In an instant, Ethan noticed Amelia's suspicion and ill intentions toward him. Instinctively, Amelia activated her powers. A star-shaped portal suddenly appeared behind her.
"Come on now! You're here already, why are you in such a rush to leave?"
Before Amelia could react, her vision darkened, and she fainted. A small vine had silently wrapped around her ankle.
Looking at the unconscious Amelia, Ethan extended his mischievous hand.
"Ding~ Congratulations, Host! You have successfully contained Containment Object-mc-669: Amelia!"
"Ding~ Congratulations, Host! You have acquired the ability to travel across the multiverse (traveling to new universes will be random, but you can return to those you've visited or know the coordinates of with precision)."
"Ding~ Congratulations, Host! You have gained 100 favor points from Amelia (Maximum: 100!)."
"Well, this is quite the unexpected gift!"
Sitting comfortably at home, Ethan couldn't help but feel pleased with his sudden acquisition of such a powerful escape ability.
After placing Amelia into his containment space, Ethan called Natasha.
"Take care of her. Once she wakes up, calm her down. This girl suddenly appeared in my room, so I suspect she might have some ulterior motives," Ethan said righteously, completely devoid of any guilt for his earlier actions.
Once Ethan left, Natasha gently shook Amelia awake.
"How are you feeling? Any better?" Natasha asked with concern as Amelia blinked her eyes, confused by her surroundings.
"Didn't I faint? Where's that jerk?" Amelia asked, looking around in confusion.
"He handed you over to me and left. What? Do you have a problem with him?" Natasha inquired calmly.
Amelia gritted her teeth and said, "No, it's just that he knocked me out for no reason, and I hold grudges."
Natasha couldn't help but smirk. That certainly sounded like something Ethan would do.
Not long after, Ethan, now dressed in formal attire, walked back into the room. He looked at the revived Amelia and teased her, "So, are you still planning to run? What's the rush? I'm not some bad guy, you know."
Amelia shot him an angry glance, turned her head, and snorted without responding.
"So, what's going on? When I first saw you, you looked quite the mess. Were you being chased?" Ethan prodded her, clearly trying to provoke a reaction.
Finally, Amelia couldn't hold it in anymore. She burst into tears, as though she needed to release all the grievances she had endured over the past few days.
"You jerk! You knew what I'd been through, and you're here mocking me!" Amelia cried.
She knew that her appearance in this universe was due to Ethan summoning her during her dimensional travels. She didn't believe for a second that he was unaware of her situation.
In this instance, Ethan was genuinely innocent—he truly had no idea what had happened to her.
Handing her a tissue, Ethan said, "Tell me what happened. Maybe I can help you."
"I've been traveling across the multiverse, searching for my parents. Just a few days ago, I arrived in a bizarre world—a world made entirely of metal."
"You have no idea how terrible that world is. Every planet in that universe has been transformed into metal. No plants, no animals, nothing living."
"The ruler of that universe is a lunatic named Ultron. When he saw me, he chased me down, claiming he wanted to spread the light of the Broken God across the multiverse through me."
"I ran as fast as I could, but the entire universe was his domain. I still got caught," Amelia said, her body trembling as she recalled the ordeal.
"That lunatic dragged me to a lab, saying he wanted to 'bless' me with glorious evolution."
"Isn't that a good thing?" Natasha interrupted, puzzled. "Humans took thousands of years to evolve to our current state. Now someone's offering to help you evolve again. Isn't that great?"
"Great, my ass!" Amelia snapped. "His idea of glorious evolution was turning me into a robot. He kept saying that flesh will decay, and only through mechanical ascension can one achieve eternity."
"If my powers hadn't suddenly activated, teleporting me to this universe, I'd be a machine monster by now."
Amelia finally let out all the frustration and fear she had been harboring for the past few days.
Ethan frowned deeply as he listened. The Broken God… His influence had already spread across the multiverse.
The thought of this vast crisis made Ethan feel a sense of urgency. After all, this could threaten not just one universe but the entire multiverse.
"Ding~ Congratulations, Host! You have triggered the Foundation's Destiny Mission. Do you accept?"
"Ding~ Congratulations, Host! You have triggered the Broken God Cult's Destiny Mission. Do you accept?"
"What the heck? The system has missions now?"
Ethan was taken aback. He had been in this world for almost a month and had never seen the system offer missions before.
"System, explain these two missions," Ethan asked cautiously. His instincts told him these missions might be traps.
