The last day before departure

"Well when do you think Hiroki is going to come back?"

Could it be-

"Well he only just went into the forest to go hunt 2 days ago, he shouldn't come back before tomorrow."

A few men, who have been getting quite drunk already openly talked about the one thing I worried about the most.

"Well do you think he'll have a successful hunt this time?"

"I mean if he doesn't we're just not gonna be able to eat meat for a few days, which isn't actually that bad."

Of the few things I had heard since I began helping out this was definitely the most interesting to me.

It's reassuring to hear about it now, but I guess this is just one more reason to go and leave this village tomorrow as early as possible.

I had already helped out for a few hours and after noon almost everybody went back to their houses or fields to go work, so it wasn't really that bothersome to stay for a bit longer.

But now I was feeling more and more as if I wasn't needed anymore, even more people left and I already did enough for today and I also shouldn't waist too much time like this.

"Mister, can I go upstairs? I am a bit tired and there are only a few people left."

"Oh, sure Yori, you were a great help today. You can just come back down, when you rested and are hungry."

I went upstairs and lied down on the bed. After a few minutes I went back up and started to train for a bit.

"I should probably rest a bit more, before leaving the village tomorrow, but I can't just waste my time doing nothing."

I did 25 push ups and then rested for a half a minute and did that four times until I was at 100. In between I would try to control my breathing and then I would meditate for a few minutes, while trying to recover my strength.

"Let's see if it's possible."

I was trying to do what seems to be possible in basically every fantasy novel. I closed my eyes controlled my breathing and tried to find something in my body. I concentrated on finding mana, ki, or whatever name the special energy in this world, which should be flowing through my body. I searched for my meridians or just over all something, which felt different, magical.

But I couldn't find anything.

"I guess it couldn't be this easy."

I wasn't able to find anything, I mean I don't even know what I'm supposed to exactly be doing. After all everyone in worlds with magic just seems to understand how to cultivate from when they were born.

Well there are a few possibilities for my inability of feeling my life force.

1. I could actually just not be able to use magic or acquire the ability to use magic, because I came from another world and wasn't born here.

2. Humans could be unable to use magic in this world, that would be the worst possible explanation. If these are what's blocking me from using magic it would be extremely bad for me.

I am sure that you can use magic in this world, after all I searched for this world, with magic as basically the main point and I also saw a dragon and normally dragons should be able to breath fire, which is also only possible through magic.

Heck dragons are often portrayed as magical beings, so it wouldn't be logical at all for there to be no magic in this world.

"Well I guess I just have to hope that it's the third explanation."

3. Maybe it's just something unique or really hard to achieve for humans. That could explain why I saw nobody in this village use magic and that would also be the best explanation for me. If that's right I guess I just have to ask around and train myself, somehow searching for an opportunity to actually find a way to learn magic.

That's just one more thing I have to take care of, when I reach the next big city and it's also just another reason to leave this place as fast as possible.

I can't prolong this any longer at all, it would probably just hinder my capabilities.

"Let's head down, after all I still have to ask a lot of things."

After training for half an hour more I went back down and judging from the light getting darker and darker it should be dawn already.

I headed down and currently only a few people were still there. Most of the people should currently be eating dinner with their family.

"Hey, Mister. After resting I feel a lot better now."

"Oh Yori, that's good to hear I was actually thinking about eating something now too, let's sit down somewhere, okay?"

"Yeah, sure."

He seemed pretty content. I have to say, living like this really has something unique to it.

We sat down at a table and began eating. After a few minutes of talking casually about the customers and other stuff to pass the time I began to ask the real questions, things I really want to know.

"Mister, I am thinking of leaving this village tomorrow as soon as possible, so I wanted to ask a few things today."

He put down his fork and knife and although he seemed understanding he couldn't really hide his sadness.

"Well I knew that you wanted to leave quickly, but do you really need to leave tomorrow?"

"Yeah... I made this decision and after thinking about it for a long time, I am sure that I want to pursue the path of a warrior."

"Oh are you really sure about this, it's not like I want to sto-"

"Mister... I made this decision and I know that currently I am extremely weak and could easily die. But I need to get stronger. I want to avenge my family and find these beasts that destroyed my village and kill all of them."

I'm feeling a bit bad about lying to Daisuke again, but this is the best way to get him to tell me about the things I want to know and leave tomorrow without making it too complicated.

"Well okay then."

He looked down onto the table and crossed his arms before his body.

"Well you have to first know that the next big city is not that far away, It's name is Raiken and it's actually only about 5 days away if you are walking normally."

"You just have to go into the direction, where you came from and then you should be able to leave the forest after about 3 days and in the next 2 days you should be able to reach Raiken."

So it seems like it's true what the man at the other shop told me today.

"The only possible problem would be the beasts that live in the forest. You've probably heard the people talking about Hiroki. He is the only hunter and he actually came into this village from outside a few years ago. I guess he was a hunter or something like that before he came here, but he could slay the beasts in the forest with his bow and sword skills."

"But even he could die if he really were to encounter one of the really dangerous beasts, which are said to live deep in the forest."

"Well there were actually a few people, who went missing in the forest... never mind that. You just have to be sure that you want to take that risk and if you do you shouldn't ever go deep into the forest and you need to stay on the path, then you shouldn't get lost."

Could he be talking about, his son?
