Leaving home

We continued our discussion for quite a while but was interrupted by a knock on the door. My mother who sat on a sofa nearest to the door went to see who was knocking and on looking outside immediately shut the door.

"Who is there my father asked as he went to see for himself. On getting there he hatred and bitterness became visible all over him

"don't you think you have done enough?" He asked them with a very loud voice which made me to check out the situation and on getting to the door, I met people who I least expected and didn't want to see.

At the door was the head priest and his assistant. Pleading to be allowed to have a Word with me.

"Please let them come in." I requested. They were finally allowed to come in and sit down.

Before I could say a word the head priest fell on his face and began to sincerely apologize for sending an assassin after me assuring me that he has now realized how wrong he was.

Without giving it much thought I accepted his apology.

"If that is all that brings you here then you can gladly go back knowing that I have forgiven you."

"Can we see you privately for a while." The assistant head priest asked.

"Sure" I replied as I led them outside. When we got outside the head priest spoke up.

"When you left Raven went into the darkcave to revive the gargoyle but died without getting the task accomplished and since then no one has volunteered till date. Now demons are taking over the world and commiting several genocides all over the world. Those who knows about this our brother all over the world has turned to us but we too are helpless. Please come with us since you are the best person for the mission and summon the gargoyle."

"Santos is going nowhere with you we are safe and happy here and you can go back and perish" My mother who was eavesdropping and everyone in the sitting room came out and protested vehemently against what the head priest had said.

"You anda few chosen others might be safe in this island but think about the plight of zillions of people outside here who constantly live in fear and expect death to come knocking on their door any time what if you are in their shoes. Remember things have been like this and has been getting worse since you left about a month ago."

"Last month?" l asked in shock "Yes you have been unconscious for several weeks now" my father explained.

"I will let Santos go nowhere with you" my mother told them.

I fell into deep thoughts what if I was really in the shoes of the millions of people who have lost those that they cherish. "How would I have felt?" I thought. I am no better than them but I could save them from further harm. Though I cherished what I shared with my family few moments ago lI felt pity for every person who was not selected to go into the safe place.

"I will go with them." l anounced

"What!" my siblings screamed in utter disbelief.

"You are going no where Santos" my mother insisted.

"I'm going with them" I declared.

"Santos if the gargoyle is revived he will send me back to hell alongside demons. Please don't do that to me." My father pleaded

"A thousand mile which is trekked for humanity's betterment is worth it even if it leads towards the heat of a blast furnace.

This you told me dad during the few sober moments of yours and I totally agree with you. I will go with them" I persisted.

"They began to plead with me to stay behind but my mind was already made up.

"I'm sorry but I have to go" I announced having made up my mind.
