luna' is ringing in my head because this does feel like a dream.

Truly, I am the Luna of the Blackwood pack right now and will be respected wherever I go.

I give the maidservants a firm nod, with my throat tightening from several emotions.

Thankfully they don't behave weirdly because it's Genova who is supposed to be here and not me. They must've heard the news of the Alpha's supposed bride who ran away with an ex-lover of hers before the wedding could even start.

Alpha Cahill's threat is still looming over my mind and I am too scared to even utter a word. He's threatened to kill me and my family if I choose to walk away. According to him, we've already exchanged vows and I cannot take them back. Which means he's truly my husband now. Like we're locked together both in the realm of wolves and physically.

Even if Genova Brewer comes back.

All thanks to her for making my life hell.

She's so selfish that she couldn't even think about her mother, about our family before running away with Jack Snyder. It's obvious he's more important to her than us.

The rest of the cars arrive, and in no time, we're heading towards the entrance of the building where several armed guards are standing in front and guarding the doors. They have several armed weapons with them, even though they can shift into wolves and kill off an enemy who threatens to attack.

I have never been to the Nolan's mansion before. This is my first time, and despite that my heart is sick, I can't help admiring the fountain that has the giant statue of a wolf, with fresh clean water gushing out of its mouth.

The Nolan's mansion is considered to be one of the largest in the East, the four-story mighty building can house over a thousand wolves.

I swallow hard, as I place one shaky foot after the other, walking towards Alpha Cahill who doesn't even cast a backward glance at me as he takes long confident strides, with his Beta trying hard to walk faster, because each step Alpha Cahill has to take, Simone has to take two. Alpha Cahill is taller, close to six foot five.

The guards are staring at me in shock because it's my sister they know and not me. It seems they're just figuring out that I took the place of my sister and married Alpha Cahill.

The mighty doors give out loud noises as a tall suited man pulls them open, putting the entrance of the mansion on full display.

Marble spotless floors, expensive-looking lamps, and huge chandeliers hung on the cover ceiling.

The giant stairs are designed like two mermaids getting intimate, and the walls are designed with several paintings, where a remote can be popped, and it will bring in a new view of the wall.

Alpha Cahill is a billionaire, and no doubt this mansion costs a fortune. He didn't even inherit the castle his dad left for him, the castle I was used to because my family did attend the Annual Blackwood ceremony once a year.

Alpha Cahill built this mansion himself, which is far better with modern designs and technology. Unlike his father's castle.

"Let me walk with my luna." Alpha Cahill suddenly says, putting a halt to everything.

He leaves his Beta and comes towards my side, then grabs hold of my hand.

My heart is pounding violently in my ears, and I can hear the sound of it in my ears.

He's so close that I can smell his cologne, and I can't help reminiscing about the warning he gave to me back in the car.

And as we head to God knows where I have no idea if we're going to his chambers or somewhere different.

"Prepare the Luna's chamber at the West wing," he commands authoritatively.

"Not your chambers, Alpha Cahill?" A man asks with uncertainty.

Alpha Cahill leaves my hand, then takes two-step toward the man who seems to be the head butler here.

Cahill is so tall and intimidating, with his height towering the man who has fear building in his eyes.

"Gibson?" Cahill calls out dangerously low, and it feels as though he wants to give a warning.

"Alpha?" Gibson answers with a gulp, sagging his head down. I'll bet he now regrets having to speak up in the first place.

"Do as I say, if you don't want your head on a spike," Cahill says through gritted teeth and a cold shiver travels down my spine.

"As you wish, Alpha," the frightened man replies then immediately hurries away.

Biting down on my bottom lip, I hold captive my inhale because I am too scared at this point. I have no idea if Cahill is acting this way because he's agitated, or if he's always been this way.

My second brother, Archibald Brewer said there are rumors about Cahill having a monstrous nature. And just the thought of Cahill killing people because they were reluctant in obeying him, stirs up an instant migraine.

I don't want to be married to a monster, but I have no choice either way. I do not want the members of my family to die. I might hate them for putting me in this position, but they're still my family.

The maidservants usher me into my chambers, but I made the decision to stand in the hallway, scared my heart will shatter into pieces because this is where I will stay from now on. A place that should've been Genova's.

