Gu Wanzhou was truly a marvel of nature. Her slender frame somehow supported such an astonishing figure, making her a masterpiece in every sense of the word.
A perfect 36D—though if she were like Rao Shiyun with her more substantial D+, walking might truly become a chore.
"Don't worry anymore, Auntie Gu," Li Zhiyan reassured, his voice calm but filled with determination. "I told you, we're destined for each other. If you're in danger, I'll always show up in time."
The two embraced, and it wasn't until Gu Wanzhou noticed the undeniable changes in Li Zhiyan that she pulled away, her face flushed crimson.
This child… though she often saw him as just that—a child—he was anything but. After all, he had kissed her last time, hadn't he?
"You know," she murmured, trying to compose herself, "it does seem like we're quite fated."
Normally, Gu Wanzhou didn't believe in fate. It was too abstract, too far-fetched. But tonight, she found herself wavering.
How else could she explain it? After a random decision to unwind at the park, here was Li Zhiyan, appearing at just the right moment to save her. He couldn't possibly have known her whereabouts, and yet, this wasn't the first time something like this had happened.
From the restaurant to tonight, the series of coincidences could only be described as something preordained.
If this wasn't fate, then what was?
"I've told you, Auntie Gu," Li Zhiyan said with a faint smile, "you're destined to be my girlfriend. We're meant to be together."
His earnestness tugged at her heartstrings. For a moment, Gu Wanzhou didn't know how to respond. The bond between them had deepened, almost without her noticing. And now, after saving her, severing ties with him was no longer an option.
If only he'd agree to be her godson, she thought wistfully. That would solve all their problems. But as things stood, she truly didn't know how to proceed.
"Zhiyan," she said, changing the subject, "how are you so good at fighting? That thug was massive, at least six feet tall and built like a tank. How did you manage to overpower him? Have you trained in martial arts before?"
"I haven't, Auntie Gu," he said, shaking his head. "I didn't think about it at the time. I just wanted to protect you. And when he insulted my mom… I couldn't let that slide."
Her heart ached at his words. Children from single-parent households often carried a fierce loyalty toward their loved ones. The image of him shielding her earlier resurfaced in her mind—it was a moment she'd never forget.
"You're such a wonderful son," she said softly. "Your mother is truly blessed to have you. If only I had a son like you…"
They continued walking, and though Gu Wanzhou's words carried a hint of maternal affection, she was still trying to nudge him toward accepting the idea of becoming her godson. If she could bring him under her wing as a son, all their current predicaments would vanish.
"I know what you're thinking, Auntie Gu," Li Zhiyan said, interrupting her train of thought. "You're still hoping I'll agree to be your godson, aren't you?"
Stopping at a small convenience store, he pulled out a few coins and bought two bottles of Sprite. After opening one, he handed it to her.
"But Auntie," he continued, "you don't need to fixate on this idea. If I became your godson, it'd mean giving up any chance we have of being together. You'd be locking away an entire future possibility."
"Do you remember what I said to you before?"
Her heart skipped a beat as she recalled his words. They had been spoken with such conviction, almost like lines out of a movie. Once again, she found herself marveling at his eloquence and wit. He was so talented for someone his age.
Yet, his words stirred something deeper within her. If she and Li Zhiyan were to lose the possibility of being together and became like mother and son instead… would she regret it?
She didn't know why, but a faint sense of unease crept into her heart. Somehow, that scenario didn't sit right with her.
Her mind drifted back to the time he had massaged her legs. The memory brought a faint blush to her cheeks. His touch had been magical, almost hypnotic.
"Zhiyan," she said, steering the conversation elsewhere, "you really hurt that thug earlier. Are you sure there won't be any consequences?"
"Don't worry, Auntie Gu," he reassured her. "There weren't any cameras around, so there's no evidence. Besides, he started it when he tried to harass you. I was just standing up for you."
"And the park isn't exactly near your house," he added. "As long as you avoid going there alone at night, there won't be any issues."
She nodded, relieved.
As they walked on, Li Zhiyan suddenly reached out and held her hand. The unexpected gesture sent a jolt through her, and she instinctively stiffened.
Holding hands… wasn't this something only couples did?
Yet, for some reason, she couldn't find the strength to pull away.
"Zhiyan, this isn't appropriate," she said weakly. "Men and women should maintain proper boundaries."
"Auntie Gu," he said with a playful smile, "didn't you say you see me as just a child? There's no one around. Can't a child hold hands with an elder? Or… have you started seeing me as a man you could date?"
Her hand twitched, as if she wanted to pull away, but his words stopped her. If he was just a child in her eyes, then holding hands wasn't a big deal. Right?
Still, her mind betrayed her. She couldn't stop thinking about how he had touched her legs during the massage or how he had stolen a kiss. The memories made her heart race.
"Zhiyan," she murmured.
Holding her soft, delicate hand, Li Zhiyan felt a surge of satisfaction. Progress at last. At the very least, he could now hold her hand when no one else was around.
This was the first step toward bridging the gap between them.
"Auntie Gu," he said earnestly, "please give me a chance to date you. I really do like you. If you agree, I promise to treat you with all my heart."
His sincerity struck a chord in her. She wanted to reject him outright, but recent events replayed in her mind. His unwavering dedication, his bravery—it was all too much.
This boy was special. She couldn't bring herself to crush his spirit.
"Alright…" she said finally, her voice barely above a whisper. "I'll seriously consider it. I'll think about dating you."
"But," she added quickly, "don't get your hopes up too high. After all, I'm old enough to be your mother—and your classmate's mother at that."
She comforted herself with the thought that she was only considering it, nothing more. Surely, she wouldn't actually agree. Right?
