Can't a father go out with his family again without something ruining it? I would have been happy if it had been just traffic causing the issue, but no, it had to be something much more outrageous – the apocalypse. Imagine what was supposed to be a family outing turning into a fight for survival against zombies in an instant. It doesn't change much, though. I'm still trying to be the best husband and father I can be, and the apocalypse ain't changing that!
If being chased by an overpowered mutated bird hunting for its breakfast wasn't already bad enough, the fact that the noice that was being created in a zombie-infested world didn't help matters.
The turn Malachi had taken just happened to be one that had a few zombies on it. The noise they made woke these zombies up from their motionless state as they immediately started charging in Malachi's direction.
It did not matter if they were slow or not. Malachi was the one driving towards them, so they only had to intercept his path.
Of course, none of the zombies had the required intelligence to think like this. It was just a predictable outcome based on the situation and the way it played itself.
The way the situation played itself, though, was going to have Malachi crash with the zombies. He was already driving at almost top speed, and avoiding other road obstacles already made for a bumpy ride.
