Chapter 12: Beelzebub's tank, Gloria Cottonfluff (1)
David didn't even think twice before using his new skill to enslave the soul of the black dog.
He had received so many boons after this one clash that Beelzebub wanted to find more demons to discover whether he would be able to pick up more skills or grasp new evolution paths.
Alas, that was when things went against his wish.
[Your level is insufficient to entirely enslave the Anubis Spawn.]
[You have enslaved a part of the Anubis Spawn's soul, Anador.]
[The rest of Anador's soul has been forcefully put into slumber.]
[You can store the imperfect enslaved soul within your heart.]
[You have killed a low-birth demon, Anador Lv. 25]
[You have leveled up…]
[You have leveled up…]
[You have…]
[You have…]
The black dog's body became a stinging mess that should soon gather the attention of guards, bringing them to Beelzebub's side, so David paid no heed to that crap and instead hovered his eyes on the transparent soul, which was different from a human's souls by color.
Humans' souls were white, while the colors of demons varied, depending on their bloodline.
Anador's soul, which was still in the dog's form, was grayish.
Familiar with that concept, Beelzebub flicked his fingers and turned the shocked demon into a streak of gray energy, which flew to his heart. Now that the demon was gone, Beelzebub quickly deserted the horrifying scene.
Two corpses were in the dark alley, after all.
And as the demons were no longer here, the odor of death wafted to the main street, frightening villagers to the bone. People closest to the dark alley left their booths and stores, treasuring their lives more than their wealth… the rest of the street was in similar chaos as fear for their lives ushered a commotion that the Williard Village hadn't seen in years.
No friendship or relationship seemingly mattered in front of death, and all ran for their lives, bumping and pushing aside everyone regardless of their age and gender.
Only the authorities could possibly calm down the scene, which they did.
Donning the best equipment the village head could afford, the guards flooded the scene to appease the situation, knocking some sense into the frightened humans. A few of them entered the dark alley and instantly twisted their faces as one of their fellow villagers lay dead there.
And then, the disgusting and charred by impressive force demon took entire of their attention to himself.
The guards exchanged uncomfortable looks, then whispered at each other…
"Internal strife in the demon's circle?"
"Possibly… maybe they were too hungry and couldn't reach a consensus… Look, there's only one human corpse."
"They always devour hearts! Cruel bastards!"
"And now, the population will suspect something… and we must deal with more than demon's quirks. Those damn demons really must have started fighting against each other, have they? Damn it…"
"The village head will forbid any trips to the chasm, right?"
"I think so… at the very least, he will stop precious forces from going there."

Beelzebub returned safely to the house.
It seemed like everyone was asleep, so he quietly closed the door and went to his room. Here, David took off his shirt and looked at his bruised back, which was more than just red… it was as though a truck had hit him!
"I hate sleeping on my stomach." Beelzebub sighed before carefully placing himself on the straw bed.
He closed his eyes and thought of what had happened in the dark alley.
The might of the player's bloodline, known as the heavenly bloodline, became clear to him. It upgraded his legendary skill… rather, it brought out what Beelzebub of a higher level would have had. Such a delicious concept was nothing short of amazing, allowing players to reach great heights in another world.
In other words, people with such a bloodline would grind levels endlessly… until hitting a certain bottleneck.
Recalling Bruno's words, the heavenly bloodline guys possessed wings, which should be a feature available for all players after hitting some level threshold.
Beelzebub never had wings — even in the past, he didn't have a way to fly on his own — so he inferred that a lot of stuff must have changed since the game became real.
'I am probably the first person to mingle between the game and the real world… but why did I have to wake up a thousand later? My wish… what was it? How come I can't tell?' Beelzebub assumed that the game world had always been real and that he was the first player to touch the reality of it.
After his disappearance, players continued playing the game like usual, with more of them gradually learning the truth.
David wondered if people had a choice to leave the game and continue their lives on Earth… or were they also forced to participate in this grand scheme? What was the game's real purpose, even?
Beelzebub fell asleep after realizing that his desire, which pushed him thousand years later, was a matter he surely would unveil first, which made him forget about Revfantasy Online's purpose.

David woke up to the loud footsteps ringing in the house.
It seemed like everyone was already up and ready to start a new day. The lady of the house was busy preparing breakfast for her husband and son, keeping in mind that she had to prepare one more bowl for a gentleman sleeping in the guest room.
In the meantime, loud shouts punctured her steps.
Aric and Bruno had a short argument for whatever reason.
Beelzebub ignored that, but he heard something about the chasm, though.
"Come out, the prisoner of the chasm." Beelzebub flicked his fingers and forced the dweller of the chasm to take a form before him.
Anador appeared like a ghost in front of his master: his form was that of the familiar black dog. He was much bigger than average adult dogs, so him being a soul was a convenient matter for Beelzebub… but since he was an enslaved soul of a low level, he wasn't like a ghost that could escape the eyes of normal people.
Beelzebub, whose mind was fresh after not-so-uncomfortable sleep, peered into the soul's hollow eyes.
He knew that he could read this man's memories now that he had enslaved him.
It was one of the perks of being a demonic alchemist and now Beelzebub.
But what Beelzebub saw shocked him to the core.
His hand flinched as the golden lightning tickled him there.
[You have found a clue to your maid's whereabouts - Gloria Cottonfluff.]
[You have received a new quest - Gloria's choice(Legendary)]
Beelzebub party's tank, the toughest woman out of all his maids, was inside the chasm.
