[WARNING: Mature Content 18+] "My soul craved yours from the very beginning of time." ____ Theodore Blackwell was the very reincarnation of the Devil yet Eva fell straight into his arms, not knowing that the Devil doesn't come to you with a red face and horns. He arrived in her life as everything she had ever desired... [Excerpt] Instead, a tall man stood there looking like the very reincarnation of the devil himself and Eva felt uneasy as she felt the dark aura around him markedly. He was handsome looking, no, handsome was not enough to describe his appearance. It was hard to describe him as handsome when she had seen no one as attractive as him in her whole life. His hand was in the pocket of his slacks as he walked forward in her direction. When she noticed him coming close to her, Eva took a few steps back until her back met the hard wall behind her. He didn't stop approaching her and Eva held her breath when he entered her breathing space. She was a head shorter than him so he leaned down until their faces were in front of each other. His hand was placed on the wall, right beside her as Eva stared straight into his obsidian black eyes which were darker and deeper than normal human beings. Was this a staring competition, thought Eva as she tried not to blink under his intimidating gaze. By any chance, did he not have the ability to speak? Finally, he opened his mouth to speak. In a smooth tone, he spoke, "You're staring in my eyes." _______ Handsome looks: Triple Check! Evil family relative: Check! Misunderstandings: Check! Power building: Double Check! A/N: This story has a slow-pace beginning and quite a lot of it consists of healing since trauma and panic attacks are discussed in detail. Her eyes darted around in anxiety as she took incredibly slow steps towards the altar. She was trying to delay it as much as possible even though she knew he wasn't going to arrive now.
Her easy fell on Alastor's right hand that he was offering her to take. Tears glazed her eyes as she placed her hand in his and stepped up the platform. Her head was lowered, and anybody who saw it might think that the bride was just shy. It was only Eva who knew how hard she was trying not to break down there and then.
She blinked her eyes rapidly and dug her nails inside her gown as deep as she could. If she ran out of here now, the wedding would certainly be shifted to another day, giving her time to think about another way of escape.
A small part of her still hoped that the door might burst open and Theodore might be standing there, looking at her with the same look that made her knees go weak. She missed him, no matter how hard she tried to reject the idea and drive it out of her mind.
She noticed the officiant open his mouth and start speaking,
"Dearly beloved and honored guests:
We are gathered together here to join Alastor Huxley and Evangeline Blythe in the union of marriage. This contract is not to be entered into lightly, but thoughtfully and seriously, and with a deep realization of its obligations and responsibilities..." the priest's voice trailed off as her hands once again started shaking, and she entangled them together so that nobody would notice.
What if she fainted right now? Would it help in delaying the ceremony, Eva asked herself and received a 'most probably.' It was worth hitting her head on the hard ground at least.
She glanced at Alastor who was grinning from ear to ear as he stared at her. He was cheerful on his wedding day while she was wishing for the ground to swallow her up already. He was happy while she was depressed for many reasons that she had now etched into her mind. The first was this forced marriage arrangement, for which she was trying to think of ways of escaping.
It wasn't working. Her sanity had abandoned her, leaving her heart worriedly punching her chest again and again. Eva felt as if she might get a heart attack anytime soon if this continued any longer.
'Help me, help me, help me,' she begged someone, anyone. Begged Alastor, standing in front of her, his emerald eyes fixed on her. Begged the priest, face serene and patient within that hood. 'Save me—please, save me. Get me out. End this.'
"And now," the officiant's voice entered her ears louder than ever as Eva realized it was time.
"Lord Alastor, do you take Evangeline to be your wife? Do you promise to love, honor, cherish, and protect her, forsaking all others, and holding only unto her forevermore?"
Eva watched as he gazed straight into her eyes and parted his lips to utter two words that sent a shudder down her whole body.
"I do."
The priest now turned towards her, and Eva clenched her jaw to keep from screaming out loud.
"And Evangeline, do you take Lord Alastor to be your husband? Do you promise to love, honor, cherish, and protect him, forsaking all others, and holding only unto him forevermore?"
Alastor watched her expectantly, and Eva's eyes darted around to find the Queen and Diana sitting side by side, glaring at her through their eyes.
Her eyes returned to Alastor who was now starting to look a little worried. He took one of her shaking hands in his and inclined his head towards the priest, secretly telling her to say, 'I do.'
"I... "
"I-I..."
She swallowed, readying herself to make a run for it when a woman from a table gasped out audibly, making every face turn toward where she was pointing at.
Eva froze and her eyes moistened, but this time she didn't stop or wipe the tear that fell from her lash and onto her cheek.
Thunder cracked above her as if two boulders had been hurled against each other.
People screamed, falling back, a few vanishing outright as darkness erupted.
Eva whirled, and through the night drifting away like smoke on a wind, she found him standing there, straightening the lapels of his black jacket.
"Hello, Birdie." he purred, and Alastor grabbed her arm, stopping her from going to him.
Eva shouldn't have been surprised. Not when Theodore liked to make a spectacle of everything. Not when she knew that he liked to make grand appearances at the very last second.
But there he was.
Theodore, High Lord and King of Xandria, now stood in front of her, darkness leaking from him like ink in water.
He angled his head, his blue-black hair shifting with the movement. Those violet eyes sparkled in the golden firelight as they fixed on Alastor, as he held up a hand to where Isabella and Diana and their sentries had their swords half-drawn, sizing up how to get her out of the way, how to bring them down—
But at the lift of that hand, they froze.
Alastor seemed to be resisting whatever power Theo was using on him, since the very next second Theodore lazily flicked a finger and sent Alastor flying back to a wall and Eva watched as it crumbled down with the force of power the man, now beside her, had.
Eva felt as if breathing was suddenly easier now. She could now notice everything; how the guests were all fleeing or some were watching the scene with entertainment. She stared at his violet eyes, which were now no longer black as they had been in the castle. She wondered at the abrupt change and decided to keep the questions for a later time.
Right now, she needed to get out of here immediately.
"What a pretty little wedding," Theodore said, stuffing his hands into his pockets as those many swords remained in their sheaths. The remaining crowd was pressing back, some climbing over seats to get away.
"Get the hell out," Isabella growled, stalking towards Eva.
He completely ignored her command and instead commented, "I had expected Asher to pull a stunt like this. Never had I expected you to make such a stupid move, Isabella." he clicked his tongue in distaste. "Did you really think I wouldn't realize she was here when I came to visit?"
