Volume 1 - Chapter 10: First day at Beacon Academy (2)

——————————————————————————————

[Current time: 5:45AM]

An alarm rang through the JSTA dorm. The sound came from Sora's scroll. He woke up from his sleep as turn off his alarm. Sora was in a daze as he rubbed his eyes. He didn't move from his bed while staring at the top bed as he yawned.

His action woke up his teammates next to him. Atalanta woke up in a daze as she also rubbed her eyes. She turned her body toward Sora as she stared at him with resentment. Clearly blaming Sora for waking her up.

He was speechless at her reaction. So he took a few minutes as he tried to coax her to go back to sleep. It was still very early in the morning, so it won't be a problem if Atalanta were to go back to sleep.

It worked as Atalanta slowly fell asleep again. Sora sighed as he dodged a bullet. He didn't want to deal with a grumpy girl this early in the morning. He was glad that Jean or Tifa didn't wake up either from this minor episode.

More over it gave him enough motivation to wake up and leave his bed. Sora went to his plants to check their condition.

...

Well, he didn't know what to expect as he planted it yesterday. Sora watered his plants as he left the bedroom for a quick shower.

He had some things to do before class start, mainly the construction of his Alchemist's Crafting Bench.

Well, no need to think about it now. Sora will do it later, after a shower and a breakfast.

——————————————————————————————

Sora was inside the bedroom as none of the girls woke up yet. It was 6:15 now so let's hope they woke up around 7:30 for the breakfast.

Sora left the dorm as he opened his scroll. He went to the student lounge for a cup of coffee. He wasn't fully awake yet and a little tired.

A cup of coffee would help him a lot. He went through his phone as he opened the school app name "Beacon".

An exclusive app made by the school for the students. The staffs of Beacon can use this app for posting announcement, homework, etc.

This application is also useful for the students. They can find the school map, their schedule, informations, their grades, etc.

This is something Sora could get by. He opened the school map to see facility available for students. He needed a forge for his tools.

He found the school forge and the teacher responsible.

Hephaestus Vulcan is the weapon crafting and upkeep of Beacon. He looked at the schedule available for the school forge.

The forge is available for students during the morning and after school. So at 6:00 am and 18:00 pm. He didn't know how long it would take him to build it. Sora changed his mind.

He will look at this forge right now and make it after school. He won't be pressed by time after school. This is the first day at school, the teachers won't work them hard.

...

At least he hopes so. He arrived at the students' lounge and saw some students inside. Most of them were older than Sora. They saw Sora coming inside as they nodded at him.

Sora naturally nodded back as they went back to their previous conversation/work. Sora went toward the instant coffee machine as he made a cup for himself.

He waited for his coffee as he looked around him. Sora was surprised by the number of students today. He thought the students' lounge would be a ghost town, but he was wrong.

Sora slapped his forehead in realisation. Of course, there would be students coming here. Why would they supply foods inside the fridge?

Good to know. He always thought that most of them would just go to the cafeteria.

Establishing a sort of relationship with those upperclassmen can be interesting. He can gain a lot such as information from their gossip or advice.

After all, as a freshman, they were nothing more but a cub to them. Some of them would definitely come and show off their superiority and seniority to them.

He wanted to know if he could find more interesting people at Beacon. The coffee finished as Sora was in his thoughts. The coffee machine made a sound announcing its services.

Sora woke up from his thoughts as he took the cup. He took a sip and was a little dissatisfied. He expected little from an instant coffee but as he gained the chef skill from the system.

The taste of the coffee made him feel bad. Sora noted in heart to make his own coffee from now on. Sora left the lounge with his below average coffee (his opinion) as he went to the forge.

The cafeteria was almost open, and he wanted to inspect the forge before waking his teammates for breakfast.

The forge is at the opposite of the lounge, so Sora had to walk a little.

——————————————————————————————

Sora arrived in front of the forge door. He saw the "OPEN" sign in front of the door. He also heard a sound coming from the inside. Sora didn't hesitate anymore as he pushed the door as he entered inside.

He saw three people inside the forge. Sora saw a woman with a crimson eye and red hair reaching to the neck. She has a rather sharp face and slender body with an eyepatch over her right eye.

She wears a plain white shirt and black gloves that cover her entire forearms. The woman wears a black pants, a black boots she wears cover the entire her knees and a small brown sheath on her waist.

That beauty is currently hammering a weapon part on the anvil as someone older than Sora was currently waiting on the side as he looked at the anvil.

