Chapter 61: Training and a discovery

It had been several months since I started my apprenticeship with Scáthach in the land of shadows.

If I talk about this place then I would say that this land was made for the undead. And if not for my divinity and Scáthach's protective magecraft, I won't even survive in this deadland that is hell for a fairy.

In that span of time, I learned two skills, the first is runic magecraft and the other is developing my very own spear arts.

First, let us talk about spear arts. In terms of the way of the spear, I gotta say Scáthach IS just best. Her skills with the spear were top tier but the way she teaches was also good. No wonder many Celtic warriors sought her apprenticeship.

She not only pinpointed my flaws and improved them but also helped me develop my own style of arts since I have to levitate Chastiefol for using its overall abilities.

Now I could use the spear in the air more effectively than before. Not just spear but I was now holding a better grip in handling its other forms. I could shop a giant with Increase in few seconds or destroy 20 meters big boulder with Guardian. In short, I became more proficient with my main weapon.

If I talk about rune magecraft, then I could say that it is the most difficult yet efficient magic system that I have encountered.

If you compare magic that Merlin and Vivian taught me to runic magecraft that Scáthach knows then it is similar to compare commerce bachelor's degree to chartered accountancy. One is simple yet versatile while the other is hard to process but has the highest profit.

The main difference that cast other magic from rune aside is its chanting time.

Since each rune carries the intention that you have to process within a second to cast a simple buff while ordinary magecraft requires a long chant and image of magic circles.

Runes can also be used as enchantment like making runic crests or weapons.

Runes also come with tiers in respect of colors. Ordinary runes for simple buffs are colored blue or green while primordial runes are in purple.

Primordial runes are what you call the highest tier of runes that she can cast. These runes were said to be 'created' from Norse God Odin, a god from the Scandinavian Peninsula.

I heard that Odin discovered them rather than create them from the original Ymir so there was a contradiction between what Scáthach and I know.

About Scáthach, I gotta say that she was very different from Vivian and Merlin in terms of teaching. She is strict as hell and won't give me any time to relax if she wants me to push my limits.

Fighting? She has such a huge warlust that you want to run away from her. Not a single day we spent go without having a duel. She just loves testing her spear skills with me since I adapt quicker according to the situation.

I wondered how that red-eyed blue-haired boy with terrible luck even got her attention. Cu Chulainn was just 16 when she accepted him and taught him his spear skills that we know from the series. Wonder how she will react if I told her that even in three different timelines, her disciple always ends up losing terribly.

She also told me her history but she forgot most of it. What I remember was that she once went to war with her sister where Cu Chulainn helped her and defeated her but her beloved disciple end up marrying her sister and she became a divine spirit unable to die. As expected from a character of Type-Moon with a tragic past.

"Oi disciple, where are next volumes Jojo's Bizarre Adventures?" It was Scáthach who was asking.

Did I tell you that she also nags about manga and other stories?

"I don't have! Here read this. It is a good story." I gave her the volume of Your Name.

She didn't ask anything and simply took the book.

I was in the living room and was practicing making runes when she came with manga and start reading on the same sofa with her foot touching my thighs.

I wanted to practice my magic but now that her well-shaped ass enhanced with bright blue jeans, was beside me, my focus was reverted to calming my little brother. I don't know if she was doing this intentionally or not since I still couldn't read her monotone face.

I started to like her but I was not sure of my feelings whether they were real feelings of the opposite sex or simply a way to run away to face Artoria again.

I know that she liked her former disciple as opposite sex so I was not sure how her feelings work.

'Gosh, I want to nestle my face between her thighs.' I gritted my teeth and then calmed down. I shouldn't involve with love affairs for now. Besides, the life I was looking to spend as a human was not possible for the current Scáthach.

"Shishou, are you a virgin?" I asked while trying to practice runes.

"It depends."

"What do you mean?"

"Hmm, I think I didn't tell you how I learned Primordial Runes right?"

"Yeah."

"Well, in the past I encountered Odin in his last days. He offered me death by combining my body with a Norse Goddess named Skadi as a counterfeit against Ragnarok. I agreed without considering even for a sec but she didn't survive and I end up coming here again after she died with most of Skadi's skills and her knowledge."

So that's how she learned runes. I remembered Skadi from Norse Mythology. She was a goddess and used to be the wife of many gods so I got the meaning behind 'Depends'.

"Shishou, I think you are hiding something for me?" I asked coldly since even if Primordial Runes are effective, it is not what I was looking for.

"Hmm? Why do you think so? I told you that you can leave since I already taught everything I know."

Indeed, with my learning power, I could learn anything in mere minutes that requires weeks or even months.

"Do you really want me to leave?"

"…Not before you write every book that you know and every food dishes you can make."

I sighed and shook my head. I wondered if she is the first tsundere with such a monotone face.

I crawled and put my face under hers where she was reading the book and used my trump card, charm with puppy eyes!

"Jiiiii."

"…"

"Jiiiiiiiii-"

"Fine."

"Yes!"

She then asked me to follow somewhere. We came to a hidden room of her fortress. After lighting touches, she led me to a pedestal. On in was a book lying.

"Einar, this is the book I took from Odin's castle when Surtur was destroying Asgard. In this book hidden some forbidden scriptures that even Odin hid from others. These are called Divine Runes or God Runes, original runes discovered by Odin and his father.

However, as the name suggests, these runes can only be performed by Original Gods like Ymir or Tiamat. Any ordinary person would be burned alive with a simple glimpse.

Even you could suffer terribly with your divinity."

She explained. I was awed by this discovery. That was what I was looking for.

[Einar, this is divine magic but be careful.]

Elaine also warned me.

I assured Scáthach that I will be careful but my instincts were warning me.

No risk no gain.

So I opened the book and witnessed complex runes.

However, when I used my intent to read the first rune, I felt a little headache.

"Einar! Are you okay?" Scáthach came held my arm in worry.

I smiled and nodded. I didn't stop and used my remaining mental power to read the first scripture. In the end, I was exhausted and felt pain all over my body.

"You alive, disciple?"

"Yeah…"

I smiled and closed my eyes. I opened it again and started to write the same rune with a wand in the air. Solver bright rune started to materialize. Plants and grass also began to grow on walls and floors.

"No way…" Scáthach was also shocked.

After I wrote the whole rune, the room was changed into a lively green mini forest.

"See… Told you that I will be fine…" I smiled but then my legs gave up but Scáthach grabbed me and placed my face between her jugs.

"Silly disciple really worried me for a second." She said with a smile but I didn't see her face as I was busy enjoying the booby pillow.

"I love Shishou so I can't disgrace my Shishou…"

"Fufu, you are one honest child but an honorable and brave one. Don't die on me for now. You have the battle to fight."

"Yes… A big battle…"

I narrowed my eyes when I finally saw the glimpse of what I will be facing but now I am more than positive to withstand whatever comes in my way.

We stayed in each other's embrace before returning with the book of forbidden scriptures called divine runes.

I will save each of my loved ones.
