“Thanks for the heart attack.” Jill crouched down beside him. Rain caught in the hood of today’s hoodie, and made her hair frizz. “You just wanted to scare us one more time, was that it?”
“Oh, no, I wouldn’t do that to you.” Colby threw her a mischievous friend-grin. “Nothing scares you, in any case.”
“Your face was awesome,” Brian said from behind the camera. “Just letting you know.”
“Thank you for that.”
“Colby,” Jason got out. His heart hadn’t quite figured out normal rhythm yet. Water dripped along his right eyebrow.
“I’m fine.” Colby turned the smile on him. Even sitting in mud, that expression folded up the world into cozy castle-spire comfort. “I wasn’t expecting slippery steps. Which is my own fault, of course. Well, I did need to change, in any case, for the next scene…”
