The floor glowed as red, green, and yellow laser beams emitted from the spinning lights on the ceiling. The nightclub was packed with some men who were jumping, screaming, shouting happily as their eyes focused on the woman dancing on the stage. The floor pulsed beneath my feet, and the heat emanating from the mass was inescapable.

James and I got into our seats at a table in the rear, and he called for a waitress and ordered drinks—a martini for him and a bottle of beer for me. As soon as the sexy waitress turned away from us after getting our orders, James directed his eyes on the stage, and began to wolf whistle. ‘‘We arrived just on time! The most exciting part has just started!’’ he said, his voice a little too loud because of the screams and shouts coming from the people in the noisy and bright place.

Two girls suddenly approached us, and James quickly pulled the one with smoky dark eyes and blonde hair, and made her sit on his lap.