Mission Name: Foundation's Destiny Mission – The Saviors of the Foundation
Mission Objective: Stop Ultron, the Mechanical Emperor of the Mechanical Universe, from unleashing a mechanical apocalypse.
Mission Reward: A random technology or item from the Foundation's inventory.
Mission Name: Broken God Cult's Destiny Mission – The Mechanical Frenzy
Mission Objective: Assist Ultron, the Mechanical Emperor of the Mechanical Universe, in transforming at least two universes into mechanical worlds.
Mission Reward: Slight increase in favor from the Broken God.
Ethan fell into deep thought as he read through the missions. Neither seemed particularly enticing, and he wasn't moved by the rewards either.
The Foundation might have some impressive black technology (feel free to share or create original ideas in the comments). But Ethan, knowing how the system worked, also knew that "random" could mean anything from advanced technology to something as simple as a gun-making manual.
As for the Broken God Cult's mission? Ethan had even less interest in that. Helping Ultron conquer two universes? No way! He had finally arrived in this world with a near-invincible system. There was no way he was going to become someone's lackey, not even for the Broken God.
As for the reward? "Slight increase in favor" could mean anything from 100% to a meager 0.001%. The system was clearly playing word games.
"I love saying 'no' to people who think they have it all figured out! I choose to reject both missions!"
Ethan had no interest in the multiverse crisis or the impending mechanical apocalypse. He knew his limitations and preferred to focus on protecting what mattered to him.
Back when he first arrived in this chaotic world, he had no power and simply wanted to survive. Later, as his power grew, his goal expanded to protecting those loyal to him within the Foundation. Now, with even greater power, his ambitions had extended to safeguarding human civilization on this planet.
But as for crises beyond the universe? Sorry, Ethan wasn't interested.
"You're just a little girl traveling across the multiverse, and now Ultron says he remembers you and will catch you eventually? That's laughable! I'm a legend in the multiverse. No mere robot can catch me!" Amelia boasted proudly.
Ethan raised an eyebrow and scrutinized Amelia closely.
"Lift your foot!" Ethan suddenly demanded.
"What do you want, you pervert? I'm not even 18 yet!" Amelia exclaimed, but Ethan noticed a hint of anticipation in her eyes.
"Don't get the wrong idea. I just want to check your shoes for a tracking device," Ethan explained with a roll of his eyes.
"Even if there is one, what does it matter? He can't track me across universes," Amelia shrugged indifferently.
She handed over her shoe, and sure enough, there was a small silver tracking device embedded in the sole.
"Well, would you look at that!" Amelia said, surprised.
Ethan crushed the device and explained, "This is a quantum signal tracker, capable of tracking someone across the multiverse."
Still unfazed, Amelia replied, "Even so, what can he do? He can't follow me here."
But Natasha knew better. Ethan's grim expression said it all.
"Did you just say that Ultron has already taken control of an entire universe?" Ethan asked.
Amelia nodded. "Yes, he calls himself the Mechanical Emperor, the prophet of the Broken God. He's almost completely turned that universe into a mechanical one."
"Well, we're screwed…" Ethan muttered, glancing at the carefree girl beside him.
He didn't blame her for the calamity she had brought upon this universe. In truth, it was his own fault. If he hadn't used that recruitment card, Amelia would never have been transported here.
Fate had a strange way of working.
Realizing that he couldn't just sit back and do nothing, Ethan looked at Amelia seriously. "I'm going to do something now, and you must not resist. This is a matter of life and death for our world."
Before Amelia could protest, Ethan placed his hand on her head and closed his eyes, scanning her for any multiverse markers.
Amelia's multiverse travel ability consisted of two main components: the ability to open dimensional barriers and the capacity to lock onto the coordinates of universes she had visited.
Ethan's goal was to find the coordinates of the universe where Ultron resided.
"Got it!" Ethan's eyes flashed with a blue glow.
"I have some business to attend to now. You both stay here!" he commanded firmly before stepping through a portal to another universe.
Arriving in a cold and metallic world, Ethan gazed up at the massive mechanical planet looming above him.
So, this is Ultron's domain…
The air was filled with the scent of burnt metal and the low hum of machinery.
Ethan cracked his knuckles, determination setting in.
"Let's treat the Mechanical Emperor to some nuclear pizza," Ethan murmured as he prepared to confront the mechanical menace head-on.
