Chapter 195

"Clap, clap."

"Hoo… Done."

Lucas clapped his hands, looked at the clean and tidy bedroom, and stretched lazily. He was on Earth now, getting ready to sell some ginseng.

There were still a few preparations to be made, and it was time to leave the city and find a more secure place to settle.

Today was the day he was moving out. Lucas had already chosen his new residence; he just needed to finalize the purchase with the money.

"It's time to go, even though I haven't stayed here long."

Lucas took one last look around, making sure he hadn't left any traces. He slung his prepared backpack over his shoulder and headed out.

"Bang."

The door closed behind him. Lucas wanted to get everything done today; if he stayed away too long, Mina and Annie might start to worry.

He had used a nap as an excuse to slip into the room, and with only four or five hours left before dinner, he needed to hurry back.

Lucas handed the keys to the landlord, exchanged a few polite words, and left. Wearing a hat and mask, he hailed a cab and headed straight to the largest pharmacy in the city.

Half an hour later, Lucas arrived at his destination and paid the fare.

"Phoenix Medicine Herbs."

Lucas looked at the old-fashioned pharmacy in front of him. This was a private herbal medicine shop, a traditional Chinese medicine clinic rather than a place that just sold pills.

'Phoenix Medicine Herbs' specialized in traditional Chinese herbs. Lucas had heard that the clinic was a family business with a lineage of practitioners, spanning three generations: grandfather, father, and grandson.

He also knew that people from other cities came here seeking treatment, and many wealthy individuals hired the clinic's practitioners for home visits. The pharmacy was quite renowned.

This was one of the reasons Lucas chose to sell his ginseng to 'Phoenix Medicine Herbs'—a well-known pharmacy meant less chance of being deceived and, more importantly, it meant they had money.

"There's quite a crowd." Lucas noted, seeing that the line stretched out the door.

Of course, Lucas didn't plan to wait in line; he wasn't here to seek treatment but to sell medicine.

Ignoring the curious and somewhat hostile glances from the crowd, he walked through the doors of 'Phoenix Medicine Herbs'. As soon as he stepped inside, he was greeted by the gentle scent of herbs—pleasant but not overpowering.

The interior of the pharmacy resembled those old-fashioned apothecaries from the 90s, exuding a sense of age and tradition. Lucas was pleased; the ambiance matched the long-standing reputation of the clinic.

"Sir, are you here for a consultation? If so, please join the queue." A deep, resonant voice greeted him.

Zhang Ji looked at the young man in front of him. As soon as he entered, the young man began to look around, but his demeanor surprised Zhang Ji.

Lucas turned around and saw a man in his forties, dressed in a modernized version of a traditional Chinese jacket, giving off an air of refinement. He had a small patch of beard on his chin.

"Are you Dr. Zhang Ji?" Lucas asked softly.

"Yes, I am. And you are?" Zhang Ji noted that the young man didn't seem to be here for a medical consultation—his complexion indicated he wasn't ill.

"My name is Lucas. I heard that Dr. Zhang accepts wild ginseng?" Lucas got straight to the point.

"Uh…" Zhang Ji was momentarily taken aback, his eyes flashing with a hint of suspicion. He nodded and said, "We don't usually accept ordinary wild ginseng here."

"Well, if I'm here, it means my wild ginseng is exceptional. Dr. Zhang, would you like to verify it?" Lucas's lips curved into a confident smile. "I'm sure it won't take too much of your time."

"Hmm… Alright, follow me." Zhang Ji agreed, intrigued by the young man's confidence. Such assurance was rare.

Lucas followed Zhang Ji to the inner hall. After they sat down, Lucas didn't say much. He pulled out a box from his backpack and placed it in front of Zhang Ji.

"Dr. Zhang, please proceed with the evaluation." Lucas said calmly. Before leaving, he had checked some information, and if the price was reasonable, he intended to sell it.

"Hmm." Zhang Ji opened the box and was momentarily stunned, staring at the ginseng inside with a look of disbelief. "Is this ginseng freshly dug up?"

"Yes. I'm an outdoor survival enthusiast, and I happened to find this ginseng during one of my trips." Lucas replied, maintaining a straight face as he spun a tall tale.

"Wait a moment." Zhang Ji said urgently, standing up and quickly heading towards the back room. "I need to consult my father. I don't have much experience in identifying freshly dug wild ginseng."

In truth, Zhang Ji was unsure about how to accurately assess the value of such a large piece of ginseng. From his previous experience, he estimated that this ginseng was at least 150 years old, based on its appearance alone.

"You're so reckless. At nearly fifty years old, you should be more cautious." An elderly voice from the back room, scolding Zhang Ji.

"Dad, come and take a look for yourself." Zhang Ji said as he helped an old man out.

"Dr. Zhang, thank you for coming." Lucas said respectfully as he stood up.

"What a charming young man, with such a refined demeanor. You're quite remarkable," Dr. Zhang said, his admiration evident. At over seventy years old, he had rarely seen a young person with such an impressive presence.

Zhang Ji looked at Lucas with surprise. It was the first time he had heard his father praise a stranger so highly, especially someone so young.

"…" Lucas found it difficult to respond to such high praise, so he simply smiled politely.

"Let me have a look." Dr. Zhang said, taking a seat and examining the ginseng with a magnifying glass.

He studied the ginseng meticulously, inspecting its size, shape, and other characteristics with great care. After a thorough evaluation, he looked up at Lucas with a serious expression.

"This is indeed an extraordinary specimen of wild ginseng. Freshly dug, and in superb condition," Dr. Zhang said, nodding appreciatively. "Its age and quality are remarkable. You've brought us a rare treasure."

"I'm glad you think so," Lucas said, relieved that his ginseng was being well-received. "What's your offer?"

Dr. Zhang examined the ginseng for a while, his expression becoming increasingly serious. The casual demeanor he initially had was gone. He muttered to himself, "The root is short and thick, with iron wire patterns, and a jujube-like knot…"

"Hoo… hoo…"

After some time, Dr. Zhang began to breathe heavily. Zhang Ji, looking anxious, stepped forward to help him, pressing his chest and urging, "Dad, take it easy, deep breaths…"

In this era, finding wild ginseng that's over a hundred years old was extremely rare. To encounter one now was indeed thrilling.

"Alright, I'm fine."

After a while, Dr. Zhang waved his hand, signaling that he was okay. He turned to Lucas with a serious look and said, "This is indeed wild ginseng. The time since it was dug up should be less than ten days, and its age is around two hundred years."

Zhang Ji weighed the ginseng and reported, "The fresh weight is 352 grams."

"Hmm." Dr. Zhang nodded and turned to Lucas with a serious tone. "If you want to sell it, based on the price from the last auction, this wild ginseng would be worth approximately one and a half million."

Lucas did a quick mental calculation and compared it with the information he had gathered. The price seemed reasonable and fair.

"Alright, one and a half million it is."

Lucas nodded with a smile, but then his tone shifted, "However, I have another ginseng here that I'd like you to appraise."

"What?"

"Dad, take a deep breath…" Zhang Ji said, his concern evident.
