Stone in the shoe

When you were a kid, you lived with your grandmother in the small town of Silvertree, on the edge of a magical forest. Grandma is a witch, and she taught you how to use your magic to affect the natural world, too. “Magic is a part of you,” she always told you. “Learning how to use it means figuring out who you are.” Now you’re 19 and on your own. After years of living in the forest while you perfected your witchcraft, you’ve returned to take care of your grandmother’s house and crow-familiar while she’s gone. Figuring out who you are feels more important than ever - not to mention, figuring out what Silvertree is. A lot is just as you remembered: the friendly generous next-door neighbors with a kid just your age, the proud town council, the quaint little shops with quirky punny names, the gentle shadowy forest full of magic.

Marlowe's face breaks into a radiant smile.

"Awesome! No pressure, obviously, but if you're definitely sure, just meet me outside Skippy's around seven tomorrow. It should be a good show—I'll see you there, hopefully!"

After that, they give you a wave and head off back into town—leaving you alone on the corner by the old store, with its strange, lonely tree hidden just behind the wood in the windows.

As you walk a little further through town, you realize that by now it's well into the afternoon—and you've got the whole night ahead of you with nothing to do.

Thankfully, there are a few ways you could spend the evening, including getting an early night—but really, this is too good an opportunity to waste doing nothing at all. After a few days spent around people, this is the perfect chance to reconnect with yourself.

What do you want to do?

You feel a great sense of relief as you finally make it home. You've been spending so much time out and about over the past few days that you haven't really had the chance to settle in at home. You may have unpacked a little, but that's not the same as getting to know your new environment. You need a chance to really relax and feel truly at peace for a while.

And more than anything, you feel like you need to feed your magical side.

After getting yourself and Arctus something to eat, you pour a cup of tea and carry it and a large throw pillow out into the yard with Arctus riding on your shoulder.

Together, you walk through the high grass and stop to look around for the best place to sit.