Sora identified the red-haired beauty instantly. She is Hephaestus Vulcan, the blacksmith of Beacon Academy and the person responsible for the forge here.

Sora didn't want to interrupt her work, so he waited on the side like this older student. He noticed Sora on the side and came toward Sora with a smile. Looks like Sora can't evade this incoming conversation.

'What a drag' thought Sora as he returned the smile. The guy started the conversation by a simple greeting as he started to talk to Sora. Sora knows the name of his senior through this conversation.

He is called Gran Bluelo, a second year at Beacon Academy. Sora also learned that he was the leader of his team. He is pretty chill and upbeat guy.

"Don't worry too much about Beacon. This is a pretty nice school if you put effort into it." said Gran as he patted Sora's shoulder with a grin on his face.

"Ha ha ha..." responded Sora with a stiff smile as he looked uncomfortable at this sudden pat on his shoulder. Gran noticed Sora's reaction as he retracted his arm in a hurry. He scratched his head in regret.

"Ha... Sorry about that, Sora. I was too excited to meet a freshman."

"You know, when I was here at Beacon as a first year, I was very nervous about everything and seeing you a freshman made me think about my experience." laughed Gran as he excused himself again.

"It's okay Gran, I was just surprised by the sudden pat and thank you for you advice." said Sora as his mouth curved a small arc.

"Thank, I didn't want to make you feel uncomfortable." said Gran as he laughed a little. He is a nice person, thought Sora, as they continued to talk. Suddenly, a woman interjected during their talk. It was their teacher, Hephaestus, as she called for Gran.

"Ah, she must have been done with my sword. See you later Sora." said Gran as he left Sora alone not before getting his scroll number. Sora looked at Gran as he took his sword from Hephaestus's hand as he left the forge.

Not before waving goodbye to Sora. Sora waved Gran back as Hephaestus approached him from her seat. Hearing her footsteps, he looked at his new teacher coming to him.

"So, a freshman, uh? What can I do for you?" said Hephaestus as she put her hands on her waist as she waited for Sora's answer.

"Hello professor, I'm Sora Light, a new student at Beacon and i'm here to inspect the forge." said Sora as he looked at her eye. Hephaestus quirked her eyebrow at this unexpected answer.

"Inspecting you say..? Interesting, well? What do you think about my forge brat?" said Hephaestus as she crossed her arms.

"Ah, I didn't mean like that, professor. Sorry if I offended you with my word."

"I wanted to see if it the forge at Beacon was enough to build something for me." said Sora hurriedly. He didn't want to leave a poor impression on a teacher on his first day. Sure enough, Hephaestus was curious about this student.

"Well? what do you want to build?" said Hephaestus impatiently as she tapped her feet. Sora gave her a blueprint that he made in his spare time. She took the blueprint from his hand as she became invested.

This is the first time that she saw something like that in her life. She looked up at Sora as she returned looking at the blueprint. Sora waited for her to finish in his place. He didn't wait long as she ended in 10 minutes.

"Interesting brat, you got me hooked up. I can help you build the base of the Alchemist's Crafting Bench thingy, but for the enchant and alchemy mumbo jumbo is on you." said Hephaestus as she looked back at Sora after her lecture.

"Thank you teacher, don't worry about the last part I got it covered.," said Sora as he smiled at his teacher affirmation.

"Well? do you need the white iron chunks because Beacon can cover it for you but you have to pay it back."

".... No need, teacher I have some." said Sora with a sigh. His teacher simply laughed at Sora's reaction as she guessed the reason for Sora's sudden depression..

"Hahaha, moreover we give a small reduction to our student on materials." said Hesphaetus as her word hit Sora harder. Sora stiffed a smile as he left the blueprint with her and left the forge. He didn't forget to tell her that he would come back after school.

She simply waved to Sora with her laugh, coming outside the forge as Sora walked away faster. As Sora left the building, a woman with brown skin, long black hair, red eyes, and wears an eyepatch over her left eye, similar to Hephaestus.

However, hers covers the opposite eye. She has a well-endowed chest which she keeps in a sarashi and wears a red hakama and sandals.

"Master, I'm back and why are you laughing?" said the well-endowed girl as her teacher's laugh confused her.

"Nothing Tsubaki, I met an interesting freshman while you were gone." said Hesphaetus as she returned to her anvil with her hammer in hand.

Tsubaki simply tilted her head in confusion as she followed her teacher.
