Chapter 12

As we wait in line, Jess gets antsy. Before anything could happen, Molly speaks loudly, "Looky here, it seems like a half-ling!"

Jess lets out a growl while moving closer, quickly putting my arm out to stop her as she continues to glare at her. This isn't what we needed, Tj and Zane to take the rest of the stuff out of my hands. Rushing to get Jess in my arms and out of the store before she loses all control over her vampire side; her hair changes from lilac with baby blue bangs to pitch black with red bangs and her eyes go from blue ombre to ruby red. Shit! This isn't good at all!

"You need to calm down.", I whisper.

"Don't tell me what to do!", they snapped back.

Great, now I have a pissed-off vampire who doesn't like anyone; if things get even worse, I don't know what I'll have to do. Can't hold her down knowing that will only piss her vampire side more; think Raina. If you were a creature and someone talked terribly about someone you love, how would you like to be calm? I would probably enjoy going somewhere quiet so as not to trigger my creature then…. That's it! Glancing around, but could not know which direction a park would be in since we didn't pass any on the way here. I see a family, so quickly jogging towards them. Once I'm close enough to them, I ask.

"Do you know where a park is?"

The entire family just looks at me, confused; great they speak Russian, repeating the same question again, hoping that they will understand it. "Знаете ли вы, где находится парк?" Something clicked because their eyes held their understanding when they looked at my arms. "Go straight ahead for three blocks, then take a left. The park should be there.", the mom said.

"Спасибо."

Rushing to where they said the park would be when I noticed a few people staring at us; quickly glaring at them, which did the trick because they rushed to look away. Making it to the park, I find an uninhabited place for her to calm down; a bench that is hidden by the trees; place her down then squat down so I'm eye level with her.

"I'm okay, and you're okay.", I tell her.

Her eyes stay… but her hair changes back to normal, which is a good sign; smiling at her to let her know she's doing great without angering her vampire more. Putting her small hands in mine, before kissing them; she mumbles out, "You're not a half-ling."

Giving her a soft smile before talking, "I may not be half-ling to you but to others, they like that."

"That's not fair!", she barks out, as her eyes change.

"I know it's not fair, but guess what, I don't care what they think.", I tell her just as her eyes go back to normal.

"What is a half-ling doing with a vampire angel?", someone asks from behind us.

Whipping my head around, I see one professor behind us. Looking her up and down to see if she may be a threat to Jess as I use my body to block her eyes from my daughter. Holding back glare and keeping a hand on Jess so she does nothing over the top.

"My mama isn't a half-ling!", Jess growls out.

The professor just stares at her as she loses her mind, which didn't sit well with me because the next thing I know is I'm holding their throat while baring my teeth at them. Once I realized what I was doing, I quickly let go of her throat and backed away from her; I didn't mean to do that. Balling my fists up so I don't do something like that again as I bite my tongue.

"She isn't your mama, dear.", she tells her.

"Yes, she is.", Jess states proudly.

"Sweetie, she's a half-ling and you're a vampire angel.", she tells her.

"I know what I am!", Jess snaps back.

"Then you should know that she is not your mama!", the professor snaps while pointing to me.

"Leave!", Jess yells.

"No! Not until you realize that, that half-ling ain't your mama!", the professor yells back.

"I SAID LEAVE!"

Jess's eyes go back to being ruby red and her hair goes back to being pitch black with red bangs. Great, couldn't she have just left her alone? Turning my back to the professor, I work on her calm down once again when suddenly, Jess tries to launch at the professor; sensing an attack coming, I hold Jess arm length away and something comes out my back. Watching Jess's eyes as they go wide before a smile comes on her lips.

"You have pretty wings!", she says happily.

Not wanting to show her my confusion, I say, "Thanks." Glancing out the side of my eye, I see the professor wasn't there anymore. The feeling in my back goes away and Jess looks to be her normal self as well. Knowing that she's calm, we head back to our friends, but we take our time.

"Mama, how come you never told me about your wings?", she asks.

"What did my wings look like?", I ask, trying to play it cool.

"You have three sets of wings, and they're all black too.", she states.

"Is that so.", I answered.

"Yup!"

Interesting, I never had wings before- then again, I didn't really have anyone that I was taking care of so that could be it? Looks like I'm going to have a decent amount of work cut out. We reached the store to see our friends chilling on the wall by the store's entrance. Jess waves her hand and they come walking over; they all give her a quick hug and we head towards a different store. As we continue to look for the next store, Tj starts a conversation.

"What took so long?"

"Didn't know where a park was so I had to ask, then after we were there, a professor came and made her mad which made us go back to square one again.", I answered.

"Okay, but what happened to your shirt?", he asks.

"What do you mean?", I asked, slightly confused.

"There are six holes in your shirt.", he exclaims.
