Chapter 32
“Yeah, I guess, in their own way. Otherwise they wouldn’t have cared, right?”
“So they weren’t bad people, just too wrapped up in their own selves to see what was happening.”
Mack nodded, then said, “Enough of this. We’re here. Come on Dani, and Ghost if you’re coming with us.” He didn’t give the kitten a chance to answer, as it were, taking her off Guy’s shoulder before striding away, with Dani hurrying to catch up.
“I think I hit a sore spot with him, bringing up family.” Guy sighed. “I didn’t mean to.”
“He’ll be all right,” Tone assured him as they got to their usual spot.
For the rest of the afternoon, Guy sketched people, getting paid for some of the drawings and, as usual, giving away the rest. When he wasn’t doing that, he and Tone played with Shadow which entertained people enough they dropped spare change in the can on the bench next to Guy’s sketchpads.
It was close to six when Dani put in an appearance, carrying Ghost in one arm.
