Dolly woke up with a gasp and looked around her. She met her mum still sleeping beside her and tried to remember what happened.
She grew furious when she remembered. Dave had drugged her. She checked the time and saw that she had been out for almost twenty minutes.
She sprang to her feet and searched for her phone. Picking it, she scrolled through her contact. On the first ring, the person picked up.
"Yes boss!" The womanly but thuggish voice called out.
"Track this phone call right now and come pick up my mum. and with a car" She commanded.
"On it."
There was silence for about thirty seconds.
"Got it. On my way boss." There was some shuffling at the background, and then feet moving.
"Good." Dolly hung up. She kissed her mum on the forehead before walking out of the building.
She had just called Adape, one of her gang members. She just couldn't leave her mum without assurance that she'll be okay.
She knows that within minutes, Adape will be here to pick her mum. She's very fast in running her errands and that's why Dolly called her.
Reaching for her phone, she ordered for a Uber ride. In five minutes, the ride came. As she was entering the car, she saw Adape getting down from her car, jugging into the building.
"No 5, Stanford street." She mentioned Evan's address to the driver who barely nodded his head.
"Can you go faster please?" She pleaded.
The driver stepped on the gas and went faster. He got there in no time.
She dropped and payed him, giving him an extra amount for his job well done.
"Thank you ma'am." He appreciated and drove off.
Dolly half walked, half jugged to Evan's house. She got there and entered the house. She doesn't knock on their door nor ring the bell.
Charlie was munching on his cereal which he was having for brunch when he saw Dolly.
"Hey Dolly. Wassup!" He called to her.
"You need to leave here right now. Your lives are at risk." She stopped to catch her breath.
"Where's Evan?" She asked.
"He's sleeping upstairs. What's wrong?" Charlie was panicking already.
"I'll explain to you in the car." Dolly was already climbing the stairs, two at a time.
"But Louis is wrong." She dropped the bombshell.
Charlie quickly searched for his car key and ran to the garage, starting the car, he waited for Dolly's arrival.
Dolly ran to Evan's room and opened it. True to Charlie's words, she met him sleeping.
Tapping him, she called out.
"Wake up Evan!" She screamed into his ears.
Evan who is a light sleeper jumped up, rubbing his eyes as he looked around.
"Dolly." He called her.
He noticed the worried look on her face.
"What's wrong?"
"We have to leave right now. I'll explain everything in the car." She dragged him up.
Evan stood up and walked out while Dolly stayed behind, writing on a stick note she found on the freezer before sticking it on the freezer.
Dolly went to the driver's side.
"Get out Charlie. I'll drive." She hurried her words.
Charlie came down and went to the passenger's side then opened the door and sat down.
Dolly stepped on the gas and drove off with speed like her life depended on it, or maybe it did.
"Where are we going to?" Evan asked, his voice shook a little. He was that scared. He had never seen Dolly this fierce and was wondering if this was really Dolly.
"My safehouse." She swirled the car to the left and continued with her speed.
"What's happening?" Charlie asked Dolly.
He was panicking internally but had to be calm and collected for his brother's sake.
"I know you know about Louis threatening you with Evan to take over Ann's company." She started while Charlie nodded in affirmation, Evan feeling lost.
"Since you escaped him," she continued, "he's been planning on kidnapping Evan." She stated. "And today is the day it's to happen."
"Dad had been threatening you with me?" Evan uttered with shock.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"I didn't deem it fit to tell you." Charlie said.
"I'm sorry. I was just trying to protect you."
"When was that?"
"What?"
"When did he threaten you?" Evan enquired.
"He threatens him all the time." Dolly answered for him.
"No. It started one day." He faced Charlie. "When did it start."
"That day I came home drunk." Charlie muttered.
Evan nodded, wearing a pained look on his face.
He understands that Charlie was trying to protect him but he isn't a kid anymore. He's old enough to know what is right and what is not.
"How did you know about the kidnapping?" He threw at Dolly.
Dolly looked at him from the rearview mirror.
"About four weeks ago." She answered.
"And you didn't say a thing about it!? Evan exclaimed.
"We're always together almost everyday and you couldn't say a think about it?!"
"I'm sorry. But you should understand that I couldn't say a word about it. I didn't want you to make any suspicious move so as not to ruin the plan." She tried to explain.
"You know what.... Never mind." Evan rested his back on the car seat, looking out of the window.
He's like the only one who doesn't know anything. They all treat him like he's a kid. Nobody seems to care about what he thinks or what he wants to do.
"Evan. Evan!" Dolly shouted at Evan who was lost in thoughts.
Evan was startled and went blank until he recovered himself.
He saw that they had arrived at the safehouse. It was looking deserted but he knew for sure, someone was inside.
He got down from the car, ignoring Dolly's outstretched hand and waited for her to take the first step. He followed her as she walked in.
Dolly was greeted by her members as she, together with Evan and Charlie as they walked in.
"Welcome boss." They welcomed her.
She rarely comes to the safehouse except it's very urgent. It's a home for her members and she prefers leaving them to their privacy.
"Thank you." She greeted back.
"This is Evan and Charlie." She said, pointing to them. "And they'll be staying here for a while so treat them well." She concluded.
"You can leave." She dismissed them.
She turned to face them.
"Let me show you to your room."
The two brothers looked like they won't step an inch if she doesn't explain what they needed to know.
"What are you?" Evan asked.
She halted a bit, looking directly at Evan.
"What are you?" Evan asked again, staring at her intensely.
