Surprises aren't for everyone

"My name is Matthew." Matthew had declared and watched the child droopy eyes and sluggish movements.

"My name is Emma." The dual hair colored child had said before allowing herself to fall asleep in the stranger's or rather the newly named called stranger Matthew's arms, leaving the adult awake and startled as he heard the sound of growls from the thick forest.

'It's not safe, I need to reach the camp before the wolves come out to hunt.' Matthew had secured Emma into her hands and had to travel carefully to not harm the child.

Emma was feeling the pressure of the water from the shower on her entire body, as she felt the water cleanse her body from the disgusting bacteria on her body as she couldn't bathe the previous night. It was relaxing to the point; her hands became pale from the time spent in the shower.

She opened the glass separating the bathtub, sink and the shower altogether, she was wrapped in a towel and was brushing her teeth with her maroon colored, spitting the foam out of her mouth as she used her cup to take water to rinse her mouth before spitting out in the sink, satisfied with the action, she washed her toothbrush and kept it in a glass case above the sink, used in keeping toiletries.

Emma rushed out of her room as she didn't have enough time to pack her hair and just left it loose, to reach the dining room on time and was met with the disapproving look from her mother. Beth was seated on the dining table in the hall, noticing Emma's appearance and snickered at her form. Emma's hair was flying around, dropping water on the floor, her clothes weren't even arranged properly.

She was wearing a velvet shirt and cream jeans but wasn't properly tucked in and arranged carelessly as the edges of her jeans and the collar of the shirt were drenched in water, the socks she wore, where not matching, making her curse herself internally as the watched Beth laugh with the younger children as they passed her.

"Good luck, Emma." The little girls passed her, waving at her and laughing furiously as they felt no need to hide it, as it could be seen clearly on their faces. Emma thought it wasn't her fault for coming for breakfast late but decided to not explain herself as she was met with a penetrating gaze from her mother, requiring an explanation from her.

"Good morning, Mother." Emma tried to appease her mother with a kind tone, but she wasn't going to budge unless she received an answer.

"The same to you.", Emma stared at the woman, who seemed to have an expression clearly saying 'explain yourself before I allow Beth to take you to school and bring you back with no complaint', she found it scary that she could decipher all of that from just one look.

"The reason why I took my time to come for breakfast is-" Emma knew she was stalling but that didn't mean that she wasn't going to her, all she needed was for Beth to leave before she could ask a question. But life was never and ever been fair to anyone and even if it was, it was just for a short period of time and the person was met with what humanity calls karma.

Oh, beautiful karma, What a bitch it was, then again it should have been called the cycle of counterattacks, as Emma had once called it as a child, if you do something to someone it will be returned back to you by the same person or a different person, either way a person would be gifted with something, they gifted to someone.

"Mom, I have a question." the annoying entity called Beth had decided to play, she could die in a pit somewhere and she wouldn't care, after all Emma was a tsundere and would never admit loving her blood sister not even if the world came crushing down, she had too much pride to say it. Either way, she groaned forgetting about the fact, she was still mother's main focus.

"Go ahead, I am listening.", Mother had decided to give up on asking Emma any question for the moment and rather focused on the other female in front of her. Beth was ready to prove her sister wrong and knew this was a way of making her admit she was wrong in something on her life from her idol aka their caretaker also known as their mother.

"Can an asexual person be attracted to another person?"

"Meaning?" Mother needed a clear explanation before answering her question and glanced towards Emma, who was sitting on a nearby table eating freshly scrambled eggs and drinking creamy chocolate milk, while ignoring Beth's eyes dancing all over her form like a hawk watching its prey.

"Like if an asexual person can be romantically interested in another person?" she said it loud enough for Emma to hear and Mother noticed the rise of her voice but decided to play along with her and pretend that she didn't notice Emma's eyes darken from Beth's question.

"Yes, as long as they aren't aromantic."

Emma dramatically fell to the ground and muttered words neither Beth nor Mother could decipher but Beth had figured out that she was just mouthing out cursed words. The girl on the floor was picked up by a larger person with a well-defined build, just from looking at the shadow.

Emma turned her neck to the side with interest only for it to fall into a look of indifference and met by a bone crushing hug as the person wept in pain, slobbering sweat, and mucus all over her. Beth didn't even look at her direction after that and immediately left the hall, achieving what she wanted, leaving her younger sister alone with the stranger that invaded her privacy.

"Can you please stop slobbering on me like a dog?" She didn't falter as she stared at the half naked man, who started to cry even more and didn't seem to have listened to her and hugged her even tighter than before. Her skin was evidently turning blue before she couldn't handle the pressure exerted on her body any longer.

She forcefully pushed herself away from his chest away but ended up falling down to the table in front of her and hit her forehead on it, which started to bleed furiously before she was rendered unconscious and was carried by the said stranger but not before hearing a word that belonged to no one present in her life.

"Emma, please be fine."
