Started with Truth Within

This story is a sequel to my first story, Secret Powers Within and my other story Started With a Mission. In this story however; Kelsey has to leave her home to find where she comes from and who she is, but she also has to fight a new enemy and finds someone she was certain she was never going to see again. Along with a new person she's never even heard of. Who is she? Where is she from? And what is in store for her now? As for Skye, she further goes on a journey of self reflection and is still learning what it means to have others care about her. All while fighting both internal and physical battles, one battle of which requires both at once... what is she truly capable of?

12: Ugh Mom

Kelsey

I watched as my sister got pissed at nothing then walked away, leaving all of us to stand here awkwardly. I told Lily and Luke to go explore and I would go talk to her, but Dylan let them go through and stopped me.

"She's mad at me, I need to be the one to go talk to her and sort it out. You should probably help Drake here with the preparations for tomorrow, make sure everything is going to go smoothly." With that he quietly followed after Skye, pain clear as day on his face. I watched him go, wishing I knew my sister enough to go comfort her or something. My mate gently pulled me away to continue with preparations, understanding my want to help my sister. Everything was ready to go except for the food that needs to be hot at dinner tomorrow, so we sat in a room that was kind of like a living room and waited for at least Dylan to come back. When it started being pretty close to when we're supposed to pick my mom up, Dylan had finally shown up again but with a forced lack of emotion on his face.

Drake and I shared a worried glance with each other and I gently asked, "How'd it go..?"

He kept his neutral face and replied, "As expected.." He then asked for my address so he could make a portal for us. I told him and he entered it in the device thing I guess Skye gave him and made a portal to my house appear in front of us. I felt the need to at least try and cheer him up a bit, probably cause he's my sisters mate and I can tell he's a good friend.

"Hey... I may have only known you guys for less than a day but.... you guys will get through this. I know you will." He tried to smile, I could tell he really tried, but it didn't work that great.

"Thanks... I appreciate the words of comfort but..... I'm not so sure she's gonna forgive me this time..... I'll leave the portal for you guys so you can go through twice before it disappears. I'm going to go lay down for a bit and prepare for the big drama thing.." With that Dylan left.

'Ugh... wish I knew what happened..... I don't like seeing them like this.... it's not right..' I mentally said to my mate who then rubbed my back gently, trying to comfort me.

'if they really, truly are mates despite whatever it is Skye says makes it impossible, they'll come out of this stronger than ever. I think she just has a hard time dealing with it due to all this confusion about you guys and probably from everything that happened to her in her life. Those scars have to be from somewhere..' He answered.

I sighed and frowned at the ground—knowing he has a point about the scars—before looking Drake in the eye and saying, "Well... hopefully this revenge thing makes her go back to normal, or... the normal we've had till now. Let's go fake our asses off." With that I grabbed his hand and went through that portal, landing in front of my door. I opened the door and walked in, smelling for where my mom is. I headed to her room to find her packing up a few things I guess to bring with her.

I growled in my head but put a smile on my face and said in my normal dramatic tone, "Hey mom, your ride to Liakith has arrived!" She turned around when I started, surprise and happiness in her eyes.

"You're back!" she exclaimed, rushing over to hug me. I made sure I didn't show any of my anger, glad that when I seriously don't want to have a fire I have better control over it and am able to keep the flames at bay. I hugged her back how I usually do as she said, "I missed you so much sweetie," she then pulled away and asked, "how was your trip so far? Was Trealle how you expected it to be? Were the king and queen nice?" Holy fuck stop fucking talking, I'm mad enough as it is.

I faked my usual laugh and answered, "Our trip has been really good so far, everyone at Drake's kingdom likes me. Trealle was better than expected and no they were not nice at all, they were super rude. But it's okay, I'll let them have the throne a little longer, till I'm more knowledgeable in being a queen." My mom chuckled then turned and grabbed her bag.

She turned back to us and asked, "Shall we be going? I imagine dinner is quite soon, don't want you guys to be late because of me." Yeah, I'd rather not miss a fancy ass amazing dinner cause of you either.

