First and second graders still tried every trick in the book to avoid going to school, and some kids' eyes were still red as they sniffled from time to time, shuffling into the school gate under their parents' stern looks.
By contrast, the young people who sped past on their bikes, eager to meet up with the girls they hadn't seen in a long time and had missed dearly, seemed to be in much better spirits.