And I can hear Cahill and his Beta standing half a yard away from my chambers, discussing.

"How do you feel about this?" Simone asks with concern. I can tell he's loyal to the bone to Cahill and seems very concerned about him.

"I don't fucking know. I just want to crush the head of someone. That fucking guy who ran away with Genova precisely." Cahill forks his fingers through his head and pulls it roughly as he paces back and forth in frustration and anger.

"What do you intend to do? Now that you're married to the youngest Brewer sibling who's still very young and in her late teens?" Simone asks Cahill, openly staring at me. He doesn't even bother to tone his voice down on seeing me eavesdropping, "will you mark her and make her rightfully yours now that you're both married? Remember she's mated to another." He says this to Cahill, but his eyes are still on me.

"Like I give a flying fuck. She'll have to reject her mate in front of us all at the pack's council hall, except she wants her family to suffer the cruel fate of death," with that, Cahill drinks directly from stainless steel that was handed to him a few minutes ago.

His words tighten my heart in my chest.

"You have no feelings for the girl, will you be able to cope with having the youngest Brewer sibling as your Luna?" Simone asks, shifting his gaze to Cahill this time.

"I do not care, Simone. I don't have to be the only one to suffer. Someone has to suffer with me. And if it's Mathilda Brewer, for the sake of her sister and family, then so be it." Cahill holds my gaze after making this statement. He too knows I am eavesdropping, and it seems like he said those words more to me than his Beta.

I hurriedly make my way into the chambers and slam the door shut behind me.

I can't believe someone can be so cruel. Of course, I know he's hurting, but he doesn't have to speak like that, knowing fully well that I was listening.

I am beginning to see the reasons why my sister ran away, even though what she did was horrible.

Alpha Cahill might truly be a monster. I do not know much about him, and it might be that he doesn't possess the qualities of Genova's requirements in a man, even though he's a very good looking powerful Alpha.

I let out a big puff of breath as I rest my back behind the closed door.

My chamber is beautiful, the last thing I expect it to be.

The maidservants have the curtains pulled up, making the orange evening sun reflect on the jaw-dropping glass walls.

In the middle stands a king-sized bed with a burnt orange royal velvet duvet, with a big patch of knitted flowers. Fluffy snow-white pillows with a smaller one in the middle that has the same design as the duvet.

There's a small library with stacks of books, a fireplace with a golden couch that I need no one to tell me it's worth thousands of dollars.

The second maidservant pushes the balcony door open, and I don't fail to see the table, chairs, and telescope before she puts on the transparent carton brown curtains.

My phone immediately starts ringing from my bag that is on top of the bed. And there's this feeling it's Brandon calling because I doubt my mother and brothers will call me. They are already feeling too guilty to call over the phone, after making me do something that I never bargained for. Something that will change my life forever.

Slipping the phone out of my bag, my heart jumps in my chest when I see that it's truly Brandon.

Christ, he must've heard.

And now he's calling to figure out if it's really true, or he's been hearing false rumors

Biting down on my bottom lip that I can feel it's bruised, I hold the phone over my chest as I close my eyes tightly.

I wonder how he feels now? If he feels betrayed, hates me now. Or has tears welled up in his eyes from hurt?

Knowing him, he must've been smashing things by now, because of his hot temper.

With my heart in my throat, I tap the red button on the screen to hang up, then let out a big puff of breath.

"Should I help you out of the dress, my Luna?" The second maidservant asks.

I give her a firm nod and she comes to stand at my back.

I let out another big puff of breath then slump on the bed after having the wedding dress off.

Brandon has been calling non-stop and sending a series of text messages, but I don't pick up the call, nor do I read the messages. My heart is already too sick to do so.

And the migraine is earth-shattering, it feels as though someone is continually hitting my forehead with a baseball bat.

"Should we bring you something to eat, Luna? You must be tired," the first maid who has been watching me cautiously.

"No, just painkillers and some water," I reply, then turn away to face my side on the bed. Because I do not want to see her searching eyes.

"As you wish, my Luna," with that, I hear the sound of the door opening and closing shut.
