Observation

I guess this counts as repaying what I owe them.

Right?

I thought to myself as I was staring outside the window. Loud repetitive sounds soon assault my ears as moving metal carriages dash towards the flames far from this place.

Let's find out what those are later.

For now I have to deal with this splitting headache.

I sat back down on the bed while clutching my aching forehead.

Apparently, manipulating things with my 'Soul Control Technique' takes a large toll on this weak new body. Right now I felt as if I was about to throw up.

How troublesome.

I only tried to ignite the air at three different places since I found that those men had explosive and flammable materials on their person. How I knew this was because I have also seen those materials in the past. They were only useful for little tricks and fire shows for the mortals.

To Immortals, those explosions wouldn't even burn the hem of their clothes.

But this time, it proved to be a lethal weapon. I never imagined such tiny amounts of it concentrated in a small roundish oval object to be so deadly when ignited.

My original plan was just to use my technique to burn the air and make the materials explode beside them. That should have made them bedridden for a few months.

Though, this also works out well for me too.

Mortals who dare direct their killing intent towards me or the people around me may as well be courting death already. I only sent them on their way, that is all.

Finally finishing my internal struggle, I open my eyes wide to see that the beautiful woman was still calm even when experiencing those explosions happen. I saw her slowly pull out a strange mechanical device from her bag and place it near her ear.

"Hello? It's me. Yes, I'm fine. Clean up the mess on those buildings before the media gets here."

Yeah, I still can't understand what she's saying.

But I think that thing that she took out was some kind of communication device.

Almost like the 'Connection Crystal' in the past.

"Onee-sama! Are you okay?!"

As I was getting more curious about the device, the little girl with blue eyes from before rushes into the room, with another person following close behind her.

Hmm?

What is this feeling?

It seems familiar.

"It seems that you're alright, granddaughter."

A deep, aged voice filled with stability resounds throughout the room.

Ah.

It's coming from him, this nostalgic aura.

Looking closer, I observed the person behind the little girl.

It was a man, an old man.

The first thing you notice about him was his posture, it was surprisingly upright for an old man. He had a steady gait, and his movements are calm as flowing water. His body radiated confidence.

The outward appearance is secondary in my eyes, but his facial features were surprising. It wasn't filled with wrinkles like a normal aged person. Although the signs of age did not disappear as he had long, gray hair tied into a ponytail that flowed along his back. But that was it.

Contrary to his age, he had dense muscles brimming with energy. Using my acute senses I discovered that his blood, vital organs, and bones were as healthy as a young teenager.

But this wasn't what caught my attention.

What I was concentrating on were the old man's eyes.

Yes, those deep black eyes filled with wisdom like the stars in the sky, likened to a still lake unperturbed by the mundane world. They looked as if it belonged to a monarch of an entire generation, filled with pride and that familiar trait buried deep within.

Blood lust.

Looking deep into those eyes, one would find themselves lost in the pure disregard for human life, seas of blood and mountains of corpses envisioned within it. A dense killing intent poured out like a torrential storm once the old man looked towards the window.

I'm impressed.

It's rare for a mortal to develop killing intent that dense during their short lifespans.

This man must have been a strong warrior when he was younger, stepping over his enemies bones and walking through rains of blood in the battlefield. An exceptional one at that.

Otherwise, it would be impossible to develop himself to this level at his age.

"Yes I'm alright. Hana, stop making that face. You don't want the yokai to see you cry right?"

"*Sniffle* I wasn't crying! Hmph, stupid onee-sama!"

The little girl exclaimed something in a loud voice and proceeded to punch the woman many times. They had no strength in them hence, the woman just giggled all the while.

"The aftermath, I assume you took care of it?"

But as soon as she heard the old man's words, her face immediately turned serious.

"Of course grandfather, I already called our men to destroy any evidence."

Nodding deeply, the old man released a sigh.

"These attempts are happening more frequently now. Someone must be targeting the company again. Make sure to find those traitors who gave out our location and tie up any loose ends."

"Understood. It shall be done immediately."

Meanwhile, the little girl who seemed to have understood that this was a serious situation, gave up her punching routine and ran towards the old man.

"Grandpa, onee-sama's bullying me again!"

"There there, I'm sure she did not mean anything by it."

As if it was magic, the stern face of calmness the old man exhibited turned into an amiable and doting relative, as he proceeded to pat the little girl's head to calm her down.

Judging by this interaction, and how their faces seem similar, they must be related to each other. Besides the distracting blue eyes the little girl possessed, they all looked to be mortals part of what they call, a family. At least, that's what I inferred from my observations thus far.

Mortals, I never could understand their relationships.

Although I was a mortal myself, but that was a long time ago.

I don't even remember what it's like to have a family.

"I hear that the yokai is awake?"

A blurry memory was about to resurface in my mind when I was suddenly interrupted by a voice.

Snapping out of my stupor, I saw that all three of them were staring at me.

Now then, I guess it's about time to find out about this strange world.

I kind of guessed it already, but now that I saw all these unfamiliar things added with the fact that I still could not sense even a trace of Spiritual Energy until now, I had confirmed it.

This isn't the Immortal Realm.