I smiled and replied, "Yeah, let's go. Wait till you see his castle! It's so cool." Never realized how hard it could be to just be myself and normal, but she's lied to me my whole life so this lying is fricken nothing compared to that. Drake lead the way to the portal for us to get back through, we let my mom go in it first then we quickly jumped through right after in case it decided to disappear right after her which thankfully it didn't. My mom looked amazed about the fact we just went through a self disappearing portal. "Is that portal always there or have you guys figured out how to make them appear?" she asked. I tried incredibly hard to not roll my eyes and answer sarcastically.

I instead smiled and answered, "Actually our new friend Dylan knows how to make them appear, we've known him for about a month or more now. He just moved and started going to our school. I have no clue how he can make portals though." She nodded in understanding then asked where she would be staying for the night.

"Follow me." Drake said politely, I could tell he was as pissed as I am. He lead us to one of the guest rooms and opened the door for my mom. She went in to change into clothes from here, so we told her we'd let her get settled and to just ask anyone where the dining hall is. We went to Drake's room to lay down and run through the plan again, hopefully Skye is still going to go through with it as planned..... really wish I knew what happened... But I doubt she'll tell me any time soon, since we've only known each other like not even ten hours... After running through the plan a bunch we lay in silence for a couple minutes.

"Wonder what Skye's doing... And how both her and Dylan are doing... Ugh why do we have to be such strangers... And why'd I have to tell them about being mates... Their fight is my fault..." I muttered, more upset at every sentence.

Drake snapped his head to look at me and growled protectively, "Hey. It is NOT your fault. All you were doing was making them both aware of what they most likely are. And as for the stranger part well you can blame your damn mother for that, if she even is actually your mother. Okay? Don't blame yourself for crap that isn't your fault." I smiled a little at my mate being so defensive of me dragging on myself.

"Okay... Thank you..."

"For what?"

I smiled bigger and answered, "For making me know it's not my fault. I love you."

He smiled back and replied back, "I love you too." We cuddled for awhile until someone knocked on the door, we opened it to see a servant letting us know dinner is ready. We stopped by my moms room to see if we had to take her down there with us, but she wasn't there so we just headed to the Great Hall. She was apparently already there, chatting away with Kat who looked thankful we finally showed up.

I stood next to my mom and said, "Beat us here I see."

She looked at me and smiled then replied, "I guess so. I was just so excited to see everyone and have dinner with you again after almost a week and a half. Speaking of seeing everyone where's this new friend of yours you were talking about?" I looked around at the huge ass table to see if any of the four new people I've met today were here yet, or at all. I saw Lily walk in with Luke, both looking awkward and a little nervous. I waited for them to look in this direction then waved like a maniac tryna land a plane for the first time.

They saw me almost immediately and walked over, as they did so I said to my mom, "Actually it's more than one new friend. One's from school too but she's been there the whole time and the other is from here."

Just in time the L couple, yup new nickname for them, reached us and greeted, "Hey Kelsey."

I greeted them back and introduced them, "Mom, this is Lily, the girl from school I just mentioned and this is Luke, the guy from here that I also just told you about. Him and Drake are actually fairly good friends, right? Or am I confusing him for someone else?"

Drake smiled and answered, "Nope, this is him. The famous Luke I was forever telling you about. Remember the time we chased Katie and threw her in one of the fountains because we convinced her her hair was on fire?"

Luke looked confused as shit at first till Lily insanely quickly elbowed him and muttered, "Play along." I barely even noticed that happen, my mom somehow didn't notice at all thank god.

He quickly played along and laughed realistically then said, "Oh yeah, that was incredibly amusing. I can't believe she actually believed us."

Kat pretended to be super pissed off about the memory that never happened and grumbled, "It wasn't funny at all. You know how hard and annoying it is tryna dry those stupid ruffle underwear things? No. You don't. Cause you're stupid guys that don't have to wear dresses." She huffed and crossed her arms, earning pretend laughs from us to continue the charade. Finally dinner was being served so we all took our seats and waited for all the food to be placed on the table and wait for the king to start loading his plate. Guess Skye and Dylan aren't eating... wish I could do something.... Guess only time will tell if they make up or not...
